LE MONNIER, Pierre Charles (1715-1799). Institutions Astronomiques, ou Lecons Elementaires d'Astronomie, pour servir d'Introduction a la Physique Celeste and a la Science des Longitudes. Paris: Chez Hippolyte-Louis Guerin & Jacques Guerin, 1746.4to (248 x 190 mm). 15 copperplate engraved folding plates. (Small pale spots to a few leaves.) Contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, edges sprinkled red, black morocco lettering-piece gilt (joints starting, some light wear). FIRST EDITION of Le Monnier's best-known work, the first important general manual of astronomy in France. The framework of the Institutions Astronomiques was essentially a translation of John Keill's Introduciton ad vera Astronomic (London, 1731), but Le Monnier included important additions and new tables of the sun and moon. CASSINI, Jacques (1677-1756). Elements d'Astronomie. Paris: Imprimerie Royale, 1740.4to (248 x 190 mm). 21 engraved folding plates. (Some very minor spotting, mostly marginal dampstaining to a few leaves.) Contemporary calf gilt, brown morocco lettering-piece gilt, edges stained red (joints starting, some light wear). While his observations yielded important results, his biases as a Copernican and not a Newtonian diminished their theoretical value.Selections from the Property of Dr. Eugene Vigil, Antiquariat BotanicumFor condition inquiries please contact lesliewinter@hindmanauctions.com

Originally limited to 1000, around 3800 were eventually produced, with 2500 made for the UK between 1996 and 1998. It is described as never having been restored and although it has been subject to paintwork, it retains all original panels and fittings. The car is unusual in having export type steering gear. Used sparingly, it has covered 1,000 miles since its last MoT issued in 2017. Comes with an original sales brochure, handbook, MoTs, current V5 and various documents. This 1997 20v Turbo was registered in October of that year, and shows just four keepers in total, with 56,868 miles recorded. The colour combination, of Metallic Green with a tan leather interior, is an especially striking one. Included in the history folder are the current V5C plus a previous one, MoTs back to 2001 (which help confirm the low mileage) as well as the current certificate valid to March 2022. There are various invoices dating back to the start of the 21st century. These jobs include a new cambelt, alternator and ABS pump in 2017 at 51,168 miles and a clutch during the same year at 56,115 miles. The service booklet is stamped up to 2007, after which there's paper documentation up to May 2017. There's also a selection of photos of the vehicle, plus various articles, parts lists and information sheets relating to the coupe. A spare key is included. Aside from some paintwork blemishes, including a few scratches, alloy corrosion on the door mirror mountings, and some cracked paint by the side of the nearside rear window, this Fiat Coupe is in good order. The attractive interior is particularly nicely preserved. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 27TH OCTOBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.

1998 Ford Scorpio Ultima 24V Auto EstateMake: Ford Model: Scorpio Ultima 24V Estate Year: 1998Mileage: 168074VIN: WF0NXXGAGNWY11249Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: R162PRETransmission: automatic In 24-valve Ultima form, this Scorpio was at the top of Ford's executive tree in 1998. The Ultima trim level was the highest one available, with a CD autochanger, climate control, leather seats, walnut veneer dash, cruise control, an automatically dimming mirror and electrically-operated seats as well as a variety of other enhancements over lesser models. The top-of-the-range Cosworth V6 engine gave 207bhp. With most of these flagship models being saloons, estates were comparatively rare. Rather fittingly, given that the Scorpio Ultima 24V could probably be regarded as the Rolls-Royce of Ford's line-up, this 1998 example was initially sold to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Crewe. The V5C is present, showing six former owners. Also in the paperwork file is the original document folder with owner's manual, engine immobilisation guide, audio instructions and service booklet, showing 14 stamps up to March 2011, at 123,358 miles. The MoT is valid until April 2022, and the certificate is included. There are past test certificates from 2016, 2017 and 2019. A check on the online MoT history for this Ford confirms the current recorded mileage of 168,075, in conjunction with the service history. A stack of invoices covers work done to the car up to 2016, including an automatic gearbox rebuild during that year at a cost of £2346 and a new radiator in 2016, at a cost of £387.60. A new battery was fitted in January 2019. The vendor describes the car as 'driving lovely and used daily', and it presents well, inside and out, in its smart metallic maroon shade. Some spares are included.
