Dutch Scene Oil on Canvas depicting Four Figures and a Dog by Classical Buildings, label to verso "Van Delen, Dirk", unframed. Dirck Van Delen's work consists almost entirely of architectural paintings of imaginary palaces and church interiors. He was a member of the Middelburg Guild of St. Luke from 1639-1665. In 1666 he gave to the Antwerp Chamber of rhetoric Olyftack a painting, which he had made in collaboration with the painter Theodoor Boeyermans. Two years later he became a member of the Olyftack.

Various losses and chips in various places to the bottom mouldings.Second icon with angel facing left - significant damage to the carving to the top and has been off and repaired with various resulting losses and damage in various places. All over various cracks, scratches, scuffs and marks and paintwork appears both dirty and scratched. Arch around the angel with various losses. Constructed of thick heavy black stoneware pottery. Likely made by Doulton & Co, London. Measures approx; 136cm tall. Similar pots feature in lots; 138, 139 and 140 NOTE: consigned from a local property where they have been used as architectural garden features since the mid 1960's. The vendor's father worked at a Bristol metal work factory, where it is believed these contained Zinc. Upon their release from the factory they were brought home, and pulled into place by the families Morris Minor. There they have remained until they were consigned to auction. The final photographs show an original Doulton & Co of Lambeth advertisement for this style of stoneware pot.

During the British period, potters were encouraged to produce other types of object, such as vases and dishes to sell to Europeans, making up for a decline in architectural work.
