The Property of a Gentleman and Racing Enthusiast1982 Datsun 280 ZX CoupeRegistration no. LCN 679XChassis no. HS130950030Odometer reading: 47,601MOT expiry date: February 2022 * Low mileage unrestored example of a significant Japanese sports coupe* Rare 5-speed manual two-seater model* Excellent running and driving with much history on file Completely redesigned from the previous 240 and 260Z models, the 280ZX was aimed squarely at the US market, with softer suspension, more sound insulation, more comfortable seats and greater levels of luxury equipment including power steering and high-end audio. The first Datsun to see the Nissan badge used, the 280ZX was usually specified with automatic transmission and it switched from carburettors to fuel injection to meet US emissions requirements. Marketed as a sports two-seater, as seen here, and a 2+2, the 280ZX proved to be a strong seller in the US market and while sales were good in Europe, very few survive in good condition. As restoration costs far outweigh resale values, good original cars like the one presented here are the desirable and intelligent choice. With its period style of silver over blue two-tone paint and glass sunroof, this Z car has patently been cherished all its life and wears its years very well, testament to its low mileage and careful ownership. Well known by the UK 'Z Club' the car was shown to great acclaim at the 1990 Z Rally celebrations. Cared for by specialists Ainsworth Engineering of Sussex, the Z wears new tyres, fitted in January 2021 and was last regularly used in 2014. It has now been carefully recommissioned and is ready for a new owner to relive the heady days of the 1980s in.Please click the link to view the walkaround video of this lot: click hereFootnotes:Vendor Score Total: /100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1965 Alfa Romeo Guilia SpiderRegistration no. ECV 469CChassis no. 383241Engine no. 13478Odometer reading: 41,306MOT expiry date: N/A*Rare UK market RHD car*Extensively restored by long term owner*Comprehensive history and just four ownersPlease click the link to view the walkaround video of this lot: click hereFootnotes:A successor to the highly successful Giulietta series, the Giulia 101 coupé and Spider benefitted from a 1600 cc engine and front disc brakes. Available in 'Normale' - with a single carburettor - and twin carburettor Sprint versions, the 101 series cars combine the charm and poise of the Giulietta with real long distance touring ability. The car offered was supplied new to a lady by E. L. Bouts Motors Ltd of Wolverhampton and has had four documented owners, the first of whom kept the car until 1972. It then passed to another lady owner who kept the Alfa until 1974 when it was sold to the penultimate keeper who sold the car to the present owner in 1985. He then embarked on a full restoration, which took several years and has resulted in the exceptional car we see here. Reported as running and driving very well, the Alfa is offered with its history, including the old 'green' registration book, the previous and current V5Cs, letters from the first owner in 1972, past MOTs and tax discs, and an original owner's manual and service book. Right-hand drive 101 series cars are rare as many succumbed to corrosion and neglect, this is a fantastic example with great provenance.Vendor Score Total: 95/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1979 Lotus Eclat V8 'Spyder Donington' CoupéRegistration no. XCE 656TChassis no. 7811/1364AOdometer reading: TBCMoT expiry date: exempt*3.5-litre Rover V8 engine *Built in 1990*Used in Spydersport's publicity material*In storage since 2000*Offered for re-commissioningBuilt by Spydersport Ltd, the Spyder Donington was a conversion kit for the Lotus Elite/Eclat consisting of a rolling backbone chassis designed to accommodate the 3.5-litre Rover V8 engine, replacing the original Lotus frame and 2.0-litre 16-valve four. Lotus themselves had built a Rover V8-engined Elite prototype, only for the project to be vetoed by Colin Chapman who was intent on using only Lotus's own power plants. The Spydersport chassis was rust and corrosion inhibited and the Rover five-speed manual gearbox was specified. The Spyder Donington could be ordered with power assisted steering and air conditioning, while other noteworthy features included a Jaguar XJ limited-slip differential with inboard disc brakes. This Eclat-based Spyder Donington was last on the road in 1999 and has been in storage since 2000. The car was converted in 1990 and used in Spydersport's publicity material (see file). Previous owner I P Morrison clearly found driving the Lotus a daunting prospect: 'Lotus V8 too fast for me. Please buy it before (a) I kill myself or worse still (b) I lose my licence!' Lotus style with British Power - Excellent!Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 64/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1962 Ford Zodiac ConvertibleRegistration no. 657 BKGChassis no. 206EZ62B017018Engine no. Z247697Odometer reading: 50,696MOT expiry date: N/A*Rare convertible survivor*Consistently serviced and maintained by long term owner*Sensitively updated and improved while maintaining originalityPlease click the link to view the walkaround video of this lot: click hereFootnotes:Combining the practicality of Ford running gear and the glamour of its American-inspired styling and luxury, the 'Mark 2' Zodiac was the top of the line offering from the Blue Oval in 1962. Add to this the convertible top of the car offered here and you have a truly beguiling family-size fast tourer. With its powerful 2553 cc engine and 3-speed manual gearbox, the car offered has the benefit of the optional overdrive and front disc brakes with servo assistance.Further refinements include a power operated hood and extra front driving lights atop the rechromed front bumper. Purchased by the present owner in 2012 and always dry stored and used sparingly, this Zodiac was restored some years ago and is said to be running and driving very well. It has been consistently serviced and maintained and the engine has been updated with a performance-enhancing six branch exhaust manifold (the original 'log' exhaust manifold was the major restriction to the six cylinder engine's standard performance) and electronic ignition. With its lovely combination of two-tone blue over white paintwork being matched by the retrimmed interior, this Zodiac from the last year of Mark 2 production represents excellent value for a fast and stylish four seat tourer.Vendor Score Total: 64/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb 'Fintail' SaloonRegistration no. 923 YNYChassis no. 111-041-200S8721Odometer reading: 21,693 milesMOT Expiry: Exempt*Rare UK RHD example*Low mileage*Manual *Sold for restorationMercedes-Benz unveiled the 220SEb at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1959. The SEb featured an elegant design, offering a wider radiator shell, wrap around windscreen, wider rear window, vertically positioned headlamps and discrete tailfins. The high purchase price meant that relatively few were sold in the UK, most with the automatic transmission. This example is still wearing its original Havana Brown paintwork, and is not only right-hand drive, but also a manual. Inside the car retains many original features but will require work. The car is in need of a full restoration inside and out. The engine starts and holds good oil pressure, but will require work to get moving having been in storage for many years. The W111 Fintail is a desirable classic, and this example offers the opportunity to create a new lease of life for the car. Please click the link to view the walkaround video of this lot: click hereFootnotes:Vendor Score Total: 38/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH.
