Haying in the Sacramento Valley, oil on canvas. Born in Lyndon, Vermont, Harvey Young became one of Colorado's leading 19th-century artists, known for his Rocky Mountain landscapes and mining scenes in oil and watercolor. Born in Lyndon, Vermont, Harvey Young became one of Colorado's leading 19th-century artists, known for his Rocky Mountain landscapes and mining scenes in oil and watercolor. Young attended St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont, and in 1859 went to California, via Panama, to prospect for gold and pursue painting. He established a studio in San Francisco where he earned an excellent reputation. After serving in the Civil War, he returned to California in 1866 and established a studio. Between 1869 and 1879, he made six trips to Europe to further his art study, which included classes in Paris at the Academie Julian and private classes with Carolus Duran as well as academic training in Munich. In 1878, his work was exhibited at the Paris Salon. He also retained his ties to the American West. In the early 1870s, he went with his wife and children on the railroad's first cross-continental train trip to California. By 1879, he determined to mine for silver in Colorado, and earning a fortune from mining, he abandoned painting for many years. However, he lost the money during the Panic of 1893, and he returned to painting, focusing especially on scenes along the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. Later Railroad personnel loaned him the use of a private studio car in which he traveled and painted advertising literature for the railroad. For his painting, he had a special formula that combined oil and watercolor, and then he covered the paintings with a varnish that he invented after years of experimentation. His travels also took him often to southern Arizona between 1889 and 1894. There, traveling by burro, he did many sketches including drawings of Tucson in the winter of 1890, although he was much more focused on business matters than his art talents. Young was in Denver in 1893 and was a charter member of the Artists Club formed in December of that year for the purpose of "advancing the Art interests of Denver." The Club consisted of members who were themselves artists, including Emma Richardson Cherry, Charles Partridge Adams, and Charles M. Carter. The organization later made it their mission to purchase art work for a collection to be housed in their art museum, a building that did not materialize until 1922 when the Chappell family gifted the group, now called the Denver Art Association, the family's home. The Chappell House was immediately renamed the Denver Art Museum and has evolved into one of Denver's premier cultural agencies, which is currently housed in distinctive architectural structures designed by Geo Ponti and Daniel Liebeskind. His work is in the collection of the Oakland Museum, the Denver Art Museum, the Copley Library in La Jolla, California, Colorado College in Colorado Springs, and the Colorado Historical Society (untitled 1891 gouache/oil on paper). Because of confusion in his family records, he is sometimes mistakenly listed as Harvey B. Young. Overall size: 21 x 27 in. Sight size: 13 1/2 x 19 1/2 in.
2003 BMW E46 M3 ConvertibleReg. no. M300 AHHChassis no. WBSBR920101EH78404Engine no. 61022931Transmission: SMGMileage: 94,958MOT: August 2023 The BMW M division have been at the pinnacle of motorsport and performance production cars for decades. Certainly, a fantastic motorsport heritage has worked hand in hand with extensive M car sales worldwide. The initial concept of the E46 M3 began in 1997 and production ran for six years from 2000 – 2006.The E46 was the 3rd generation of the M3 line up and it did not disappoint with its fantastic S54B32 NA straight six engine and muscular body panels that set it aside from other E46 models. Among other German and Japanese cars, with which it competed, it stood out from the crowd. With nearly 340bhp and a redline of 8000rpm, the RWD NA car in coupe and convertible form would accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds offering high performance.Despite its performance focus, the interior is a lovely place to be as you would expect from BMW. This particular example has black leather with the door cards and dash having silver accents, which in turn compliment the Titan Silver exterior with black roof. Both interior and exterior remain in very good condition for what is now a 20-year-old car. The car has been a part of a collection for the past six years and has only done 2,000 miles since 2016.Recent work has included a full overhaul of the SMG gearbox which upon inspection required 2nd gear synchro and hub assembly. The front propshaft assembly was also changed, and the SMG system was reprogrammed as well as a new clutch and flywheel package. This work was completed at 93,856miles. The current V5C shows eight previous owners, there are two spare keys, plus a history folder that includes a number of parts and service papers with previous MOT certificates. The M3 registration number is included with the sale of the vehicle.Estimate: £10,000 – 12,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Chang Jiang Motorcycle Combination Model CJ750DReg. no. Not registeredFrame no. 5908323Engine no. NF2P 78 FMV-2 59060391Chang Jiang means long river and was the name given to the Russian built Ural M-72 after China took over production in the 50s. The Chang Jiang 750 is basically a copy of the Ural M-72 equipped with a 4-stroke, 746cc flat twin side valve flat head engine that is built on the same principle as the original BMW boxer engine. These bikes came in three versions the M1 the M1M and the overhead valve M1S. All were shaft driven and the M1M and the M1S had 12-volt electrics and a reverse gear that made it a very maneuverable combination for a solo rider. This combination has come from a deceased estate and has not been used for several years. The engine turns over, using the kickstart but the bike only has one carburetor, so no attempt has been made to start it. New Chang Jiang motorcycles are still available to buy in the UK and the Cossack Owners Club is an excellent friendly club for help and information.Comes with - an illustrated parts catalogue, an instruction manual and keysEstimate: £1,000 – 1,500To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU.
