AN ANGLO DUTCH OAK, WALNUT AND EBONISED CHEST with geometric mouldings, gadrooned door above a central door flanked by smaller arched architectural doors divided by split pilasters, later brass lion mask and ring appliqués, on turned feet, the sides panelled, 112cm h; 58 x 123cm, c1680++Somewhat embellished, probably in the later 19th/early 20th c, also with minor repairs, the brass appliqués of later date. Structurally sound and decorative.

Architectural History: The Power Of Form Applied To Geometric Tracery; One Hundred Designs And Their Foundations Resulting From One Diagram by Robert William Billings, Architect. Published for the Author by William Blackwood & Sons, Edinburgh and London 1851. 26pp text + 100 illustrations presented two per page each faced with a geometric diagram showing the measurements and methodology, half title preceded by advertisement leaf for ""Mr Billings` Illustrated Architectural Works"", large tall octavo. `The author ....was first in the field to prove that not only was the whole detail of Gothic Architecture founded on Geometric law, but that the power of design still remained with us, waiting only on its application` - preface . Robert William Billings (1813 - 1874) was a London-born Victorian era painter and architect. He wrote The Power of Form, in which he showed examples of the use of geometry in architecture. He also illustrated The Baronial and Ecclesiastical Antiquities of Scotland. Many paintings based on his prints still survive in private collections.

An Edwardian mahogany and marquetry standing corner display cabinet:, crossbanded in satinwood, bordered with boxwood and ebonised lines and decorated with ribbon tied drapery, floral foliate scroll work and Neo- Classical urns heightened in ivory, the upper part with an architectural moulded broken pediment and simulated dentil cornice, enclosed by a pair of ogee arched astragal glazed panel doors, the lower part enclosed by a pair of panel doors between canted angles, on bracket feet, 79cm across, 217cm high.
