The text of this Early Lyon edition, with some parts in red, is printed in two typographical columns with architectural decorations. Illustrated with 4 threequarter page woodcuts : the Genesis, the Heaven, the Nativity by Hans Springinklee (c. 1490/95-1540), a student of Albrecht Dürer, and the Solomon asleep. Decorated also with c. 130 large woodcuts in the text and numerous ornamental initials. Beautiful title in red typography within a Renaissance ornemental woodcut border, a central vignette figuring 2 young girls holding the coat of arms of Lyon and a large fleur-de-lis printed in red at the bottom. Tables of concordance of the Gospels printed in red typographical columns. Various natural? cracks throughout the gesso. Decorative plume at bottom has now been repaired (partly). General losses to gesso consistent with age. Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg (Dutch, 1852-1924), Dutch Canal Scene, signed lower right "Klinkenberg", oil on canvas, 48 x 68cm (19 x 27in). Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg was a pupil of Christoffel Bisschop (1828-1904) and Louis Meijer. He became a member of the Pulchri studio and went on to win many prizes. A street bears his name in the area of Dutch painters in Overtoomse Veld-Noord, Amsterdam. Klinkenberg specialized in historical town views, often bathing them in sunlight or reflected in the water of a canal or harbour. His contemporaries admired him for the effects he made with sunlight on brick, sandstone and roofs. Many Dutch towns were painted by him and the topographical recognisability and the impressionistic way of his painting gave him an honourable place in the rich tradition of architectural pictorial art. Klijkenberg`s work is in the Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam
