1933 Austin 10/4 SaloonReg. no. AGC 564Chassis no. G10937Engine no. I6111Introduced in April 1932the 10/4 was Austin's best-selling car in the 1930s and continued in production, with upgrades, until 1947. Initially offered with the chrome radiator surround the first upgrade came in 1935 with the introduction of a cowl painted to match the body colour. The design of the car was conservative with a pressed steel body built on a ladder chassis. The engine is a 1132 cc four-cylinder side valve coupled to a 4-speed gearbox. The four-wheel brakes are cable and rod operated by pedal or by hand lever on the offside of the speed lever. For the first year only, a four-door saloon was made in two versions. The basic model cost £155 and was capable of reaching 55 miles per hour. The car on offer was first registered on 26 March 1933. Delivered new to a Mr Lewis the car then passed to his son. The vendor’s father acquired 'Agatha' in 1988 who was then inherited by his daughter in 2005. It is fitted with its original 1132 cc engine which pulls well with no nasty sounds and on start-up doesn't emit smoke. The body and paintwork appear to be original and the condition is consummate with its age and would benefit from attention. The running boards are still covered with their original rubbers embossed with the Austin logo. The blue leather interior is also original and can best be described as well used but functional. In 2012 four new tyres were fitted and the addition of modern flashing indicators, a sensible safety addition undertaken at the same time. Driven regularly until 2004 the car has been used sparingly since, with her last outing in 2019. This is an unusual opportunity to acquire a two family from new car from the early days of the 10/4, a car which of course benefits from nil rate VED and is not subject to the annual MOT. AGC 564 is offered for sale with a current V5 together with a quantity of old MOT certificates, some old tax discs, various Austin 10 Club magazines, a 6-volt manual, workshop manuals and an Owners Help Manual.
1983 Mini MayfairReg. no. A566 SEUChassis no. SAXXL251N20174683Engine no. 99H997P0139458Introduced in 1959 the iconic Mini needs no introduction. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis the car was manufactured at Longbridge and Cowley and marketed by BMC under both the Austin and Morris names until 1969 when Mini became a marque in its own right. In the 1980's the marque reverted back to the Austin name. This particular example was purchased new in Gloucester, registered in October 1983, and was kept by that owner for seven years. In 1990 a lady acquired the car and kept it until she could no longer drive in 2017, and then it passed to her nephew. The car is presented for sale in excellent condition. Still with its original 998cc engine coupled to a 4-speed manual gear box there are a raft of old MOT certificates backing up the indicated mileage of just over 45,000 miles. The bodywork appears unmarked having had a respray, in the original brown, in the last two years. At the same time both the A panels and nearside sill were replaced. In 2019 the engine underwent a lot of remedial work to facilitate an unleaded head with bills on file for nearly £1,000. The interior is beige cloth and the seats don’t have any rips or repairs. Also installed is what appears to be the original radio. This is a good example of a Mini Mayfair that would be hard to beat, having always been garaged and cared for. It should be noted that the car was salvaged at some point, when a dent to door, caused in an accident, meant the cost of repairs was more than the value of the car at that time. No other damage occurred in that accident. The vendor has reluctantly offered it for sale due to loss of storage. The car is on the button and ready to enjoy and show. There is a current V5, a raft of MOT certificates, bills dating back to the early 1990's, the original driver’s handbook, original, but damaged, consumer guide, a Haynes manual for this model and two sets of original keys.Estimate: £4,000 – 5,000
1973 Citroen SMReg. no. OBU 635MChassis no. OOSC2211Engine no. 301983Citroen was formed in 1919 and immediately proved popular with the French populace with the introduction of its first offering the Type A 10CV. Offered ready for the road and complete with coachwork, toolkit, spare wheel, electric starter and lighting, Citroen took 16,000 orders within the first two weeks with delivery to the first customer in July 1919. After producing around 2,800 cars in 1919 production steadily rose to over 55,000 by 1924. Always looking to the future Andre Citroen had an infatuation for front wheel drive cars and the iconic Traction was introduced in 1934 and carried on in production until the 1950's in various guises. Citroen had held patents for hydraulic suspension from 1944 and these came to the fore with the introduction of the DS range and carried on into the SM range. The SM came into being as an experiment when Pierre Bercot wanted to know whether there was limit to the amount of power that could be transmitted to the front wheel drive cars. After testing DS based experimental cars up to 380 hp it was reported that Citroen had the know how to build front wheel drive cars up to any power.Maserati were approached and supplied a 2760cc, 180bhp V6 engine and the coupe coachwork was designed by Opron & Giret with customer orders taken from October 1970. Citroen produced just over 12,000 of the SM up until 1975. The SM was only ever produced with left hand drive although Citroen did sanction British Engineer and Citroen specialist, Roy Middleton, to convert just three to right hand drive. The SM offered for sale is a rolling project needing improvement mainly to the bodywork. Currently fitted with a 2.7l carburettor engine the original Maserati V6 engine is included in the sale and that has, by repute, been rebuilt with the better solid