1978 Mercedes C123 230C Auto Make: Mercedes Model: 230 CWYear: 1978Mileage: 46335VIN: 12304322005473Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: NUI6828Transmission: automaticMercedes-Benz's smart and reliable W123 range encompassed saloons, coupes, estates and limousines. This silver 230C coupe was registered in July 1978 and sent new to Northern Ireland. There is a service booklet, but it was only stamped up to 22,699 miles in February 1980. There's also an owner's manual and other original MB documentation such as European and UK service guides. Other history is a little sparse; there are some Northern Ireland test certificates from 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992 and 2003 which do help support the low mileage reading of 46,335 - the mileage in 1986 was 37,100 while in 2003, it is recorded as 40,210. A couple of invoices record a new exhaust, along with a service, central locking repair, replacement temperature and petrol gauges, carburettor reconditioning and tune up in 2016. The V5C is present and records two former keepers. While the car has presumably received body work in the past, there are some areas, such as the bottoms of the inner door panels, that would benefit from further attention. 1973 Triumph Stag 3.0Make: Triumph Model: Stag Year: 1973Mileage: 78671VIN: LD301560Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: PHY64MTransmission: manualThe vendor acquired this 1973 Triumph Stag in January 2015, and it was treated to a full engine rebuild over 2016 and 2017, complete with a lead-free conversion, pressure testing of the head and block, and new liners. A four-core radiator, new water pump, and new clutch were also fitted, and the flywheel was refaced. The bills for all of this work, which run into the thousands, are included in the history folder. Since the rebuild, the vendor tells us that less than 1000 miles have been covered. The history folder includes the V5C, MoT certificates from 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, and a stack of invoices for the engine work plus other bills such as electronic ignition installation in 2015. In addition, there's the JVD radio/CD player instructions and owner's manual. The odometer reads 78,671 miles and six former registered keepers are noted. 1968 Morris Minor 1000Make: Morris Model: Minor Year: 1968Mileage: 59699VIN: MAS5D1201294MConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: JER470FTransmission: manualRegistered in February 1968, the vendor tells us that this Morris Minor, in white with black interior, was partly refurbished and resprayed in 2012, and had a reconditioned engine fitted in 2016. Further work involved a new floor being fitted on the driver's side in 2017, with a new carburettor in 2020, along with a new ignition system and battery. The odometer records the mileage as 59,699, although the vendor also reports that this hasn't worked in a long time, so the mileage is higher than stated. The car has only been used in during the summer months and stored during the winter; since lockdown, it has hardly been used at all. In the history folder, there's the current V5C plus a comprehensive paper record of servicing and parts replacement, the original registration of sale, driver's handbook, Cassell book of the Morris 1000 and a Haynes workshop manual. 1994 Suzuki Samurai Sport Make: Suzuki Model: Samurai SportYear: 1994Mileage: 0VIN: VSE0SJJ4D00135295Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: M733LYHTransmission: manualSuzuki's small but tough range of off-roaders, variously known as the Jimny and Samurai over the years, was introduced in 1970, with the second generation model (as here) being produced from 1981 to 1998. This 1298cc canvas soft-top example was built in 1994 but only imported from Germany and registered in this country in March 2002. Since then, it has five former registered keepers recorded while its MoT is valid until July 2022. The vehicle is fitted with a SPOA (Spring Perche Over Axle) kit, which raises the ride height for better ground clearance and the fitment of larger tyres if required. Included in the history folder is the V5C, current MoT certificate plus ones from 2002 (at 32,062 miles), 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2013. There's also a summary print-out of MoTs from 2006 to 2020. Also enclosed is the Pioneer radio/CD player instruction manual, vehicle information sheets, owner's handbook and service book with 11 stamps (albeit at irregular intervals later in the car's life), with the last one in July 2018 at 54,640 miles. The odometer records the present mileage as 55,087.

