A CHINESE BRONZE KNIFE COIN, of gently angled form with a curved end and ring handle, the upper surface with nine archaic characters, the handle with two horizontal lines, probably Warring States, 7.25"" long. Provenance: The Collection of Dr. Julian Deveron Redmill (1916-1993), and thence by descent. Probably acquired on the London Art Market in the 1950`s. This knife coin is unusually large, pointing to an early date, probably within the Warring States Period. It is very rare to find an example with so many characters on the blade. For a comparable six-character example, see Wang Yu-Chuan `Early Chinese Coinage`, 1951, plate 29.
