A Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day Date Chronometer, 1987, 18ct gold, Serial No. R221334, Model No. 18038, 36mm diameter case, the gold dial with gold baton numerals, day and date windows, on conforming 18ct gold bracelet, with box, external box and some paperwork, gross weight 142gCondition Report - The watch is in excellent condition, showing wear commensurate with light use only. There is a small chip to the 1 o'clock position on the crystal. The dial and hands are unmarked. The watch winds, runs, sets and functions but should be regarded as untested. The bracelet shows little or no sign of wear and is in excellent overall condition with the fliplock mechanism functioning correctly. The button is original and contemporary to the watch. The box is original, with outer box and suede pouch, however no paperwork is present other than the manufacturers manual and wax seal. Overall an excellent example.
1989 Yamaha XTZ 750 Super TenereReg. no. F198 THYFrame no. 3LD004750Engine no. 3LD004750Late to the Paris Dakar replica party, Yamaha arrived with what would turn out to be one of the best bikes in the group. It was built around the all new five valve parallel twin that proved to be a flexible, punchy unit that certainly gave the Honda Africa Twin a run for its money.After spending its first 12 years overseas, this example was imported into the UK in 2002 from where its extensive history file starts. The bike has recently been subject to a general overhaul starting at the rear end with the brakes, tyres, wheels etc. and moving forward, the engine has been checked and the carbs cleaned. At the front end the callipers were stripped ready to be rebuilt but unfortunately the project was put on hold and not finished. This bike appears to have been very well looked after, the paintwork and panels are in excellent condition and the owner believes that apart from a new battery, some brake caliper parts, putting the panel work and other pieces that are all present back on, there is little to do to bring this bike back to its former glory.Comes with – a current V5C, the original owner’s manual, MOT records from 2002 to 2018, some old tax discs, various receipts and the service information sheets.
1999 BMW 840Ci Sport Individual to Alpina Specification Transmission: automaticMileage:117261When the Klaus Kapitza designed 8 Series was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989, it felt like a glimpse into the future with its angular styling. The 8 Series was offered in 840 and 850 form and, when introduced in mid-1993, it was fitted with a four litre, V8 engine mated to either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. Producing a very healthy 282bhp, this version could achieve the 0-62mph sprint in an impressive 6.9 seconds; importantly with the naturally aspirated V8, acceleration was effortless and refined. From mid-1995, production phased in the newer 4.4 litre M62B44 engine, which had better fuel economy and more torque, though power output remained unchanged.Offered here is a superb looking 840ci Sport that has been fitted with various Alpina upgrades and is presented in very rare Violet Blue coachwork. Fitted with a Parrot phone system and a sports exhaust, the vendor reports that this BMW runs and drives very well indeed and sounds fantastic when on song. 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Convertible Transmission: manualMileage:12754The Mercedes-Benz W111 was produced from 1959 to 1968 and was the chassis code given to its top-range vehicles, with two-door coupés and cabriolets being produced from 1961 to 1971. Design of a replacement for the two-door Pontons began in 1957 as most of the chassis and drivetrain were to be unified with the saloon with the emphasis on the exterior styling. Production began in late 1960 and in February of the next year the coupé was premiered in Stuttgart for the 75th anniversary of the opening of Mercedes-Benz Museum. The convertible followed at the Frankfurt Motor Show a few months later; the car was almost identical to the coupé with the soft-top roof folded into a recess behind the rear seat and covered by a tightly fitting bag. Unlike the previous generation of two-door ponton series, there was only one model for the two-door vehicle, the 220SE on both versions, with the identical 2195cc engine.This excellent example was registered in April 1964. Described as being in good mechanical order, this Mercedes has recently passed an MoT test in spite of being exempt by virtue of its age. This 220SE cabriolet is finished in blue black metallic and has been retrimmed in dark blue. 1969 Wolseley 1300 Mk. II Transmission: manualMileage:47134Alec Issigonis will be best remembered for the Mini and the Morris Minor, but arguably one of his greatest successes was ADO16, the BMC/British Leyland family saloon of the 1960s and 1970s, with its incredibly spacious interior within compact overall dimensions, its superb fluid cushion ride and its mix of models from bargain Austin and Morris through sophisticated Wolseley, gentlemanly Riley, sporting MG and 1300GT, and toff’s Vanden Plas Princess.This 1300 Mk. II is an example of what is considered the best of the Wolseley ADO16 with more luxurious trim, twin carbs, wood dash and a distinctive strip speedometer. Presented with a Sand bodywork and complementary trim, this 50 year old car boasts its original chrome and paint in good order due to the fact it has been garaged and used sparingly its entire life, indeed a hark back to times when the family car was the most treasured of assets. The interior includes Britax Auto-Lok (inertia reel) seat belts and is stunning and even the driver’s seat barely looks used. The veneered wood dash still has its, as-new, gloss and the distinctive strip speedometer, so much a feature of the ADO16 and looks like new. 1992 Lancia Hyena Zagato Transmission: manualMileage:23000The Hyena was built on the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo 1 and was designed to be a limited-run production coupe paying tribute to the Delta and its phenomenal competition success. In the early 1990’s, Holland based Lusso Service, inspired by the peak of Zagato’s collaboration with Lancia in the 1960’s, decided to create something that would rekindle that collaboration. The brief was to design a two-door