The design of the present lot was developed by Francis Hawksbee (1660-1713) in around 1705 with the twin cylinder arrangement based upon a pump by Denis Papin (1642-1712) who first devised this arrangement (albeit operated by pulleys and foot treadles) in 1674.

The bellows are airtight and the clock will play music, however we have not tested whether all notes are operational; some of the pipes are a little loose hence it is probable that not all of them will sound. The music cylinder appears to be in good condition with the staples undisturbed and only slight shrinkage cracking. The dial panel is a little warped but retains its original finish albeit with some wear and flaking. The original brass hands are present.Clock has three weights (two small brass-cased and one very heavy lead weight), a pendulum (rating screw bent) and a crank winding key. 1986 Nissan 300ZX Z31Reg. no. E660 CNLChassis no. JN10HGZ31U0030368Engine no. VG30-071737Transmission: ManualMileage: 69,913MOT: Expired For a period of time the world forgot about 1980s Japanese sports cars, but these are now coming back with a bang onto the classic car market. The first generation of 300ZX, the Z31, was built from 1983 - 1989, offering buyers that typical retro sports car wedge shape with iconic pop-up headlights. With a drag coefficient of just 0.31 and Nissan’s first mass produced V6, the VG30, the car had good performance for the era. The 2+2 Coupe in 1986 featured some pre facelift parts but also some older parts as the model evolved, making it a unique year for these cars. This version of the Z car featured cruise control, electric mirrors and electric windows. This example with the 3-litre V6 NA engine, features a manual gearbox and glass T-top. It has been stored in a barn for a number of years whilst having sporadic work carried out. The paintwork has taken sun damage over the years, quite typical with a red car, but the underside looks to be solid having had some recent welding and the bodywork is quite straight. It has done very little mileage since 2018. The car runs and drives with the engine running smoothly and the gearbox selecting all gears. The interior also remains in good order aside from the driver’s bolster. The only aftermarket parts that appear to be fitted are a stainless exhaust system, cone air filter, radio and a Nardi steering wheel (original included). It has been sat for some time so the car will require some restoration, but it is a great base for what is now a very rare vehicle. The sale includes a number of spares, a V5C logbook as well as a large folder of history including old servicing and parts receipts. Previous work includes replacement of an outer sill, inner arch and section of the floor in 2021. It also received a timing belt in 2017 and an alternator in 2019 but appears to have very little use if any during current ownership. There seem to a number of parts receipts from Japan which suggests that many items are still available to buy.Estimate: £4,000 – 6,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 1934 Lanchester 10 SaloonReg. no. CPA 873Chassis no. 23137Engine no. 69475Introduced in 1932 and the smallest ever Lanchester, the Ten was unique in its class at the time, having both a Daimler fluid flywheel and Wilson four-speed pre-selector gearbox. The car had an adequate performance with a top speed of just over 60mph. Little is known about the history of this example apart from the fact that Barry Trevarrow acquired the car following the death of local enthusiast and friend Royston Ball, who had enjoyed the car for some years. This Lanchester is offered with a V5C, an original spare parts catalogue and an instruction manual. There are also other items of early literature and ephemera.Estimate: £4,000 - 6,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 2006 Porsche 911 997 Carrera S ConvertibleReg. no. AY06 KLEChassis no. WP0ZZZ99Z6S762682Engine no. 68613594Transmission: ManualMileage: 100,482 (3,500 Since Engine Rebuild)MOT: January 2024 The Porsche 911 is known for being the everyday sports car with people able to use it to commute to work or take to the shops but, at the same time, enjoy a weekend drive or a cruise across Europe. With its unique rear engine, flat six drivetrain and unchanged shape since its first generation, they have been popular for good reason, for decades. The 997 generation was produced from 2004 – 2013 and was well received by both the public and motoring journalists worldwide. It has a sleek look with the headlight shape giving a nod to older generations of 911. The 997 shared just a third of its parts with the previous generation of 996 and as a result felt very different to drive. The Carrera S version like this example, had improved suspension, larger brakes and a 3.8 flat six producing 350bhp pushing the car to 62mph in just 4.2 seconds and the usual German speed limiter of 155mph.Having been part of a collection for a number of years, this manual, 997 convertible, has been very well looked after and dry stored with its current owner. It also shows just two previous owners on the V5C document. The black leather interior with silver trim presents well, whilst externally the body sits in black with black roof, silver 19” lobster fork alloy wheels and the