The V5C records two previous registered keepers, and there is an MoT valid until June 2022. The paperwork folder includes the V5C and recent invoices to rectify air conditioning and headlamp faults. The current MoT certificate is present, as are ones from 2020 and 2019. The odometer records 139,045km. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 3RD NOVEMBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.
1993 Volvo 240 SE EstateMake: VolvoModel: 240 SE EstateYear: 1993Mileage: 117867VIN: YV1245273P1962438Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: L528GJOTransmission: manualThis 1993 silver version of Volvo's definitive load-lugger was registered in August 1993, making it one of the last to be built - with the SE tag denoting a Special Equipment runout edition. The vendor believes that these 'last of the lines' were sold to Volvo agents, which may account for one of the three former registered keepers noted on the V5C. The car is a 1986cc fuel-injected model with five-speed manual gearbox, electric windows, electric door mirrors, power steering and heated blue cloth seats. Its odometer reading is 117,867 although the vendor tells us it stopped working in 2012. However, with its regular but limited use since then, he now estimates it's around the 150,000-mile mark. The present vendor has owned the car since January 2008, and there's a full history of all work done since then. These include an alternator repair in November 2020 (£118), a new exhaust, two silencers and two pipes in September 2019 (£243) and a clutch and bearing in August 2017 (£345). The MoT is valid until May 2022; advisories noted were that both headlamp reflectors were slightly defective and there was windscreen damage, albeit not affecting the view. This referred to a one-inch diameter crack low on the nearside. The car is in generally good condition (especially the interior) and drives well. Issues noted include the wires broken at the boot hinge, so the rear wiper, heated rear screen and hatch central locking don't work. There's some missing trim from the rear bumper, although the clips remain. Minor rust is appearing along the bottom of some of the doors as well as at the bottom of the rear offside wheel arch. Inside, the heater fan is noisy, which is presumed to be down to worn bearings meaning the fan is rubbing on the housing. Three pairs of keys are included, as well as a Haynes workshop manual and the radio code. The car is also fitted with a tow bar, for any extra loads that can't be swallowed by its very commodious rear. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 2ND NOVEMBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.

1983 Mercedes C123 230 CE Make: MercedesModel: 230 CE Year: 1983Mileage: 200466VIN: 12324320019553Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: GKF896YTransmission: automatic Introduced in 1977 as the two-door coupe version of the rugged W123 saloon, the C123 featured a shortened wheelbase and attractively redesigned upper section. The 230CE designation was used for the 134bhp Bosch fuel-injected 2299cc four-cylinder coupes, produced until 1985. This smart blue example (previously gold up until 2004) with grey striped cloth interior has a paperwork file that includes current and previous V5Cs, spare key and many bills dating back to late 1990s, testifying to lots of care, attention and diligent servicing over the years. There are also MoTs from 1997 to 2016 (when the last one was issued). The service book is stamped up to 127,210 miles and comes in the original plastic folder with the service guide, UK sales and service booklet, owner's manual and Alpine cassette radio guide. Aside from some bubbles at the bottom of the nearside front wing, this Mercedes is in very presentable order inside and out. The odometer reading is 200,466 miles. The car is recorded as a Category C insurance loss - vehicle extensively damaged but repairable; insurer decided not to repair - from June 1997. In very traditional black with red interior, this A35 was registered locally in Cambridge from new. It was retained by its first owner until 1984 and has remained registered to its second owner, a local coach firm, to this day. Described as a reliable runner that starts well. The vendor advises that since at least 1984 the car has been stored in a heated garage. The supporting documents include original owners insurance certificate dated 1982, driving licence, current V5, various MoTs dating from 1982 to the present and handbook. 1968 MG C GTMake: MGModel: C GTYear: 1968Mileage: 62450VIN: GCD11972Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: FHC101GTransmission: manualFinished in Snowberry White - a shade it has always been in - with black leather interior, the vendor tells us that over £5000 has been spent on this 1968 MGC GT over the last two years alone, with some of the modifications being a suspension upgrade, 3.09 differential, gas-flowed cylinder head, six-branch manifold and Revotec fan. The car was registered in December 1968 and six former registered keepers are noted on the V5C. The history folder is very extensive, spread over three files. There are copies of past V5s, details of previous owners, the Revotec fan instructions and various magazine features relevant to MGCs, plus MoT certificates from 2018 and 2017. As an historic vehicle, the MG is now MoT-exempt. The invoices date from 2021 back to around 2017 and testify to a lot of care, attention and expenditure. There's also a spare set of keys. The current odometer reading is 62,450 miles. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 3RD NOVEMBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.
