Battle of Omdurman, 1898, Khalifas Treasure, : a copper coin captured during the battle set into a silver dish, engraved around from the khalifas treasure house, omdurman; good condition; with a 9ct and Regency period ivory Officers vanity case with mirror, the top enamelled with Roman-style bust in gold panel, superb condition; and a Victorian ivory & silver toasting fork, good condition.
Identity Disk (2), French 5 Francs Coin of 1852, silver, obverse erased and inscribed, H. R. Salmon, C.P.O. Mech., R.A.F. 202909, C. of E., fitted with two loops for wear; another, French Republic 2 Franc Coin, silver, reverse erased and inscribed, R.N.A.S. H. Gunning Wood, 5574, with gilt band and loops for wear, nearly very fine and better (2) £40-60 Howard Rider Salmon was born in Sidcup, Kent, on 11 February 1890. An Engineer by occupation, he entered the R.N.A.S. on 1 January 1915 as a Petty Officer Mechanic. He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer 3rd Class on 1 September 1916. Based at Pembroke III and President II, he latterly served at Crystal Palace and Cranwell. During August 1917-March 1918, he was on the Ark Royal and at East Mudros in the Eastern Mediterranean. Entering the R.A.F. as a Chief Mechanic (E) he continued to serve at East Mudros until February 1919. For his services in the Mediterranean theatre of war he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (London Gazette 3 June 1919). Sold with copied service papers.
Victorian circular bowl embossed with floral acanthus scrolls and vacant cartouche, coin mounted to the base marked 'bank token 3 shill 1812'. Diameter measures 4 1/4 inches (11cm), gross weight 3.392ozt (105.52gms). Hallmarked London 1892, sponsors mark indistinct. The bowl is in excellent condition. There are a few surface scratches and general tarnish to the whole, but no further damage. There are some small build-ups of polish in the grooves of the embossed decoration. The hallmark is rubbed but legible, and the sponsor's mark is indistinct.
