This F20 was registered in June 1979 and has had six former keepers. While its history is limited, the V5C is present, along with copies of previous V5Cs and a 2016 bill of sale. The Herald's last MoT expired in March 2019; due to its age, it is now exempt from testing. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 26TH JANUARY BY ACA OF THIS CAR.

1997 TVR Chimaera 4.0Make: TVRModel: Chimaera Year: 1997Mileage: 79999VIN: SDLDCC4P7VC011389Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: P550SBJTransmission: ManualThe potent TVR Chimaera (its name was derived from a monster found in Greek mythology) was built by the Blackpool sports car manufacturer between 1992 and 2003. It shared a lot of its chassis and running gear with the Griffith, as well as its Rover V8 engines, but was pitched as the long distance tourer of the range, so was longer, more spacious inside, and had somewhat softer suspension. This 3952cc V8-engined example was registered in April 1997 and, since then, has covered an indicated 79,999 miles. Finished in green with grey leather interior, it's in very presentable order, although some stonechipping to the nose is apparent, and there are some areas on the bonnet and front wings where the paint is wearing a little thin. Some light scratches are also apparent across the body.

1968 Jaguar S-Type 3.4 M/ODMake: Jaguar Model: S-Type Year: 1968Mileage: 19155VIN: P1B9517DNConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: TMK586FTransmission: manualThe previous owner of 33 years reputedly spent in excess of £30,000 restoring this manual gearbox with overdrive Jaguar S-type 3.4, with the job completed during 1990. However, after that, his employment commitments abroad meant that the car wasn't really used and was dry-stored instead for around 28 years. The last few years of its storage have been under a cover outside, however. The car, in green with cream leather interior, was registered in July 1968, and the mileage is recorded on the odometer as 19,155 miles. Three former registered keepers are noted. Included in the large history folder are copies of old V5 documents, photos of the car, and invoices and correspondence detailing its restoration and what was spent on what, and when. There are also old parts catalogues, magazine features and other bills and correspondence dating back to the 1970s. Having been off the road for so long, renovation work will now be required to return this example of one of Jaguar's best-loved classic sports saloons to the road.

This one was registered in August 2002 and has had eight former registered keepers from new, according to the V5C (which is present). 1963 Riley 1.5Make: Riley Model: 1.5Year: 1963Mileage: 61000VIN: R1H527212Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: KGW492ATransmission: manualThe Riley One-Point-Five - as the company formally described it - was, along with its slightly less well-endowed sister, the Wolseley 1500, originally intended to be a Morris Minor replacement. However, thanks to the Minor continuing to be a big success, it was decided instead to transform the forthcoming model into small luxury and performance saloons under the Wolseley and Riley badges. Of the two models, the Riley had the more power, boasting almost 20bhp more than the Wolseley. It managed 68bhp from its twin-carb 1489cc B-Series engine. After that, it was professionally repainted in Snowberry White and then reassembled, with the vendor intending to use it for car shows. It has been stored in a garage when not used. The odometer records 19,068 miles, although this isn't warranted. The V5C is present, showing five former registered keepers. 1957 Ford Prefect 100E Make: FordModel: Prefect 100E Year: 1957Mileage: 11160VIN: 100E363513Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: TWU537Transmission: ManualThe Prefect 100E was the four-door counterpart to the two-door Anglia, both small sidevalve-engined cars serving as Ford's budget models during the 1950s. The Prefect was billed as the world's cheapest four-door car when a current model. This turquoise 1172cc machine was registered in April 1957 and has had eight former keepers since then. The vendor informs us that the car was restored in 2019 'to a high standard' and is 'mechanically sound and drives very well'. The car is in very good order, externally and internally, and behaves itself on the road, with everything functioning as it should, including the vacuum windscreen wipers. The history includes current and previous V5Cs, old tax discs dating back to the 1990s and MoT certificates from 1981 (when the recorded mileage was 89,050), 2001 to 2004, 2006 to 2008, 2010 to 2014 and 2016 to 2017. These show low annual mileages over recent years, although the current odometer reading of 11,160 miles obviously 111,160. There are several invoices, most of them from the 21st century. These include ones for a full carpet set in 2016 (£175) and two new tyres during the same year. Also in the file are a Pitman's Motorists' Library owner's maintenance and workshop handbook, Haynes workshop manual, Ford Popular instruction manual, Ford repair charges booklet and a photocopy of a period The Motor magazine road test. A spare set of keys is included.