coupé incorporating Zagato’s ‘double-bubble’ roof and was completed by Marco Pedracini of the Zagato Style Centre and unveiled at the 1992 Brussels motor show.Initially there were plans to build around 500 examples, but this was quickly adjusted to 75, with only 25 Hyena’s completed due to unexpectedly high production costs. The manufacturing was incredibly expensive, 25 Delta’s were purchased and shipped to Holland where the body and interiors were removed. Next, the cars were sent to Zagato in Milan, Italy to be fitted with new aluminium coupé bodies before returning to Holland where Lusso Service completed the assembly. This manufacturing process led to a price of over $75,000!The Hyena weighed 1,150kgs, 15% lighter than the production Delta Integrale, whilst retaining it’s 1,995 cc engine, five-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive system, resulting in a rapid 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds!This Hyena was manufactured in 1992 but due to the high price tag and lack of demand when new, remained stored until 2001 unregistered. When collector interest began to grow it was imported by Walkers to the UK with the odometer showing just 102 kilometres. Still awaiting its first owner the car was offered to our vendor who was taken by the Zagato styling and limited production thus purchased this example and has owned ever since as the first private owner. In our vendors tenure the car has been dry stored and used sparingly with only 34,000 now shown - circa 23,000 miles from new. In Hyena circles this example is indeed a well-known car, featured in Auto Italia magazine as the cover car in Viva Lancia, this car attended the Lancia centenary celebrations in Turin and was entered into the concourse event eventually being awarded one of the best in show with 10 invited onto the podium. 1927 AC 6 Aceca Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:77500Although AC’s reputation was established by John Weller’s famous overhead-camshaft six fitted to this example, its early offerings relied on proprietary four-cylinder engines. The AC chassis featured quarter-elliptic springing front and rear, a three-speed gearbox in unit with the rear axle and worm final drive. Front wheel brakes were optional at first, standard issue from 1927. Rated at 12hp for taxation purposes the four-cylinder AC remained in production until 1926, the firm relying exclusively on the Weller 15.7hp six thereafter.This lovely highly original example has been in the same family ownership for over 60 years and is presented in beige/black with brown leather interior, which is pleasantly patinated. In running condition, this wonderful coupé can boast the fact that all its controls and gauges are functioning including the clock, which is rare with cars of this age. Its six cylinder engine is mated to a three speed gearbox integral with the rear axle. The brake system is rod operated with fitted front brakes as an option. It has rear chassis and wing steps which provide the access to the ‘dicky’ seat to the rear, it has wind down side windows, ‘pull over’ hood with easy peg fixings on windscreen top rail (the hood could do with some attention).The car has been re-wired with armour cable incorporating a master battery isolation switch, and its rear mounted fuel tank with gauge, connects to a fuel line filter which in turn connects to a scuttle mounted Autovac. It also comes with an original ‘hints for owners’ handbook in well used condition although the present owner has compiled some technical manuals for ‘power train’, ‘body and chassis’ and ‘general’ which are so useful. 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:68562Introduced in 1962, Alfa Romeo's 106 Series 2600 range was a direct replacement for the preceding 102 Series 2000 cars. The latter's chassis design and body styles were retained, with minor revisions and improvements, but in place of the old, long-stroke, 2.0 litre, four-cylinder engine was a new, 2584cc, twin-cam six clearly descended from the immensely successful Giulietta. A maximum output of 145bhp was claimed for this unit when installed in the Sprint Coupé and Spider, good enough for a top speed of around 200kmh, and Cars Illustrated magazine reckoned this magnificent power unit ‘one of the smoothest, quietest running sixes, irrespective of the speed at which it is running’. Carrozzerias Touring and Bertone were responsible for the 2600 Spider and Sprint Coupé respectively; both of which looked like their 2000 predecessors. First registered on 18th October 1965, this late model 2600 Sprint presents very well in metallic blue. Having benefitted from a photo documented, ground up restoration some years ago, in 2018, the car enjoyed significant expenditure on its mechanics, including a full engine rebuild, an upgrade to triple Weber carburettors, along with a new clutch and radiator. Whilst at Tipton Garage in Devon - who carried out most of the service work in recent years including the engine rebuild - a new set of Michelin X tyres were also fitted to the car. Out of the 6,999 2600 Sprints Alfa Romeo produced, only 596 of them were supplied in right hand drive making this car a rare example. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well and his love for it can be seen in the history file where, apart from the many receipts for work carried out, photos, brochures etc, the vendor also kept a diary of his usage with notes about the car which he is only selling now due to his age and becoming unable to use it as much.Supplied with its V5C registration document, original brochure, usage diary, impressive history file and photos of the car during its ground up restoration and at shows. 2009 Secma F16 Transmission: manualMileage:5853The Secma F16 is a 1598cc rear engine micro sports car which offers exciting driving on the road or on a track. It was unveiled in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show and is powered by a 1.6 four-cylinder Renault engine that propels it to 60 mph in a mere 5.9 seconds. This little ‘pocket rocket’ is rear-wheel drive and features a five-speed manual transmission which is also sourced from Renault. With its open top (with a hood) it provides the occupants with great open motoring and with its weight distribution being 60/40, it feels more like a Porsche on the road. With its design resembling more like a beech buggy, which it couldn’t be further away from; its unique looks and lively engine make this a wonderful fun run-around.This example is presented in red with black interior and is powered by the aforementioned power plant from Renault. 