ORGAN GRINDER AND PERFORMING BEAR MECHANICAL BANK. A very fine example of a classical mechanical bank with a clockwork mechanism. Mechanism can be activated by either a lever on the base or depositing a coin in the organ grinder. When activated the bear proceeds to spin about while the organ grinder cranks the hurdy gurdy device. A youth and a police officer looking over the rear fence enjoying the folly of the action. Overall paint is vibrant with an abundance of yellow and red highlighting to the green base. The house itself has wonderful copper highlighting to the windows and the red roof has excellent paint. The back fence with the police officer and youth is intact and also has a very fine paint finish. A really nice all original and complete example with no damage to the iron castings and in fine working order. SIZE: 7"" w x 4-3/4"" d. CONDITION: As stated above, very good to fine condition. The one minor issue being some oxidation/dark spots on flat green base where bear and organ grinder stand. The bear himself has fabulous copper highlighting and his bar is intact with no broken end pieces. A light cleaning would certainly enhance the overall appeal of this bank! 1-14111
CHIEF BIG MOON MECHANICAL BANK. Imaginative and elaborate cast iron bank with an embossed red and yellow base with native imagery. The top depicts a squaw sitting in front of her teepee holding a fish. When activated frog jumps from the pond in a leap for the fish and the coin is deposited as the squaw pulls the fish out of reach. SIZE: 9-3/4"" l. CONDITION: Good to very good and complete with coin trap. Exhibits scattered paint chips and scratches. 1-14276
BOY SCOUT CAMP MECHANICAL BANK. Elaborately cast mechanical bank by J and E Stevens from the early part of the 20th century inspired by the founding of the Boy Scouts a few years earlier. Bank depicts a teepee in a wooded setting with two scouts at the campfire, one of whom holds a Boy Scout Flag. Place a coin in the tree above the teepee and when the lever is pressed the scout raises the flag and the coin drops into the receptacle. SIZE: 9-1/2"" l. CONDITION: Overall good with its original coin trap and showing scattered paint chips. Would benefit from a light cleaning. 1-14273
J & E STEVENS PADDY & THE PIG MECHANICAL BANK. A classic bank depicting Paddy the inebriated Irishman and his pig. Typical of the time period, banks used stereotypes and exaggerated caricatures of various ethnicities. Paddy in a seated position is holding his pig. When the coin is placed on the pig`s snout and the lever pressed, the pig`s front hoof kicks the coin into Paddy`s mouth as he rolls his eyes heavenward. At first glance, the bank appears to be in very fine original condition, but upon closer examination, at some point many years ago, perhaps the father did some touch up and repainting to various areas of the bank. For the most part, black light inspection reveals this touch up was done prior to the 1960s and the paint is even crazed appropriately. However, the bank does have a fair amount of paint enhancement/touch up. SIZE: 7"" l x 8"" h. CONDITION: As stated above. 1-14264
MASON CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK. Somewhat scarce mechanical bank by Shepard Hardware depicting a bricklayer plying his trade behind a work in progress as his assistant stands by with hod in hand. Activation lever is an old replacement. 1-14277

MILLS WIZARD FORTUNE TELLER. A visually attractive arcade machine manufactured by Mills in the 1920s-1930s time period. The earlier version of this machine was simplistic in nature with a wooden front but in order to attract prospective players Mills redesigned the front employing a fanciful, large aluminum cabinet with a wizard, a pedestal with a flaming urn and a bevy of decorative symbols, people, etc. A card on the front of the machine asks a series of questions and one would choose a question moving the lever about to said question. A coin deposited and the lever on the side engaged magically your answer would appear in the window. The front casting is enameled in various colors to attract potential players and the cabinet itself is constructed of wood with a light finish. The mechanism is simplistic in nature and originally sold with 6 different cards and interior wheels which could be easily changed by the operator/owner. Machine is completely original and still retains the directions for changing fortune reel on the inside of back door. A great coin-op piece that is highly sought after, especially today when collectors are looking for pieces that are in all original, untouched condition! SIZE: 14"" w x 18-1/2"" t. CONDITION: Very fine all original condition. A light cleaning to the painted aluminum front casting and the wooden finish would certainly enhance the overall appeal of this coin-op device. 1-14259
TABLETOP CAST IRON CLAMSHELL MUTOSCOPE. A visually attractive machine produced by the Mutoscope company during the early part of the 20th century. These coin-operated devices became a virtual goldmine for the operator. With little effort and little time, one could change the reel card to a new and exciting show. These machines were popular in arcades and other locations as well. It`s hard to believe some of these machines are still in use today. Virtually indestructible and perhaps needing only a die cast worm gear or other small mechanical part, these machines could work until the end of time. This example has had some older restoration to the paint and currently Felix the Cat is available for your entertainment. Side door has new lock, which is not important. Original cash box within and the big plus is there appears to be no damage to the iron castings. An added feature and sometimes found is a lighted marquee, which also gives additional light by means of an opaque glass panel atop the machine. Mechanics are functioning by means of a nickel and coin mechanism appears to be complete. However, some minor adjustment can or should be made. The Felix reel bundle appears to be original and in very good condition. SIZE: 49"" h (including marquee). CONDITION: Older restoration as stated above. 1-13752
CHESTER POLLARD COIN-OPERATED ""PLAY FOOTBALL"" GAME. A great coin-op piece often found in arcades from the 1920s-40s. Charging only a nickel, two people would control their respective teams and play a simulated game of soccer/football. Lifelike actions with kicking and moving figures as well as the frustration your opponent would feel when you scored against them. These American made machines were quite popular arcade and amusement park attractions and were heavily used. They yielded the operator a significant return on investment, which at a cost of $550 in 1926 was quite a hefty sum. As in this case, oftentimes the oak cabinetry was repainted to freshen it up for the following seasons. Machine appears to be a good solid example, but in need of some mechanical as well as cosmetic attention if one were inclined to do so. SIZE: 73"" h x 28"" d x 46"" w. CONDITION: Coin entry area appears complete, but in need of a cover plate so as not to expose the interior mechanism. Retains original marquee with paper insert. Players would benefit from a freshening of uniforms. 1-13931
MILLS ""CAILLOSCOPE"" DROP CARD VIEWING MACHINE. During the teens through the 1930s, Mills manufactured a number of drop card machines, which today are still in use in many arcades including Knott`s Berry Farm, Hershey Park, and Disneyland to name a few. This particular machine is a somewhat fancier version with an elaborate iron casting, which when opened would allow the operator to retrieve the day`s receipts. Similar to a music box, it has a large clockwork style mechanism contained within the cabinet. When a penny is deposited, one could view approximately 10-15 stereoview cards. Cards could easily be changed as well as the marquee to reflect the current show so as always to maintain repeat customers waiting to see the newest show. Of course one coin never got you the whole story and many coins were needed to see the complete show. This particular machine has an old west theme featuring a couple cowboys. A most visually attractive machine including carved wooden legs (not original to machine) and cast iron owl handles. SIZE: 74"" h to top of marquee x 20"" w x 17"" d. CONDITION: Overall in as found, operational ""park"" condition. Lacking keys for locks on front section of machine. 1-13749