1964 Ford Zodiac MK3Make: Ford Model: Zodiac Year: 1964Mileage: 86459VIN: Z64D0088YLConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: XWG860Transmission: manualThe third generation of Ford's Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac range was a sharply-styled and dramatic-looking design that was very of its era. The Zodiac was the flagship model, with considerably more luxury, a revised window arrangement, lashings of chrome and a 2553cc six-cylinder engine of 109bhp, which was enough to turn this executive cruiser into a genuine 100mph machine. This example was registered in January 1964, with the vendor having owned the car for three years. Recent work includes fitting four new tyres, a fuel pump, regulator, alternator, coil, electronic ignition, reconditioned water pump and the petrol tank repaired. The car has a floor-mounted gearchange, rather than the column-mounted stalk often found on these cars, especially those with a front bench seat. The Zodiac's history includes the V5C, plus the current MoT certificate - valid until November 2022 - and past MoTs from 2019, 2018, 2017 and 1999. The bills include those for the ignition coil, repaired fuel tank, four Maxxis tyres and Powerspark electronic ignition kit (2021), water pump, ignition parts and alternator (2019), but there are no invoices earlier than 2019. The black car, with red leather interior, is in smart condition throughout and shows 86,459 miles on its odometer, although this total isn't warranted. The front wings are glassfibre panels. Four former keepers are noted on the V5C.

1967 Volvo 121 Amazon Estate Make: VolvoModel: Amazon EstateYear: 1967Mileage: 53906VIN: 45858Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: WSV240Transmission: ManualThe Amazon was the car that largely introduced the rest of world beyond Scandinavia to Volvo, selling well across the globe. The model was in production from 1956 to 1970. The Amazon name was unofficial - because a German motorcycle manufacturer had already used the title. So instead, Volvo started using a tri-digit designation instead, beginning with the number one. The nomenclature '121' designated the base model variant with a single carburettor and 66bhp. Estate variants joined the saloons in 1962. This 121 estate was registered in 1967 (although there is an error on the HPI check document which says it was registered in 1954) and is fitted with the 1778cc B18 engine, justifiably renowned for its reliability and durability.

However, by 1992, it had come to the UK, where it was registered in April of that year. Six former registered keepers have been recorded on the V5C since then. The odometer now shows 154,699 miles, although this isn't warranted. The current MoT is valid until December 2022. Included in the history file are the present and some past V5Cs, as well as the current MoT certificate, as well as previous ones from 2013 to 2019. There are a handful of invoices dating from 2012 to 2016. These include a service in April 2016 at 153,463 miles, new tyres in 2012 and 2013, stripped and cleaned brakes in 2018 and a new battery in April 2019, accompanied by more brake work. This two-tone blue and white example was registered in July 1965 and has had 10 former registered keepers according to the V5C. The vendor acquired it 16 years ago. Although largely standard, and still with its 997cc engine, the car has been slightly lowered and now sits on Rostyle wheels rather than the usual steel wheels with hubcaps. The body looks to be in very good order, as does the interior with its blue vinyl upholstery. There is a slight tear along one seam of the front passenger seat though.