1995 Ferrari F355 Spider Transmission: manualMileage:41897Manufactured from May 1994 to 1999, the Ferrari F355 was an evolution of the Ferrari 348. It is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive, V8 powered two seat coupé. At launch, two models were available; the coupé Berlinetta and the Targa topped GTS. The Spider (convertible) version was introduced in 1995. One major difference between the longitudinal V8 in the 348 and that in the 355, apart from the displacement increase from 3.4 to 3.5 litres, is that the F355 features a five valve per cylinder head that is considerably more powerful, producing 375bhp. The nomenclature does not follow the formula from the previous decades, i.e. engine capacity plus cylinder number for example, the Ferrari 308 name comes from three litres plus eight cylinders, with the same for the 328, 348, 512 etc. This time, Ferrari used engine capacity plus number of valves per cylinder; proud to boast about this technological advancement, with the name 355 coming from 3.5 litres engine capacity and five valves per cylinder. The F355 has become the most popular model so far with over 11,273 cars produced.This lovely low mileage example presents very well and is finished in the rare coachwork of Swaters Blue complemented by its tan leather interior. The discerning will no doubt note that this has the desirable manual gearbox powered by the 3496cc V8 engine fitted with the Bosch Motronic fuel injection. Reassuringly at 40,073 miles, a cambelt service was carried out. This example is in very good order throughout having been imported from Newport, California at the beginning of 2018 by the current vendor. UK lights have been fitted to conform with UK regulations and the history file includes an original toolkit, service book with many Ferrari main dealer service stamps, and UK V5C registration document. 1969 Marcos 1600GT Transmission: manualMileage:89131In 1966 the Marcos GT changed from using the expensive Volvo 1800cc unit to more affordable Ford 1500cc and 1600cc ones. The glass fibre bodied Marcos 1800 GT had been a sensation when first shown at the 1964 Racing Car Show. This was to be the design that would become familiar to sports car enthusiasts for more than 30 years, even though the original plywood chassis would later be replaced by a steel chassis and the futuristic scalloped dashboard also vanished after a few years. The plywood chassis was glued together from 386 separate pieces and was not only light and strong, but also required a minimum up front investment to construct. The extremely low Marcos required a nearly supine driving position and fixed seats, mounted lower than the floor of the car. In return, the entire pedal set could be moved fore and aft with a knob on the dashboard.Without a doubt, simply the best 1600GT we have ever seen. The supplied Marcos heritage records and correspondence in the impressive history file shows this beautiful Marcos was first supplied to Franco Paulo Pizzalon Esq. of Mountsorrel, Leicester on Monday 30th December 1968 having been ordered just a couple of months earlier on 5th November 1968. Ordered new in the same colours it still sports of Porsche Orange with black trim, the car was lovingly restored after the vendor acquired the car in 2013. Painted to a high standard, it looks as if the car has been painted much more recently. The interior was also completely retrimmed by Auto Lounge in Buckinghamshire and the car sits on a set of very rare period magnesium Minilites.First registered on 6th January 1969, the car was clearly loved and used a lot. The file shows a record of various maintenance work carried out throughout its early life. At some point between 1972 and 1975 the Ford crossflow unit was swapped for a Lotus Twin cam engine. Indeed, the original advert and the engine’s specification are included in the history file. It shows that the twin cam was built to a high specification with a ported and polished Mk. 2 head, steel main caps, competition bearings, Tufrided crank and flywheel, Powermax pistons and more. A unique period modification which makes perfect sense to the ethos of the Marcos brand. The car truly does present incredibly well and is reported to run and drive just as well.The car is supplied with its UK V5C registration document showing only 3 former keepers -the first two being Mr. Pizzalon and his son and the third, a friend of theirs. The vendor bought the car in 2013 and started the full restoration from there. 1989 Porsche 928 GT Transmission: manualMileage:141944Critics immediately recognised the advances inherent in the 928 over the 911 and it was universally praised as one of the greatest GT cars of all time. It handled, it was quick, it looked fantastic, and it was comfortable. With the 928, Porsche created a serious long-distance grand-touring car that could also tackle twisting B roads with ease thanks to super direct steering, fifty-fifty weight distribution and a clever Weissach rear axle that kept the car firmly planted. Many road testers found that their nerve ran out long before the 928’s grip. Porsche continuously developed the 928 throughout its production life, culminating with the launch of the S4 in 1987 which differed slightly from the earlier cars with its smoothed-off front and rear bumpers, larger rear spoiler, more interior equipment, and a five-litre version of the V8 engine developing 316bhp. 1989 saw further development with the launch of the GT model, featuring a more powerful five-litre engine creating 326bhp, but more importantly, the introduction of a five-speed manual gearbox for those who wanted a sportier driving experience.This well-presented example is offered in beautiful Guards Red coachwork and has been maintained to a high standard throughout its life. The vendor reports that the five-litre, 316bhp, engine sounds fantastic when on song while the manual gearbox performs well. 1934 MG PA Transmission: manualMileage:893The MG P-Type was manufactured from 1934 to 1936. This two-door sports car used an updated version of the overhead camshaft, crossflow engine used in the 1928 Morris Minor and Wolseley 10 and previously fitted in the J-Type Midget of 1932 to 1934. The chassis was a strengthened and slightly longer version of that used in the J-Type with suspension by half-elliptic springs all round as well as rigid front and rear axles. The most significant improvement, however, was that the crankshaft main bearings were increased from two to three. The top-end was a carry-over with a cross-flow cylinder head and a single overhead camshaft. Most cars were open two-seaters although some streamlined ‘Airline Coupé' bodies were also made. The P-Type was also available as a four-seater, a car that, unfortunately, suffered from a lack of power and poor rear ground clearance. Around 2,000 MG PA’s were produced and in 1935 a new PA open seat tourer cost £222.Manufactured in 1934, this MG PA presents in good order throughout, the car started immediately when requested and the engine ran very smoothly with no adverse rattles or noises. 1975 Jensen Interceptor Mk. III Transmission: automaticMileage:41319The Jensen Interceptor was launched in 1966 and the all steel bodyshell broke away from the company's traditional method of construction that used GRP (glass reinforced plastic). Designed by Carrozzeria Touring, the early cars were built by Vignale before production eventually was carried out at the Jensen works in West Bromwich. Power was delivered by the Chrysler 6276cc, V8 through a TorqueFlite automatic transmission and final drive being a Salisbury axle with limited slip differential. A manual gearbox was offered as an option. 1968 saw the addition of power steering and, in 1969, the Mk. II was introduced with detail upgrades that included a revised front end and ventilated disc brakes. 1971 saw the introduction of the Mk. III; the engine size was increased to 7212cc and, it was at this time, the most powerful engine Jensen had produced. The imposing presence, power and distinctive shape that included the wrap around glass rear hatch drew the rich and famous to the marque. 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:62395The E-Type Series III was introduced in 1971, with a new 5.3 litre, V12 engine, uprated brakes and standard power steering. Optionally, an automatic transmission, wire wheels and air conditioning were available. The brand new V12 engine came with four Zenith carburettors and was claimed to produce 272bhp, more torque, and a 0-60mph acceleration of less than seven seconds, which was phenomenal for the price of the car at that time, considering its competition in the market place. The short wheelbase fixedhead coupé body style was discontinued, with the Series III available only as a convertible and 2+2 coupé. The newly used longer wheelbase now offered significantly more room in all directions. These models were easily identifiable by the large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, wider tyres, four exhaust tips and a badge on the rear that proclaims it to be a V12. It is thought that only 7,990 convertibles and 7,297 fixedhead cars were produced.This superb right hand drive Jaguar spent many years of its life on Guernsey. 1968 Volvo P1800S Transmission: manualMileage:69500In December 1957, the first handbuilt P1800 prototype was driven to the headquarters of Karmann. Volvo had hoped that Karmann would be able to take on the tooling and building of the P1800 and they were ready to build it which meant that the first cars could hit the market as early as December 1958. But in February, Karmann's most important customer, Volkswagen, forbade Karmann to take on the job as they feared that the P1800 would compete with the sales of their own cars and threatened to cancel all their contracts if they took it on. This setback almost caused the project to be abandoned and it looked doomed until a press release surfaced with a photo of the car, putting Volvo in a position where they had to acknowledge its existence. These events influenced the company to renew its efforts with the car and it was presented to the public for the first time at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1960. Volvo turned to Jensen Motors, whose production lines were under-utilised and they agreed a contract for 10,000 cars.This elegant example has recently been repainted and presents in dark green with a superb new beige interior, including dashboard, carpets and upholstery. 1960 Jensen 541R Transmission: manualMileage:60043At the start of the 1950's, Jensen had a sound commercial vehicle business providing bread and butter income and an exclusive car business making expensive Interceptor touring cars. The bodywork was mostly aluminium but as an experiment, Jensen had started making the large boot lids in a revolutionary material formed from hair-thin glass embedded in a resinous gel; glass fibre. The body was designed by Eric Neale in conjunction with Richard Jensen. First, he created the distinctive 'mouth' shape and the rest of the body flowed back from that point. A lattice of wooden body formers provided a reference over which skilled craftsmen beat a skin of aluminium. The finished car was exhibited at the 1953 Motor Show but there was one trick left up Jensen's sleeve; production cars were to be constructed of glass fibre. The first few production cars are just known as the 541. As production increased, the options available increased and a package incorporating the best extras was applied to the car marketed as the '541 Deluxe'. Rack and pinion steering was the latest innovation and was marketed as the 541R. The body changed at the same time with striking curves or strakes being added. These appeared over the rear wheel arches and on the bonnet leading to an air vent. In 1959, work started on creating a slightly larger 541, which would be better suited to long-distance cruising.Registered new on 20th July 1960, this UK supplied right hand drive example is the desirable and rare ‘R’ derivative. This Jensen has been laid up in a barn for many years and as such is offered as a full restoration project. Under the layers of dust its clear to see that this 541R is largely original, the two-tone red and white coachwork is still rather presentable as is the interior. Even the small independent carmaker, Nash Motors, began selling a two-seater sports car in 1951. Earl convinced GM that they also needed to build a two-seat sports car. Earl and his 'special projects' crew began working on the new car later that year which was code named 'Opel'. The result was the 1953 Corvette, which took its name from a small, manoeuvrable fighting frigate and was unveiled to the public at that years Motorama Car Show.Presented in iconic red with red inserts, this splendid C1 was fully restored in the US before our enthusiastic owner took delivery in early 2017. 1966 Triumph TR4A IRS (Surrey Top) Transmission: manualMileage:49438Produced between 1961 and 1967, the Triumph TR4 combined a new, modern, and aggressive body design by famed Italian stylist, Giovanni Michelotti, with the basic chassis of the previous TR3A. The TR4 also improved passenger comfort with wind-up windows, face-level ventilation, and an optional hardtop. When equipped with the optional overdrive, the TR4 was good for a top speed of almost 110mph. Following on from the TR4, the new TR4A was phased in smoothly at the beginning of 1965 and introduced an all-new independent rear suspension system (IRS), which provided exceptional rear-wheel camber control with excellent wheel travel while softer springs improved the ride quality. Having six universal joints, three propshafts and two trailing arms, the system was appreciatively more expensive than the previous live axle arrangement (dealers in the US reacted uncomfortably to the new design on cost grounds; to appease them, Triumph built the TR4A in two forms, one with a live axle primarily for the US and the TR4A IRS for other markets where the price was less sensitive). The press was happy to see an all-independent car, and Triumph was pleased to be the first British car manufacturer to have all-independent suspensions under every car in their line-up. At the Sebring 12 Hours in 1966, ample proof of the validity of the IRS was provided when three IRS-equipped TR4As achieved a remarkable 1-2-3 class victory.Manufactured on 4th May 1966 and distributed to H.A. Browett & Co. Ltd in Leicester, this Triumph was then registered on 17th May 1966 and presents in the delightful colour combination of Signal Red with black interior. Sitting proudly on wire wheels this has clearly been a very well cared for vehicle and comes with a superb history folder. 2001 Jaguar X-Type Transmission: automaticMileage:22500The X-Type, codenamed X400, was launched in 2001 to compete in the compact executive class dominated by the rear-wheel drive BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class despite Jaguar having no directly competitive platform. Instead, the X-Type used a modified version of the front-drive Ford CD132 platform shared with the contemporary Ford Mondeo with the addition of all-wheel drive and handling and steering engineered to minimise front-wheel drive torque-steer. Initially, the X-Type was available only with all wheel drive, using a centre differential with a default split of 60% torque to the rear wheels, 40% to the front wheels. Engines included either of two V6 petrol engines: 2.5 litre or 3.0 litre. In 2002, an entry level 2.1 litre V6 front wheel drive model was added. All three engines were available with either five- speed automatic or five-speed manual gearboxes. This lovely example is presented in metallic blue with cream trim has covered a remarkably low 22,500 miles and has just three previous keepers, the first owner having the car until August 2020. 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220S Ponton Transmission: manualMileage:41584The Mercedes-Benz 220A was succeeded in March 1956 by the 220S saloon which was externally almost identical but had an upgraded version of the six cylinder, 2195cc engine giving 99hp which was later increased to 106hp due to the use of twin carburettors. Introduced in 1956, the 220S saloon was one of a trio of new models featuring unitary construction bodyshells employing large, box-section side members, hence the term 'Ponton'; the others being the 190 and 219. All round coil-sprung independent suspension had long been a fixture of the Mercedes-Benz range and that of the newcomers benefitted from the newly developed single pivot rear swing axle. Short-wheelbase coupé and cabriolet versions of the 220S soon followed. Visually, the 220S featured a new one-piece front bumper instead of the three-piece bumper used on the 220A. Also, the twin chrome and rubber strips running under the doors of the 220A were replaced with solid chrome strips.This delightful 220S Ponton, offered in black with a red leather interior, was delivered originally to South Africa. In right hand drive format, this Mercedes-Benz example was purchased from its original owner and then shipped to Germany in 1990. Whilst in Germany, the Ponton was restored between 1991 and 1992 with the bodyshell coated in zinc prior to painting. Most of the restoration, we are led to believe, was with an ex-Mercedes-Benz engineer; the engine was subsequently overhauled by Mercedes-Benz AG of Neu-Ulm in 1996. 1946 Citroën Light 15 Transmission: manualMileage:81531The Citroën Traction Avant was manufactured from 1934 to 1957. The Traction Avant, French for 'front-wheel drive', was designed by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni in late 1933. While not the first produced front-wheel drive car, it was the world's first front-wheel drive steel monocoque production car and successfully pioneered front-wheel drive on the European mass car market. This method of construction was viewed with great suspicion in many quarters, with doubts about its strength, an unusual type of crash test was conceived taking the form of driving the car off a cliff to demonstrate its strength. Left hand drive versions were built in Paris, Belgium and Denmark, right hand drive cars were built in Slough, England. The Slough version was called the Light 15 and the long wheelbase the Big 15. This confusing terminology referred to the British fiscal tax rating of the time which was higher than the French. Models assembled in Slough had to be 51% UK parts to make them exempt from import duty, to protect the British vehicle manufacturers from foreign competition. The Slough built cars used 12 Volt Lucas electrics, headlights, dynamo and starter motor with Jaeger instruments and a walnut dashboard.First registered on 5th November 