A 35-BORE BAVARIAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLE BY JOHANN WOLF PETER, ÖTTINGEN, CIRCA 1725-30 with heavy swamped octagonal sighted barrel cut with the maker's brass-lined stamp, JP crowned, signed "Pierre a Oetting", cut with narrow wavy linear bands over the breech, the muzzle and the tang, numbered 1, and the bore rifled with eight narrow grooves, bevelled lock engraved with border ornament en suite with the barrel and framing engraved small motifs including an architectural landscape, carved moulded figured walnut full stock, the butt flattened along its underside, with raised cheek-piece and fitted with carved moulded cover for the patch-box, full brass mounts, the butt-plate and trigger-guard each engraved with Laub und Bandelwerk ornament, the latter with chiselled acanthus finials, the side-plate decorated in a similar fashion, pierced, cast in low relief and involving a pair of griffins supporting a cartouche, three faceted ramrod-pipes, vacant escutcheon with coronet, horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped wooden ramrod (the stock repaired through the grip and cracked in front of the lock, the forward trigger-guard finial cracked in two places). 71.7cm; 28 ¼ in barrel

O8v, numerose illustrazioni xilografiche nel testo, capilettera e testatine incise su legno. Lavori di tarlo lesivi del testo alle carte del primo fascicolo, compreso il frontespizio. Legatura ottocentesca in mezza pelle, carta marrone ai piatti, fregi e titoli in oro al dorso, tagli spruzzati in marrone, abrasioni agli angoli, rotture lungo le cerniere, mende alle cuffie. Al verso della sgurdia anteriore ex dono manoscritto firmato T. Perin. Prima edizione in francese del capolavoro di Leon Battista Alberti, che ebbe una grandissima influenza sugli sviluppi dell'architettura francese. Le figure sono tratte da quelle che corredano l'edizione italiana del Bartoli, apparsa nel 1550, but "some of the italian blocks were omitted by Kerver and a number of additions made to the series" (Mortimer, no. 12). L'edizione contiene anche un epitaffio di Jean Martin del Ronsard. A 17th Century Spanish Collector's Cabinet on associated Stand. The cabinet having a break-front centre section enclosing five drawers, with an architectural facade incorporating tortoiseshell columns flanking an arched niche with a gilt brass statuette and further decorative brass mounts. The breakfront centre flanked by banks of tortoiseshell twin paneled drawers with ornate brass escutcheons. The walnut table stand with splayed reel turned A-frame supports braced by iron blade knopped scroll brackets, 60 ins 152 cms) overall in height, 49 ins (125 cms) wide, 16 ins (41 cms) deep.