The 1.4S was a comparatively rare model as a halfway house between the family runarounds and the more potent XR2, with a sunroof, driving lamps, and XR2-type bumpers and sports steering wheel. The vendor tells us that the vehicle was off the road for 14 years, in dry storage (which is backed up by the online MoT history), but has had a recent full respray and a fresh engine oil service. Four former registered keepers are recorded by the V5C, which is present. The MoT is valid until June 2022, with the certificate also in the paperwork file. The folder also contains some of the original booklets, albeit not in their Ford wallet. These include the owner's handbook and audio equipment instructions. 1930 AJS Two Seater TourerMake: AJSModel: Two seater TourerYear: 1930Mileage: 4527VIN: A213Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: OG6105Transmission: ManualAlthough best-known as a maker of motorcycles, A J Stevens and Co (AJS) also made wireless sets, commercial vehicles and cars at its Wolverhampton factories. Its first foray into automobiles was as the supplier of coachwork (via its Hayward Motor Bodies subsidiary) for the locally-produced Clyno Nine light car. However, when Clyno collapsed in early 1929, AJS decided to introduce its own vehicle instead. The AJS Nine was similar to the old Clyno, and used a 1018cc sidevalve Coventry Climax engine of 24bhp, mated to a three-speed gearbox. Sales of the car began in August 1930. However, despite many admirable qualities - or possibly because of them - the AJS Nine proved too expensive, and production ended after around 1000 cars when AJS went into liquidation in October 1931. A further 300 were made by Willys-Overland-Crossley however.

1967 Austin-Healey Arkley SSMake: AHModel: Arkley SSYear: 1967Mileage: 30702VIN: HAN965108Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: OUY100ETransmission: manualIf you're wondering what an Arkley SS is, you're probably not alone. This little-known conversion for MG Midgets or Austin-Healey Sprites was designed by British racing driver John Britten in 1969 as glassfibre front- and rear-end replacement body sections, intended to be reminiscent of a Morgan. When initially offered, the Arkley conversion allowed rusty 'Spridgets' to be given an extra lease of life thanks to the fitment of the glassfibre panelling manufactured by the Lenham Motor Company in Kent. The lighter bodywork also improved performance over the original cars. Production of the kits continued until 1995. Around 900 Arkley SS conversions were sold, albeit without all of them necessarily being built up, especially when original Midgets and Sprites started to become more valuable as classics. This example, with an interesting number plate, has a 1275cc Austin-Healey Sprite as its basis, registered in March 1967. The odometer shows 30,702 miles and 13 former registered keepers are recorded on the V5C. Included in the history folder are the present and some previous V5Cs, the last MoT certificate from 2018 (which expired in May 2019; the vehicle is now exempt) plus ones from 2003 to 2014. There are also assorted tax discs and various invoices for work carried out over a number of years, with more recent jobs being a new oil/water gauge fitted in 2020, and a new battery plus some carburettor work during 2018. A spare set of keys (with what must be a rare Arkley SS keyring) is included. While the car's body has some age and wear marking and paint imperfections, this Arkley SS seems solid and usable overall.

1930 Chevrolet PhaetonMake: Chevrolet Model: Phaeton Year: 1930Mileage: 96957VIN: NRR216Y121Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: BF8303Transmission: manualThis 1930 Chevrolet is a very well-travelled car. According to a 2017 inspection by the American Automobile Club of Great Britain, it was built at General Motors' Oshawa plant in Canada for export to Uruguay in right-hand drive Phaeton (touring body) form. As this body style was in decline, only 1713 were produced during 1930, costing $495. The 50bhp 3.2-litre six-cylinder car seems to have stayed in South America until around 1990, when it travelled to Germany. It came to the UK in 2017 and was allocated the numberplate BF8303 by the DVLA in July of that year. The engine number of R2167191 corresponds to a right-hand drive unit, with a casting date of November 1930, so is believed to be the car's original motor. The history folder includes the V5C, some documentation from Uruguay regarding the shipment to Germany, some German paperwork, some British bills, a copy of the dating letter from the American Automobile Club of Great Britain, HRMC correspondence regarding the car's import into the UK and a photocopy of a book chapter chronicling the 1930 Chevrolet Universal AD Series. The recent invoices include four 19in Waymaster WM30 tyres fitted in 2017 (£460.80), a rebuilt brake master cylinder in 2017 (£111.90) and some engine parts during 2020 ($318.50, from the USA). The charming old Chevrolet looks to still be in original and solid, albeit patinated condition. While the speedometer has been disconnected and removed, it is present with the car and records 96,957 miles.

