A salvaged coin from the wreck of the 'El Cazador', milled 8 reales 'bust dollar', dated 1783, Charles III, assayer FF, graded fine on the accompanying certificate, * The El Cazador, a Spanish brigantine of war, was lost without a trace in the winter of 1784 while on route from Vera Cruz Mexico to the port of New Orleans. The wreck site was accidentally discovered on August 2, 1993 by a fishing vessel working the area. The treasure of the El Cazador, consisting of over 400,000 Spanish 8 reales and an equal amount of smaller denomination Spanish colonial coins from the Mexico City mint, was intended to stabilize the Spanish monetary system in colonial North America.
An unusual 19th century Chinese embroidered silk pelmet, with hand embroidered floral, avian and moth subjects on a rich blue ground, finished by a black shaped border decorated with stylised motifs, the two ends joined with a 10 Sen coin button, approx. length 34in. (86.5cm.) when joined. * Condition: Colours strong. Some age related brown stain marks to dark blue silk throughout. Black & silver edge tape detached (unstitched) in a few places. Split to corner stitching to blue silk at one end. A couple of small worn holes to pale blue silk lining and a smattering of small moth holes to inner lining only (old and inactive). Overall good condition for age.