1937 Humber 12 SaloonMake: Humber Model: 12Year: 1937Mileage: 80674VIN: 1225459Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: AC0 707 Transmission: manualThe Humber 12 was the forerunner of the immediate post-war Hawk series. It catered to an upper middle class clientele by offering a touch of luxury in a four-cylinder car that was still quite reasonably priced yet stylish, with what Rootes referred to as 'controlled streamlining'. This 1669cc black example was registered in May 1937, and while details on any work done to it over the years are sparse, the history file is nevertheless quite fascinating. It includes the current V5C, a 1930s' service parts catalogue plus other technical documentation - both original and photocopied - such as a service information on the Bendix-Stromberg carburettor. There's a well-preserved period brochure as well, plus 1970s' correspondence from Chrysler (which took over Humber) and a few photos of the vehicle at various points through its life. Especially nice for all those who prize period details is the original Humber-branded envelope for the owner's manual, which also contains the original manufacturer's guarantee, a 'quick start' guide showing the dashboard layout and a May 1937 personal letter from Humber's sales manager to the new owner. There's also a photograph from the Western Morning News showing an old couple with the car - we'll hazard a guess that it's the original owners reunited with it. There's evidence that this car has had quite the TV and film career too, with a 2013 call sheet for The Imitation Game movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, a 2014 one for Grantchester (ITV) and 2015 ones for Jekyll & Hyde (ITV) and Close to the Enemy (BBC). A Google search also reveals it's been in The Bletchley Circle, Churchill's Secret, Foyle's War and potentially the Oscar-winning The King's Speech too (albeit with a different numberplate) so whoever acquires this car can have a lot of fun spotting its on-screen appearances. Overall condition is good, although the paint is past its best in places on the body, and has cracked in some spots. The interior looks to have been retrimmed at some point, with the mid-brown leather and the wooden dashboard in very good order. The odometer records the mileage as 80,074 miles. 1992 Saab 900i 16v Convertible Make: SaabModel: 900i 16vYear: 1992Mileage: 132674VIN: YS3AC75DXN7013832Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: K966FPUTransmission: manualThe convertible version of Saab's stylish 900 appeared in 1986, eight years after the tin-top models had been launched. In all, al fresco versions made up just 48,888 of the 908,817 original generation Saab 900s. This is a 1985cc 900i 16-valve convertible registered in November 1992. According to the V5C, it has had 12 former keepers, with the odometer reading 132,674 miles, although this is unwarranted. The MoT is valid until March 2022. The paperwork file includes the current V5C plus a stack of receipts and invoices dating back to 2013. Recent items include a battery (June 2021), rear exhaust system (March 2021), catalytic convertor (October 2019), Bosch ECU (June 2017) and hood (October 2013, at a cost of £975). There are several MoT certificates from recent years. The car seems to have spent the period between 2007 and 2013 off the road, according to a gap in the MoT history. Finished in red with Saab's trademark three-spoke alloy wheels and a beige leather interior, the car presents very well. There is some minor rust at the bottom of the driver's door - a vulnerable area on all Saab 900s - and we believe the weatherproof strips are missing from the bottom of the windows on both doors. Otherwise, the bodywork and paint is in fine order and the hood close to excellent. A wind deflector is fitted behind the rear seats, and there's also a tonneau cover in the boot. Spare keys are also included. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 7TH OCTOBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.