1988 Ford Escort 1.4 LX One owner from newMake: Ford Model: Escort LXYear: 1988Mileage: 81323VIN: SFAAXXBBAAJL70072Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: F985MOOTransmission: manualThe LX trim level was introduced on the MkIV Ford Escort in 1987 in order to fill the gap between the L and GL models. One of its distinguishing features was a smart two-tone finish, with lower dark panels on the doors matching the line of the front and rear bumpers. Inside, there was just a little more luxury and equipment to make the car feel one up from an L - but not enough to make potential customers feel that they wouldn't get even more from buying a GL, naturally. This 1988 1.4-litre example, finished in Radiant Red with Mocha trim, was registered in October of that year, has had just one owner from new, and we're told that it has always been garaged. Its extremely good condition, inside and out, would seem to back this up, as it is in lovely order for a vehicle that is now 34 years old and all original. It also starts, stops and drives exactly as it should. The indicated mileage is 81,323 miles, which is warranted by the large history file stretching back to when the car was new. The MoT is valid until October 2022.

Its odometer shows 23,302 miles, and although a lack of paperwork means this can't be warranted, the online MoT history of the car suggests it is genuine, with the 2006 test being undertaken at 12,795 miles. The car has only covered a comparatively limited number of miles every year since then. The current MoT, passed at 23,200 miles, expires in July 2022. The history folder includes the V5C, current MoT certificate and original Rover assistance card. There's also a spare set of keys. The car, with leather and tartan interior and full-length wooden dashboard, is in generally presentable condition although would benefit from some cosmetic attention. This example, registered in September 1997, is the top of the range Ghia X model, boasting the highest levels of equipment, wood inserts on the dash and centre console, and leather seats. It has covered just 27,594 miles, a total that is largely confirmed by the service book (which shows the last service at 22,000 miles in 2019) and the online MoT history. Only one former registered keeper is noted on the V5C, which is present. Also in the history folder is the owner's handbook, a single invoice for a service in 2001, and a copy of the current MoT certificate, valid until the end of November 2022, which notes that the exhaust is in poor condition. There's also a spare set of keys. The car is in nice order throughout, and drives as it should. One item of note is that there's evidence of some recent welding apparent on the boot floor, probably carried out for the MoT earlier this year. The vendor advises that he has garage stored the car for the last five years with the very occasional trip out in dry weather. The car is described as solid. Fitted with a later sunroof and the headlining requires attention. It appears to have done little mileage over many years. 1958 Austin A95 WestminsterMake: AustinModel: A95 WestminsterYear: 1958Mileage: 68515VIN: B56HCS53237Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: XNX400Transmission: ManualThe Westminster, in its various derivates, occupied the top spot of Austin's range from 1954 to 1968. The 2.6-litre six-cylinder A95 variant debuted in autumn 1956 as a more powerful and lengthened upgrade of the previous A90. The model lasted through to 1959 before being replaced by the Pininfarina-styled A99. This example was built in 1957, but wasn't sold and registered until January 1958. While many left the factory in a single colour, dealers charged an extra £15 for a side flash and another £15 on top of that for a roof colour change. This car obviously received both, with a red roof and flash contrasting with its grey livery, before being dispatched to its new owner by Patrick Motors Ltd of Birmingham. The mileage now is showing on the odometer as 68,515 miles, although this isn't warranted. The vehicle is now MoT-exempt because of its historic status, with its last MoT having expired in March 2013. Work undertaken between 2004 and July 2021 includes new rear springs, a complete new clutch, new front suspension kingpins with fulcrum pins and bushes, new twin front exhaust pipes and flexibles and a spin-on cartridge oil filter conversion kit. Two refurbished rear wings were fitted in 2009, with electronic ignition in 2013. New sills, custom-made from double thickness steel, have also gone