valves and is ready to be fitted back into the car. It should be noted that the original engine is turning and free but has never been started. The vendor reports that the hydraulic system has been checked over with all new parts fitted where necessary and there are no leaks from that system or the braking system. There are also bills on file for remanufacturing the radiator and re-nickelling the reflectors. The fuel tank has been refurbished and new fuel pumps fitted as well as fuel lines. The bodywork is generally sound but there are areas that need treatment prior to a respray. Some repairs have been done to the rear wings; the spats are not currently fitted but are with the vehicle. The cloth interior can best be described as saggy but functional. The car come with a current V5, is MOT exempt and attracts a nil rate VED as a Historic Vehicle. There is some history, a number of invoices for parts used as well as copies of the SM owner’s manual and volume 1 of the SM repair manual. The vehicle can be used as is, with improvements being carried out along the way.Estimate: £16,000 – 18,000
1986 Porsche 911 CarreraReg. no. 70 WKNChassis no. WP0ZZZ91ZGS150494Engine no. 63G01553The Porsche 911 was introduced in its first form in 1964 and was for a long time the face of Porsche. The replacement for the SC series came in 1984 as the 911 3.2 Carrera, reviving the Carrera name for the first time since 1977. This was the last iteration in the original 911 series, with all subsequent models featuring new body styling and new brake, electronic, and suspension technologies. A new higher-displacement engine, a 3.2-litre horizontally opposed flat 6-cylinder unit, was utilized. At the time Porsche claimed it was 80% new. Three basic models were available – coupé, targa and cabriolet. The Carrera is almost indistinguishable from the SC with the external clue being the front fog lights that were integrated into the front valance. Total production of the 911 3.2 Carrera series was 76,473 cars of which just under 20,000 were cabriolets.70 WKN was originally sold new in Cornwall. There is a letter on file from a previous owner stating that the car did have a full service history but that had unfortunately been lost. Acquired by the vendor in 2004, this Carrera has been used sparingly since and is offered in its eye-catching yellow livery with blue leather interior and black hood. When inspected the car fired up immediately; the 3.2l flat six engine has a throaty note, with rapid acceleration; drive is by a 5-speed manual gearbox. All gears engaged as they should. It should be noted that some minor bodywork issues exist which a new owner might want to address. The rear nearside wing has a paint crack and there is some minor bubbling on the front nearside wing; the hood is in good condition. At some point in the past the car seems to have been involved in an accident and was classed as a Category C insurance claim (Cat. C being uneconomic to repair at that time due to the car’s value). The vendor had the car checked over and there was no apparent structural damage hidden after repair. The car is fitted with a Toad alarm and there are several old MOT certificates in the file. Also included is some service history, old tax discs and an original driver’s manual. This is a car that is ready to enjoy this summer and would benefit from some improvements next winter.Estimate: £25,000 – 30,000
1974 Rover P6 3500SReg. no. GAE 397NChassis no. 48111099DEngine no. t.b.a.The Rover P6 represented something of a departure from the P4 which it replaced in 1963. Whereas the P4 was traditional and somewhat conservative – although still a superb car – the P6 was forward-thinking and thoroughly modern. It was extremely well-received, and in 1964 became the very first winner of the European Car of the Year title. Intended to appeal to a broad market, the P6 was priced lower and initially had smaller four-cylinder engines, as opposed to the P4’s thirsty ‘six’. It offered some ground-breaking features for a car in its class, such as De Dion tube rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes – inboard at the rear. In terms of styling, too, it was bang up to date, and indeed still looked good after a few minor revisions when production ended in 1977. The ‘ultimate’ P6 is often said to be the V8-engined 3500, which was first offered in 1968 after Rover acquired the rights to the superb Buick-derived V8 engine from General Motors. Particularly in manual 3500S form – S here standing for ‘synchromesh’ – the P6 with this engine became a real driver’s car, with performance that still holds up well in 2021.This superb 1974 3500S was bought new by a Mr Pollard of Bristol. The car was supplied by MWM Motors in rare Paprika Red with Ebony leather upholstery, its £3,186.75 purchase price including a spare wheel mounting, Radiomobile 1095 unit and full ‘End Rust’ treatment. Mr Pollard was to own the car until his death in 1999, always having it MOT tested and maintained by MWM, with work carried out including new wings and a respray. The car passed to a family friend, who similarly cherished the car – indeed, it has been a regular attendee and award winner at car shows in the South West. Gunston & Kelly of Bristol took over MOT duties, and thus, remarkably, this car has only been MOT tested by two garages in its 47 years. With just three registered keepers in two families, detailed MOT history and continuous Bristol ownership from new, this P6 has excellent pedigree. The odometer stuck at 81,640 miles in 2017, but the car has only seen minimal usage since then. In very good all-round condition, and said to be running and driving well, this fine example of one of the most useable 70s classics comes with the aforementioned MOT history, owner’s manual, Radiomobile instructions, and a two-part Repair Operation Manual in its original British Leyland box.Estimate: £10,000 – 12,000
