A Charles II West Country Silver Trefid Spoon, Probably by Richard Hamlin, Taunton, Dated 1683 the back of the trefid terminal prick engraved with initials 'W*E' over 'W*T' and with the date '1683' between19cm long, 17dwt, 26grRichard Hamlin is recorded as an important spoonmaker who was also known to have made the church plate for both the parishes of Otterhampton and Stocklynch Ottersey (T. Kent, West Country Silver Spoons and Their Makers 1550-1750, London, 1992, p. 96-97). He would seem to have used different marks, including the distinctive RH in a shield and above two pellets and an annulet as on the present spoon (op. cit. p. 96, no. M.60).Marked on back of handle with maker's mark RH twice. There is some minor wear to the marks. There is some overall surface scratching and wear. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the engraving. There is some wear to the edge of the bowl on one side.