1946 to an owner in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, this car was built in the first year of Slough production and retains its original number plate. This is also the more desirable specification Citroën Light with the added benefit of being a ‘small boot’ car. The car presents well in black with contrasting trim and a good woodwork dash and is reported by the vendor to run and drive very well. 1959 Jaguar XK150 Roadster (3.4 litre) Transmission: manualMileage:171Spring of 1957 would turn out to be the final glorious incarnation of Jaguar’s fabulous ‘XK’ series of sports cars. The XK150, lightly re styled with its newly fitted Dunlop disc brakes and other minor upgrades. First available only in fixed head and drophead coupé forms, the newcomer retained the same basic chassis, 3.4-litre engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors but was improved with a restyled, roomier body with a higher front wing line, single-piece wrap-around windscreen, and broader radiator grille. A wider body would also facilitate a single-piece wrap-around windscreen replacing the divided screen.This very well presented example is one of the best we have seen and was delivered new to Jaguar Cars New York in May 1958. More recently been repatriated to the UK where a comprehensive restoration was undertaken. The matching numbers engine was rebuilt and the brightwork has been re-chromed along with a new set of wire wheels. The interior too has been retrimmed to a very high standard in blue, and the body was treated to a bare metal respray in a fabulous shade of ivory. In superb order this XK150 is ready for a new custodian and is offered with many invoices detailing the restoration, which totalled over £50,000, the UK registration document, and the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. 1956 Maserati 450S Recreation Transmission: manualMileage:The Maserati 450S was made for participating in FIA's endurance World Sportscar Championship racing with a total of just nine produced. Development of the 450S started in 1954 under the codename Tipo 54 led by Vittorio Bellentani and Guido Taddeucci. Their intent was to use larger engines than those already in use by Maserati. The initial development began with the engine, which was a 4477cc short-stroke V8 with four 45 IDM Weber carburettors mounted between the Vee rated at 400bhp. The Tipo 54 project was shelved in 1955 after a catastrophic crash at Le Mans. In early 1956, Tony Parravano, a wealthy American housing developer, commissioned Maserati to build a new large-bore V8 engine for use in a Kurtis Indy chassis. The car had an open top body designed by Medardo Fantuzzi resembling the 300S. The 4.5 litre V8 engine of the 450S was the largest racing engine developed by Maserati. The prototype made its racing debut at the 1956 Swedish Grand Prix, with the chassis being renumbered as 4501. The chassis proved unable to handle the power output of the V8 hampering the performance of the car so it was sent back to the factory where a purpose-built chassis having the same number as the prototype was constructed. 4501 was later entered at the 1957 Buenos Aires 1000km driven by Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, before being redesigned as a coupé by Frank Costin of England, constructed by Zagato, and raced once again by Moss at Le Mans. The 405S Maserati’s were raced competitively at the world’s most prestigious race events throughout the 1950’s by Fangio, Jean Behra, Moss and Harry Schell to name but a few. This stunning recreation of the iconic 450S is a remarkable, lightweight, aluminium coachbuilt example crafted by Bob Ford and finished in Rosso Red paintwork complemented by black leather trim with a quilted transmission tunnel and door cards. The car has clearly been very well appointed and, boasting a rebuilt 305ci 5.0 litre Chevrolet V8, sounds the part as well, offering up suitable power to propel it swiftly past the legal speed limits while turning heads wherever it goes. The build included work by March Engineering on a donor Daimler chassis in 1984 (the V5C date of registration) and the car has covered less than 4,000 miles since and been in the hands of only a few enthusiastic owners. We are informed it is a beautiful car to drive with balanced handling together with the ample performance. 1961 Saab 96 FIA race/rally car Transmission: manualMileage:67060Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolaget: the acronym SAAB leaves no doubt about the vocation of the company that, before IKEA, taught us how to appreciate the pragmatic creativity of the Swedes. The Swedish engineers wisely focused on a simple, light, affordable and reliable product: a small vehicle that used a light weight and aerodynamics to make up for the lack of horsepower, built on a simple chassis frame with a two-door body style in which anything superfluous has been eliminated. ‘Lateral thinking’ was also applied to the engine; given that the best car engine was a six-cylinder with medium-high displacement and considering that the SAAB would not have been able to cope with the bulk, weight and cost, the engineers decided to install a two stroke three-cylinder engine! The greater simplicity and absence of vibration, with the high specific power, made it a perfect alternative for anyone ready to look beyond the conventional. These characteristics also made it possible to use the 96 in competitions and, above all, in rallies, a specialty long dominated by Scandinavian drivers - the most famous SAAB driver possibly being Erik Carlsson.Originally built in 1960, this Saab 96 wasn’t road registered until 1961. Having spent most of its life as a standard road car, the decision was taken in the early 2000’s to convert it into a Group 2 race car. The accompanying substantial history file shows many pictures, race programs and notes, (in Swedish) from its racing career in Sweden. In 2007 the car was purchased and imported to the UK where it was modified to fit in with the FIA CT1 Competition Touring Car Class. Invoices for various preparation work carried out are included in the file and show several thousand pounds spent with renowned single seater specialist Mark Linstone. 