A RARE ETCHED PARTISAN THIRD QUARTER OF THE 17TH CENTURY, with broad flat tapering central blade, formed with a pair of broad lugs cut with a series of notches at the base, retaining some etching over its surface including foliate rondels within a stylised architectural framework, the inscription 'Fide sed Cuide' on one side and further inscriptions on the other, moulded neck, faceted socket, and a pair of short straps, on a later wooden haft, 84cm; 33in head, This belongs to a group of partisans variously dated 1631 and 1632 and were almost certainly used by a Protestant Army from Saxony. Another, formerly in the collection of Count Dimitri de Nesselrode and William Randolph Hearst is the the Kretzschmar von Kienbusch collection, inv. no. 594. Another was sold in these rooms 26th June 2007, lot 219 (£3600 including premium).
A 28 BORE GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK SPORTING RIFLE, LATE 17TH CENTURY, with octagonal swamped barrel rifled with seven grooves (sights removed), stamped with the brass-lined maker's mark, the letters 'IGS' above a vase, over the breech and engraved with a band of beadwork (the barrel chemically cleaned), the tang numbered '1', flat lock fitted with internal wheel, sliding pan-cover, and flash-guard, the lock-plate finely engraved with an architectural landscape including, in the fore-ground, an ostrich cornered by hounds with a Turkish bowman behind and a mounted Turk with a U-shaped spear ahead, engraved dog decorated with foliage (the upper jaw with one small chip), double set trigger (the forward trigger missing), figured walnut full stock moulded over the fore-end, impressed 'XXXXXII' beneath the lock, the butt inlaid on the left with a large engraved staghorn plaque decorated with a couple riding a monstrous beast, and on the right with patchbox with sliding cover veneered in burrwood and engraved staghorn, the spine of the butt inlaid with further engraved staghorn plaques including the inscription 'Fortunato' and 'XIIII', engraved steel trigger-guard shaped for the fingers, bone butt-plate, engraved staghorn side nail washers, engraved ramrod-pipe, and engraved fore-end cap (ramrod missing, light wear), 85cm; 33 1/2in barrel, Provenance, The Jagdkammer of the Reichsgrafen R. von Kaunitz, part I sold, Galerie Fischer, Luzern, 3 September 1935, lot. 114, illustrated. Edwardian Mantel Clock, brass dial, silvered chapter ring, engraved, "Pearce & Sons Ltd., Leicester", cast and embossed spandrels, secondary slow/fast and chime/silent dials, Continental movement and contained within a carved oak architectural case, with a pitched top, carved frieze, glazed doors, fretwork sides, stepped base and bracket feet, 41cms, (16").
A late 19th Century French mantel clock, the 4.25ins circular porcelain dial with circular Arabic numeral cartouches to the eight day two train movement striking on a gong, contained in black slate and bronze mounted case of architectural design, gilt and leaf scroll panels to pediment, and ivy leaf pattern columns to sides, on bronze block feet, 14.5ins high
An Early 18th Century Miniature Marquetry Coffer of architectural form. The lid above a breakfront facade divided by a band of horizontal moulding into two sections. The upper section inlaid with an arch & faux-brick surround, flanked by Doric columns and subsidiary archways. The lower section having two small breakfront drawers with brass knop handles flanking a recessed centre drawer inlaid with scrolling foliage. Standing on bun feet 14¼ ins (36 cms) high, 23 ins (59 cms ) wide, 13 ins (33 cms ) deep.

M.D. RN, including studies of Naval and Naval Brigade personnel, Naval Vessels, Native Troops, the Camps on the Tugela, a study of ‘Ketshwayo King of the Zulus’, and other related subjects; also various topographical and architectural subjects from the Mediterranean region and elsewhere; in a heavy leather bound album with a dedication in ink “Henry Frederick Norbury from his Loving Wife on his Birthday May 9th 1868”; a card mounted portrait photograph of Sir Henry in dress uniform enclosed. Sir Henry Frederick Norbury (1839-1925) was a prominent Naval Surgeon, who served in the Kaffir War of 1878 and the Zulu War, and held various senior appointments. A PAIR OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY HIGHLY DECORATIVE CONTINENTAL VASES of Greek Revivalist influence, the cylindrical body with gilded neck band and architectural motif decoration, the base of four legged censor design, having a gilded ribbed band with applied anthemion leaf decoration and protruding side wings, the body with polychrome painted woodland scenes with cherubs at play. 32cm high.
