In his work, usually known as RecGen, Waddington describes this coin in a note on p. 541 as non revue, having been unable to examine the actual coin in the Arigoni Museum (as described by Mionnet) and apparently disbelieving the image on plate XI, no. 176; it was added to the RecGen supplement by Münsterberg. 1180-1430 AD, group comprising: short cross pennies (2, Davi and Ricard at London), cut farthings (6); Henry III, voided long cross fractions (halfpenny and 2 farthings); Edward I/II?, long cross series (fragment of a penny, trimmed recently to a 'cut farthing'), Edward IV?, long cross penny (York), Henry VI, annulet issue halfgroat (London); with a Scotland, William the Lion, short cross cut farthing and a British Celtic 'Thurrock' type cast potin coin, 1st century BC. 12.46 grams total. [16, No Reserve] Fine to very fine.
18th century AD. A group of silver coin love tokens, formed from worn sixpences and shillings of the William III to Georgian period, most twice bent in the traditional form, some with punched initials or marks; one from a George III copper halfpenny dated 1775. 56 grams total, 19-28mm. (3/4 - 1"). The traditional rhyme 'There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile; he found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile; he bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse; and they all lived together in a little crooked house' refers to a 'crooked sixpence'; the giving of such a token by a young man to his girl was common in the 18th century period. It was said that if the girl accepted the love of the young man, she kept the token; if not she threw it away. [23, No Reserve] Fine condition.
A large quantity of tri-fold pale green printed card mounts to accept Roman coins (aperture 23mm diameter), suitable mainly for denarii, antoninianii and later bronzes; printed with selection of Roman coin images and brief general text. 9.90 kg total, each 22 x 10cm (7.5 x 10cm folded"). Benson crown wind half hunter pocket watch, the white enamel dial having hourly Roman numeral markers with minute track border and subsidiary dial to 6 o'clock, further enamel quarterly markers to bezel, lid having enamelled hourly Roman numerals with inner minute track, inner case hallmarked London 1937 along with makers mark, on a silver Albert watch chain, with partial hallmark, and a 1935 one shilling coin.
A lot to include a 9ct yellow gold swivel fob, stamped 9ct, a yellow metal intaglio seal fob, a rose metal purple stone set fob, a sterling silver propelling pencil, a silver pill box, with Egyptian inspired relief to lid, a white metal propelling pencil with ornate scroll design to body, a white metal cigar cutter, an 1887 crown together with two stone set charms, another coin and two white metal items.