on, and rewiring has also been undertaken with an alternator installed. The dashboard has been rebuilt so that all instruments work as they should, save for the clock. There's an extensive history which includes the current V5C (showing three former registered keepers) as well as the original buff logbook. There's also two driver's handbooks, service booklet, a Pitman's Motorists' Library Book of the Austin, BMC service manual and two BMC parts catalogues, alongside a lubrication chart, copies of 1956 and 1957 road tests from The Motor, a Popular Classics road test from 1992, and Classic Car Weekly buying feature. The paperwork folder also includes assorted bills, invoices and MoT certificates dating back to the 1960s, all suggesting a vehicle that has received a lot of care and attention over the years. It's a restoration project, but the vendor believes the bodyshell is solid with most of the important welding work done including the A-pillars, scuttle and rear quarter. A front windscreen is required. The car apparently starts and runs well, and the engine and gearbox are reported to be good. The car requires an owner who will be able to finish it off. The odometer shows the 'mileage' as 59,426km, although this isn't warranted. The paperwork folder contains the V5C, which shows two previous registered keepers since the car has been in the UK. She'd continue to keep it being, up until now, its only owner. Over the next 38 years, she drove it on an almost daily basis. However, when not in use, 'Min' (as the car was christened) was parked in its own centrally-heated and carpeted garage, while any maintenance was undertaken by a Mini specialist. Even with such care and attention, by 2005, age and use was beginning to take its toll on the car, and Min was renovated, with new sills, repairs to the underneath, a full respray and new headlining. 10 years after this, the engine was taken out and stripped for inspection, but was found to still be in good order. Nevertheless, a new unleaded cylinder head was fitted, along with new standard-sized pistons, big end and crank bearings. The clutch, gasket and oil seals were replaced at the same time, while the carburettor was overhauled, a new water pump installed, and a reconditioned starter motor and alternator fitted. 1990 Volvo 740 GL - Idris Elba's 'Luther' carMake: Volvo Model: 740 GLYear: 1990Mileage: 0VIN: YV1744273L1490995Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: H654WKHTransmission: manualThe critically-acclaimed BBC psychological crime drama Luther, first broadcast in 2010, helped turn Idris Elba into an internationally famous star for his portrayal of DCI John Luther. One of Luther's trademarks was his love of old Volvos; in the first series, he drove a 240, and returned to that model for the fifth series. However, the big Swedish bruiser that got the most on-screen time with Idris was the pale metallic blue 1990 740 GL he drove in series two, three and four. H654 WKH is the Luther Volvo, registered in August 1990. It's in the same condition as when it appeared on TV, including missing bits of body trim and wheeltrims, plus a front wing in grey primer. Ordinarily, these might be regarded as negative points, but in the case of this 740 GL, they provide extra authenticity; this is the car as DCI Luther owned and drove it in the series. Inside, the car still has its prop two-way communications radio fitted, as well as what we believe is a blue light atop the dashboard. The Volvo can be seen starring alongside Idris Elba in these Luther YouTube segments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GcqRcYPZsI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld6C1JyiVDw Five former registered keepers are recorded for this 1986cc Volvo, which comes with its V5C (as well as a copy of some previous ones) and a current MoT certificate valid until January 2023. There are also test certificates dating from 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, with the ones from 2010 onwards showing very few miles covered year-to-year over that period. In 2010, the recorded mileage was 145,635 miles, it's now 145,921. There's also the original document folder with owner's manual, audio equipment instructions (with radio code), service manual and even a Volvo Lifetime Care cassette. The service book is stamped up to 102,698 miles (November 1998). Paperwork very specific to this particular car is a sheaf of BBC production call sheets and parking permits, as well as a cardboard cut-out of Idris Elba - for that extra touch of realism.
