(6)The Harlot's Progress is a series of six paintings (1731, now destroyed) and engravings (1732) by William Hogarth. The series shows the story of a young woman, M. Hackabout, who arrives in London from the country and becomes a prostitute. The series was developed from the third image, after painting a prostitute in her boudoir in a garret on Drury Lane, Hogarth struck upon the idea of creating scenes from her earlier and later life. In the first scene, an old woman praises her beauty and suggests a profitable occupation. A gentleman is shown towards the back of the image. In the second image she is with two lovers: a mistress, in the third she has become a prostitute as well as arrested, in the fourth she is beating hemp in Bridewell Prison. In the fifth scene she is dying from venereal disease, and she is dead at age 23 in the last.zz

ALEXANDRE CALAME (SWISS 1810-1864)THE HASLI, CANTON OF BERNEOil on canvas Signed and inscribed `Genève' (lower right) 78 x 110cm (30½ x 43¼ in.)Provenance:Carl von MetzlerN. Koch, (St. Georges) This outstanding view of the Hasli captures both the distant panorama of alpine peaks and the torrents and tall pines so beloved of Calame. It is a work of his maturity which may be dated to the mid-1840's. A closely related subject is known only from a lithograph. This was painted in 1844 for M. de Gilles, tutor to the heir to the Russian Imperial throne, (see V. Anker, Calame, Sa Vie et Oeuvre, Fribourg, 1987, p. 363, no. 245). The lithographed subject differs from the present painting in the height of the painter's viewpoint, the central tree which has been stripped bare by storms and the general arrangement of the right hand side of the composition. The Hasli is a large and fertile valley in the Bernese Oberland, surrounded by some of the steepest mountains in the Alps, in which the rivers Aar and Reichenbach rise. The leading Swiss landscape painter of the mid-nineteenth century, Calame also travelled extensively outside Switzerland. His most important works depict the drama of his native landscape in all its moods, from violent storms and shattering trees to the idyllic calm of a fine evening as in the present painting. His work is particularly well represented in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Geneva, with a series of enormous landscapes of the region; his drawings and paintings have been widely appreciated outside Switzerland.Condition Report: The canvas has been relined and the paint layer is stable. Some scattered fine lines of retouching across the sky and in the trees, most of these are covering fine surface cracks. WW1 / WW2 Emotive Belgiun Resistance Family Group of Medals Dachau Prisoner. This emotive group records the sacrifice and service of the Joassin family of Herstal Belgium.The medal group of Pierre Joassin a Belgian agent working for the British during WW1 and continued the resistance against the Nazi’s arrested and deported to Dachau concentration camp as a political prisoner in February 1945.Comprising: Liege Medal 1914, War Medal, Victory Medal, Medal of Armed Resistance, War Commemoration Medal, British War Medal, P. JOASSIN. Medals loose. This group is accompanied by original Dachau uniform cloth inverted red triangle with printed “B” indicating a Belgian Political Prisoner. ... White cloth uniform strip with stencilled number 141282 (prisoner number confirmed). ... Lapel badge gilt & enamel blue and white strips with triangle and B with initials CNPPA-NCPGR ... Similar badge red enamel triangle with B and Dachau above. Items believed attributed to Michel Pierre Joassin son of Pierre who also served with the resistance and was arrested and killed in 1943.Medal of Armed Resistance ... 1946 dated letter sent as a reply to an equerry from Pierre as to the circumstances and location of his sons death. The address is given as Herstal.Medal Group believed to be the brother of Pierre Joassin.1914, War Medal, Victory Medal, British War Medal “M. JOASSIN”. Medals loose.The groups are accompanied by a small number of lapel badges, etc including a small bronze none portable award embossed “LUC-MARC 1940 1945”. Both brothers single entitlement of the British War Medal are confirmed and shown as Belgian Agents. Pierre Joassin was born in 1896, presumably living at Herstal which was the home of the Belgium arms factory Fabrique Nationale. The town was over run by the Germans on the 7th August 1914, ten houses were destroyed and 27 civilians killed. Little is at present known to the work Pierre and his brother undertook for the British during the war. Surviving Pierre continued to live in the town and in 1923 his son Michel-Pierre was born. Pierre’s services against the Germans would once again be needed with the declaration of war once more against German, the arms factory would once more be a wanted price by the Nazi’s. Pierre is confirmed as working for the resistance with his son, however on the 23rd March Pierre was arrested and his son was arrested three days later and killed. Imprisoned by the Nazi’s he was eventually deported to Dachau Concentration Camp arriving on the 16th February 1945 categorised as a Political Prisoner, his prison number confirmed as “141282”. Surviving he was liberated and returned home to Rue Large Voie 83 Herstal to start the search for his son. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY

Flight Lieutenant George Frederick Andrews on joining the RAF volunteered for aircrew and trained as a Navigator. His logbook records his first flight on the 30th November 1942. Whilst at 28 OTU he undertook his first operation over enemy territory on the 11th June 1943 a Nickel run to Le Man’s the port engine of the Wellington bomber noted as U/S. In January 1944 he was posted to 295 Squadron although classified as Transport Command the squadron was operational flying the Albemarle twin engineed aircraft. His first mission with 295 was to Le Man’s on the 11 March 1944 6 containers + 2 Packages, the later usually referring to a SOE agent. The squadron undertook Glider towing training and the log reports on the 5/6 June 1944 “Operation Tonga Invasion of continent France 10 Paratroopers 4 containers dropped near Caen at 00.24 No. 4 aircraft”. These would be some of the first Allied troops to land at part of D Day. The log then states for the 6th June “Operation Mallard Horsa tow (7,000 lbs) OX and Bucks 6th Airborne Div Landed at Benouville NE Caen at 20.53 No5 aircraft”. The following moths saw a steady flow of supply and agent dropping and on the 17th September 1944 “Operations Holland Mass Airborne operation on Dutch-German frontier behind enemy lines Horsa tow (Lt Turner + Sgt Hamilton) carrying Portion Airborne HQ landed 10 miles S S W of Nijmegen). This operation is complimented by a number of original photographs showing gliders being towed and also landed on the ground. He would return to the Arnhem area supply drops on the 19th, 20th and 23rd September, each time listing the drop contents and reporting heavy flak. In November he took part in a supply drop to Norway. He ended his tour with the squadron in December 1944 and in February 1945 was posted to 109 OTU and then in June 1945 was seconded as a navigator to BOAC. He was released from the RAF in August 1946 and continued to work as a navigator in the commercial sector. Walter Robert Andrew was a Dockyard Shipwright who enlisted into the Royal Navy in 1915. Remaining with the RN after the end of the Great War, he was pensioned in 1936 and recalled at the outbreak of the second world war. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY
