Silver toddy ladle with baleen handle and inserted Charles I gold crown coin, the foliate embossed bowl inscribed as a gift to Donald McDonald of Tormore, 1879. Donald Macdonald (1836-1912) of Tormore in Sleat, Skye, was one of Skye’s best-known figures throughout the second half the nineteenth century. He was Factor (often styled Commissioner) for Lord Macdonald’s estates from 1872 until 1879. He was descended from Donald, son of Sir Donald Macdonald, first baronet of Sleat, and his wife, Margaret, daughter of John Cameron of Lochiel. This silver toddy ladle, was his gift from the Committee of the Skye Highland Games, of which he was joint founder with Harry Macdonald of Viewfield and Secretary from its foundation in 1877 until his resignation in 1879, when he relinquished most of his public roles, including his work for the estate. Latterly, he tenanted the Sligachan Hotel where he died. After his burial in Kilmore Cemetery in Skye, a Celtic Cross headstone was erected with the inscription, “His personality and kind consideration for the welfare of others won the confidence and esteem of all".
RARE AND UNUSUAL GROUP OF (10) 10P 1992 TRISKELION COINS, these new design ten pence coins issued to replace the larger old style ten pence, Pobjoy Mint it is thought minted a pre run of around 200 coins and sent out to businesses with coin operated vending machines to test the efficiency of the new coins, just as the Royal Mint did in 2016 for the new one pound round coin before the coins launch in 2017, most of the Manx 10p coins were rejected by vending machines Pobjoy asked for the coins to be turned, originally the coins were sent to businesses in groups of 10 sealed and embossed in a Pobjoy pack, these 10p Triskelion coins had the AA mintmark but subsequently changed for the launch to A B and A C, these ten coins are as struck and still in protective bubbles
4x Great War Identity Discs of Tyneside Scottish Battalions Northumberland Fusiliers, consisting of hallmarked silver example (Birmingham 1917) engraved “PTE F FULLERTON 28222 C.E. 21ST N.F B.E.F FRANCE”; alloy oval identity disc stamped “Lieut C T Trigg C.E 3rd Tyneside Scottish”; brass oval identity disc crudely engraved “Sgt J T SPARKES 69922 B.E.F TYNESIDE – SCOTTICH” note the miss-spelling of Scottish, would indicate made outside of the UK; French Napoleon III coin, stamped “HARDMAN JA 35041 4 TYNESIDE SCOTTISH”. (4 items) Frederick Fullerton served with the 21st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers 2nd Tyneside Scottish, the battalion landed in France 1916 and disbanded in 1917, Fullerton later served with the KOYLI with service number 63139; Lieutenant Charles Thomas Trigg was from Newcastle Upon Tyne, he served with the Northumberland Fusiliers overseas in France from 10th January 1916. He was awarded the Silver War Badge for a gun shot wound he received, he was awarded the British War & Victory medals; Private J A Hardman was from Hulme, Lancashire, he was serving with the 21st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers / 2nd Tyneside Scottish when he was wounded by gun shot in 1917.
