A hardbound album of interesting early photographic prints from 1911/12/13, 22.5 x 28cm. 40 x photographs, 1 x newspaper cutting, 2 x small pencil and watercolour head studies of Native American Indians.Subjects include:Birnbeck Pier 'Old Pier' Weston Super Mare, and the Grand Pier, Weston. Other views of Weston Super Mare.Large prints 16 x 21.5cmGrove Park bandstand Weston Super Mare, smaller prints 10.5 x 16.5cm. Family shots of donkeys on beach.Studies of posing child. Architectural ruins, smartly dressed young men, one with camera. Pond yacht etc.The impression from the quality of the photographs is that these may be the work of a keen amateur who printed his own images.2 x images of early flight. Bentfield 'Benny' Charles Hucks, a pioneering aviation innovator and the first British man to perform a loop the loop. On September 1st 1911 as part of a West Country tour in aid of charity, Hucks flew a Blackburn Mercury monoplane non-stop to Cardiff and back from Weston-Super Mare. 'B C Hucks' can be clearly seen on the wings of the plane in one of the photographs and given the location of the other photos in the album, it seems likely that these are photographs of this event, 16.5 x 21.5cm2 attractive photos of early single masted racing yachts (not J Class) 10 x 15cm.A glossy crisp quality image (possibly a later print) of grieving mourners, police and onlookers outside a makeshift mortuary at the Senghenydd Colliery disaster of October 1913, 16.5 x 21.5cm.This pit explosion remains the UK's worst ever mining accident, killing 439 miners and one rescuer. Captioned: "The Colliery Disaster. Pathetic scene outside the smith shops, which have been converted into temporary hospital and mortuary. Miners relatives, bitterly weeping, are led away by Salvation Army lasses."Welsh rugby, 4 x photographic prints. 2 x prints of Cardiff vs Swansea, March 25th 1911, 18 x 21.5cm & 15.5 x 22cm. A FINE 60 BORE GERMAN (THURINGIAN) WHEEL-LOCK CARBINE, SUHL, LATE 16TH CENTURY with tapering barrel chiselled against a finely matted ground over its full length with the five allegorical figures, probably of the seven liberal arts, within architectural niches surrounded by leafy tendrils inhabited by exotic birds, a hound and a rabbit, struck with the maker's mark (Neue Støckel 2767) over the breech, engraved tang signed 'HW', flat lock retained by two side nails, struck with leafy tendrils on a matted ground and stamped with the maker's mark en suite with the barrel, fitted with raised wheel-cover decorated with a double eagle displayed, engraved dog formed as a marine monster, sliding pan-cover with button release (spring defective), and delicately filed safety spring with button lever, full stock inlaid with engraved staghorn plaques within segmental frames, comprising leafy mouldings enriched with pellets over the fore-end, flowers and scrolls about the tang, a devils mask between two scrolling demi-masks behind the ramrod-pipe aperture, a strapwork frame inhabited by an owl and two rabbits opposite the lock, foliate strapwork about the trigger, hooked butt formed with a slender comb decorated with a classical vase beneath and bouquets of fruit above, the left and right with differing espagnolette masks on strapwork panels, exotic birds and flowers, and all enriched with scrollwork and pellets, associated iron trigger-guard, engraved staghorn ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap (small cracks and chips, a small numbers of inlays missing, some minor restorations), and associated horn-tipped wooden ramrod 63.5 cm; 25 in barrel Provenance Thomas Davies-Colley, Newbold Estate, Bruera, Chester, circa 1890 Thence by descent The treatment of the barrel and lock belongs to a small group of wheel-lock firearms including a number with profusely inlaid stocks previously attributed Klaus Hirt of Wassungen. A pair of such pistols, with the same mark as the present carbine and also with a double eagle on the lock, were formerly in the Saxon Royal Collections, Dresden, sold Sotheby & Co, London, 23 March 1970, lot 66. Another pistol decorated in this manner was sold Sotheby's Olympia, lot 26 June 2003. The leafy tendrils on the barrel and lock are characteristic of Suhl firearms of this period a number of which have stocks carved en suite. For a discussion of this group, many of which are preserved in the former Saxon Electoral Armoury, now the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden see Schaal 1978, pp.19-33.

Rectangular form and fitted with two silver-topped ink bottles, the arched back plate of a architectural form with galleried sides, centre applied with an unmarked gold cartouche, initialled, raised on four ball feet, together with a filigree dip pen CONDITION REPORT: Filigree pen in good condition. The 8.5 inch dial with two winding holes, Roman numerals and beetle and poker hands. The sides with filigree brass fish scale on silk backing below ringed floral scroll handles, glazed door to verso, opens to reveal signed movement (Dwerrihouse & Ogston Davies Street, London) striking on large 3.25 inch silvered bellH 41cm x W 28cm x D 16.5cm CONDITION REPORT: Missing wooden trim to the top section. (pieces with clock). Glass missing from the dial, loose spandrel sections to the front at bottom. Sides with vented grills and floral drop ring handles, rear door has wood glued to hold glass. The cloisonne style painted dial with bird on prunus blossom and gilt Roman numerals, retailer name Horace Woodward below XII, the dial cover opens to reveal mechanical winding ports in chrome stamped Great Britain, patented 1879.
