A rare 18th century French musical lantern clockJacqus Romain, RouenThe iron frame with shaped top and bottom plates united by decorative square-section pillars surmounted by turned brass finials, on toupie feet, the twelve hammers set on plates to the right hand side with matching scalloped edges and fancy columns, all surmounted by a large (6.5 inch diameter) hour bell and the run of seven graduated bells. The 9-inch brass Roman dial with cruciform half-hour markers set on an engraved rectangular dialplate, the centre engraved with four birds among floral trellis, signed Jacqus (sic) Romain, Rouen, under substantial steel fleur des lys hands. The triple weight-driven spike-and-rope movement with anchor escapement, countwheel striking and robust, pinned wooden chiming barrel controlling the twelve hammers playing on seven bells each hour. Heuer Super Autavia: a steel cased manual-wind dash-board chronograph, circa1959-1967, the black arabic dial with luminous numerals and outer bezel, with two subsidiary chronograph dials, fitted a crown wound seventeen-jewel movement signed Ed' Heuer & Co, SA, also signed on the back plate and stamped '70050' to left of winder, bezel 55mm wide, (missing mounting plate).Note: The interesting features of this timer include the 'Time of Day (Clock)' as you would read it on a standard clock, with white hands that glow in the dark for hours and minutes, and a seconds register located at the 6 o'clock position on the face, known by Heuer as the "White System", pulling the crown out allows for proper time adjustment as with most time pieces, re-positioning crown starts the newly set movement, the stopwatch feature is known as the "Red System", the hours and half hours are read by the red hour hand against the red numbers and indicating hash marks on the turning bezel; the small minute dial located at the 12 o'clock position on the face; and seconds (accurate to 1/5 seconds) are read by the red centre second hand.
