*‘Winning Hand?’. November 1946. Large original pen and ink caricature/ cartoon newspaper artwork, highlighted with colour, for ‘The Herald’ newspaper by artist Samuel Wells. The cartoon depicts the Australian (kangaroo) and England (lion) selectors playing cards, the cards being Test players. The Australian selectors are showing there hand with images of Bradman, Hassett, Miller etc. On the floor is the ‘Lucky coin for Don to win the toss’. The cartoon, signed by Wells, measures 18”x13”. Dated to Herald label 20th November 1946. Excellent image. Good condition The first Test of the series started on the 29th November and Australia won the series 3-0