1965 David Brown 770 Selectamatic Transmission: manualMileage:Probably better known for his ownership of Aston Martin from 1947 to 1972, David Brown become M.D. of the family business, David Brown Gear Company Ltd in 1931. He turned to tractor manufacturing in 1936 in collaboration with Harry Ferguson, manufacturing the Ferguson-Brown tractor in West Yorkshire. The company broke new ground which others were only to follow later, but being a pioneering company ultimately led to its downfall. The Ferguson-Brown had many innovative features, including the use of cast alloy for many components which was light but prone to damage. David Brown Ltd became one of the largest manufacturers of tractors, however the owner’s continued subsidisation of Aston Martin was unsustainable, and the sports car maker was sold in 1972. The tractor division was purchased by Tenneco International and re-badged the product as ‘Case’.Manufactured in 1965, this 770 Selectamatic tractor is thought to have spent its early life working on farms in the North of England. It was restored to a good standard throughout 2013 and 2014 by its then owner who had owned this David Brown for circa 28 years at that stage. It was then sold to the current vendor in 2015 who has used it sparingly throughout his ownership. Being a tractor enthusiast and owning several David Browns he has always ensured this 770 has continued to be well cared for; it has a new battery and started on the button during our visit. 1928 Humber 9/20HP Saloon Transmission: manualMileage:14249Founded as a bicycle maker in 1868, Humber later became associated with Harry Lawson’s British Motor Syndicate, from which it purchased rights to various unlikely automobiles. Freeing itself from Lawson, the reconstituted company commenced motor car production in 1900 with the M D Voiturette, a front wheel drive, rear-wheel steered car. A more conventional range of shaft driven De Dion powered light cars soon followed. Four-cylinder 12hp and 20hp, designed by Louis Coatalen, had been added by 1903 but that year’s most significant introduction was the Humberette, powered by a 5hp single-cylinder engine, it was the first Humber motor car to be produced in significant numbers. 1923 was an important year for Humber, marking as it did the adoption across the range of a new inlet over exhaust engines, replacing the side valve units and the introduction of a new luxury small car, the 985cc 8hp (later called the 8/18hp). After returning to the road in 1993 it was used in a number of navigational rallies and found that it cruises at 40-45mph, gets 30mpg and completes 30 miles in the hour on cross country journeys. 2020 Ford GT40 Mk. I Evocation by Southern GT Transmission: manualMileage:188The Ford GT40 is synonymous with Le Mans but was first seen at the Nürburgring in May 1964. The Mk. I was the original Ford GT40 but met little success in its initial tune for the 1964 and 1965 Le Mans races. The first success came after their demise at the Nassau Speed Weekend in November 1964 when the racing was handed over to Carrol Shelby. Shelby's team modified the Ford GT40 and the first win at Daytona February 1965 was achieved. 31 Mk. I examples were built at the Slough factory in ‘road’ trim, which differed little from the race versions. Wire wheels, carpet, ruched fabric map pockets in the doors and a cigarette lighter made up most of the changes.Registered new on 1st December 2020, this Superb Mk. I Southern GT has been meticulously constructed in recent years and has covered less than 500 miles since the build. Finished in the classic GT40 livery of Midnight Blue coachwork with white stripes, this example looks superb! The interior too is very well presented and includes Luke five-point harness seatbelts, Smiths Instruments, a 12 Volt socket, air conditioning, immobiliser, and a heated windscreen. 1972 Lancia Fulvia Series 2 1.3 S Transmission: manualMileage:60078The Lancia Fulvia was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963 with production running all the way through to 1976. The Fulvia is notable for its role in motor racing history, including winning the International Rally Championship in 1972. On testing it in 1967, Road and Track summed up the Fulvia as ‘a precision motorcar, an engineering tour de force’. The Fulvia Berlina was designed by Antonio Fessia to replace the Lancia Appia with which it shared almost no components. The Appia was a rear wheel drive car, however, the Fulvia moved to front wheel drive like the Flavia. The general engineering design of the Fulvia was identical to that of the Flavia with the major exception of the engine; the Flavia having a four cylinder horizontally opposed engine and the Fulvia a 'narrow angle' vee configuration as featured on most production Lancias. The Fulvia used a longitudinal engine mounted in front of its transaxle. An independent suspension in front, used wishbones and a single leaf spring, while a solid axle with a panhard rod and leaf springs were used in the rear. Four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes were fitted to the first series Fulvia. With the introduction of the second series in 1970, the brakes were uprated with larger Girling calipers all round and a brake servo.This nice example originated in South Africa and was imported to the UK in July 1975 when it shows its first registration on these shores according to the V5C. It is presented in Grigio Patrizi Metallic (grey/silver metallic) with a black interior including HF front seats and interior styling. It sports a wooden HF steering wheel and in 2010 this Lancia was restored by Classic Lancia Restorations to ‘1600 HF specifications’ including 14X6J Cromadora wheels painted in gold which looks stunning. The 'Continental' designation recalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period. The 'R' resonates to the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950s as well as the Turbo R of the 1980s. 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300 GEL Transmission: automaticMileage:126000The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagon, short for Geländewagen (cross-country vehicle), is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature. The G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz vehicles in their history with a span of 32 years. It was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran and offered as a civilian version in 1979. 1961 MG A Coupé (1600) Transmission: manualMileage:When the MGA arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados who had become accustomed to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars. It was a complete departure in styling and its beautiful, streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. It was powered by a new engine; MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much more modern B Series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette saloon. The 'A' was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Only 5,869 cars were sold on the home market, giving the MGA the highest export percentage of any British car and was replaced by the MGB in May 1962.This delightful example of the MGA is presented in a modern grey with complementary red trim, it was first registered on 24th April 1961 making this a late car in the production life of the A. 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL320 Transmission: manualMileage:90000Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz R129 Series SL range was beautifully engineered. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, its sophisticated, all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front/five-link rear) was augmented by a host of active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. Harm Lagaay's design, inspired by the 356 Speedster and 550 Spyder, stimulated a commercial turnaround for Porsche. Many believe the introduction of the Boxster helped save Porsche from acquisition. It was Porsche's first water-cooled, non-front engine sports car as the Boxster is mid-engine, while in the 911, rear-engine. This layout provided a low centre of gravity, near-perfect weight distribution and good handling. 1953 Land Rover Series I 80" Transmission: manualMileage:103In the aftermath of the Second World War, Rover's chief engineer Maurice Wilks used a ‘demobbed' Willys Jeep around his farm in Anglesey and was impressed with its abilities. Eventually, it wore out and he was keen to replace it with a British vehicle, however, nothing remotely similar was available. Coincidentally, his brother Spencer, who was Managing Director at Rover, had reached the same conclusion as he struggled to get his Rover 10 to reach the more inaccessible parts of his estate on Islay. This is where `The Best 4x4 by Far' started - a utility vehicle devised in 1947, they would have no idea that Maurice's resulting design would become an icon and launch a whole new industry sector. The vehicle appeared as the 'Land Rover' in 1948 and proved so popular with the military and the farming fraternity that demand massively outstripped supply.This Series I Land Rover was supplied new in ‘kit form’ to Australia in 1953, which was common for the era. In 2016 the car was repatriated to the UK and the vendor set about carrying out a total nut and bolt restoration from top to bottom. The bodywork was bare metal stripped and any corrosion cut-out and repaired as necessary. The paint remains in exceptional condition with all the body panels visually straight. Mechanically this Series I has been very well sorted, the engine was stripped, rebored and rebuilt using as many new parts as possible. The axles were overhauled as was the gearbox. A comprehensive selection of photographs depicts the extent of the restoration, the fastidious vendor even made sure he replaced most of the nuts and bolts with the original ones estimating that these alone cost him circa £1,000. Having covered just 103 miles since the restoration and only being sold due to health issues, this Land Rover Series I is a fine example and viewing is highly recommended to appreciate the extent of the rebuild and quality. 2004 Renault Avantime 'Dynamique' Transmission: manualMileage:109000Having invested a staggering 1.4bn francs (€285m) into development of the world’s first MPV coupé, Renault's futuristic vanity exercise came at quite a price. Remarkably true to the original design, the 'Avantime', was a genuine mould-breaker that offered a luxurious glass cabin with ‘Theatre’ seating, galvanized load-bearing chassis, pillarless side windows and a full panoramic sliding glass roof. The view of the road was commanding and the performance sufficient to ensure that A & B roads were navigated swiftly with great poise and grace. With just 452 cars sold in the UK during the two-year production, only half the remaining cars are thought to have been preserved.Registered in March 2004, this Avantime 'Dynamique' is the very last of the UK two-Litre turbo cars to have been registered. Specified in metallic bright 'Illiad blue' with silver roof-rails, it features a six-speed manual transmission and black, half-leather upholstery. Both original keys remain with the car, along with Renault’s leather zipper wallet and owner’s manual. 1980 Porsche 911 / 930 Turbo with RUF upgrades Transmission: manualMileage:65000In the early 1970's, Porsche had designs on racing a turbocharged version of the 911 and the Porsche 911 Turbo or 930 was born. It was the fastest production car available on the market. Adding this level of power to the already powerful car created a vehicle that was not for the faint hearted. In skilled hands, however, a 930 will show a clean pair of heels to most of its rivals. It was based around the Carrera RS 3.0, the engine from which was modified, courtesy of turbo technology. Initially, power output was 260bhp but from 1978, it was increased to 300bhp by raising the engine capacity to 3.3 litres as is the case in this instance.Appearing to originally sell in Japan, this 3.3 litre model was then re-imported back to Europe in 2019. Needless to say, VAT and duty has been accounted for and a UK V5C and MoT test certificate can be found within the history file. It would also appear that, in 2016, the engine & gearbox was dropped out for an engine rebuild with heads off and pistons and liners refitted with specialists, ‘Autoumbau Porsche’ in Bedfordshire with a total bill of a shade under £10,000. At the same time, correct and period leather seats were installed as well as a decent service, chain tensioners, pipe-work and new sound-deadener. In addition to this mechanically clean bill of health, German specialist, RUF, have supplied a number of upgrades for this car including dials, gearstick and the all-important boost-control.