red Porsche brakes standing out behind them. The car received a complete engine rebuild in 2018 by renowned Porsche specialists Hartech to the tune of £8,500 with a complete run down of the build included in the car’s paperwork, it has only done 3,500 miles since. Original Porsche manuals are present, as is service history and other paperwork including parts receipts and old MOT’s.These are fantastic cars. They sound superb, have a really nice manual gearbox and go as well as they should. Any new potential owner will not be disappointed with this example.Estimate: £22,000 – 24,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 1948 Vauxhall VeloxReg. no. LYW 438Chassis no. LIP72450Engine no. TBCTransmission: Manual The Velox LIP 4 door saloon was powered by a newly developed 6-cylinder engine and cost £550 including taxes at first production. They were produced across the world from 1948-1951 in the UK, Switzerland, New Zealand and even Australia. This Velox was purchased purely for the use in a family member’s wedding and has seen little work since with the odd Sunday drive out and then put into storage when not in use. The blue paintwork presents well, accented by white wall tyres and chrome trim. The leather interior looks recently trimmed and features blue piping, complimenting the blue carpet. The engine seems to run smoothly although the column shifter linkages in the engine bay do needs some work as it does struggle to engage gears. With a little work this unusual British saloon car offers pre-war luxury in a post-war elegant saloon. The sale includes a current V5 along with some information about the model and a selection of spare parts.Estimate: £5,000 - 7,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 2015 Land Rover Defender 110 Pickup High CapacityReg. no. AO15 LFKChassis no. SALLDHTP7FA465392Engine no. TBCTransmission: ManualMileage: 33,106MOT: February 2024 The original Land Rover Defender had its final production year in 2015, this is one of those final production 4x4s. Not only is it a last year truck, but it comes in the very unusual heavy-duty pickup guise with just 33,000 miles which is backed up by online MOT history. The HC Pickup was designed to haul heavier payloads than any normal defender and they look fantastic, a sure-fire future classic commercial. This almost completely original Defender features the later 2.2 TDCi engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox which results in the best drive ever from the classic Defender shape. The HC allows for towing of up to 3500kg’s which is useful for those who put them to work, as well as a slightly wider rear bed to carry more goods or equipment.Supplied by Hunter Land Rover in Kings Lyn, this particular Defender is painted in Keswick green with white roof and white steel wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler mud tyres. The body, chassis and paint are in stunning condition with just minor marks and scratches to the inside pickup bed. The truck was believed to be previously used on an estate to haul grain and in its current ownership enjoyed as part of a collection. The grey cloth interior also remains in very good order and mechanically everything works as it should. The underside including chassis and wheel arches are still in near factory condition. The current owner reports that the vehicle is mechanically sound and drives as new but is due a service. This Land rover is ready to be used with a fresh MOT until February 2024 with no advisories. It comes with a V5C document and some paperwork.Estimate: £25,000 – 27,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. BF 8901Chassis no. 48150Engine no. 709/2945Wolseley’s light cars set the pace for their expansion and a streamlined version of the 10 broke records at Brooklands in 1921. The model was produced for five years and featured advancements such as overhead camshaft and electric starter. This interesting special was started by well respected engineer and driver, the late Geoffrey Richardson, and the car requires finishing. We understand that the chassis is an old replacement and is fitted with an 11/22 engine. The current owner has not owned it very long but lack of space forces the sale. Within the history file is a V5C, a copy of an original instruction manual, copies of early literature, an original Wolseley 11/22 instruction manual, an original Wolseley 10 instruction manual and various other literature.Estimate: £3,000 – 5,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 1952 Riley 1.5 RMEReg: RVT 80Chassis Code: RME 42S 20817Engine Code: RMA10952 Riley’s executive car produced from 1945-1955 is a truly elegant saloon featuring sleek lines and a very spacious interior. The cars featured a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with manual gearbox and is considered the first post-war Riley. Modern technology was introduced which included hydro-mechanical brakes as well as independent suspension using torsion bars. It is reported that around 10,500 cars were produced. This RME comes from a deceased estate where the gentleman clearly had a love for British cars, it was acquired in 2015 and has been dry stored in current ownership with only occasional use. Despite being MOT exempt it was last MOT’d in 2016 showing 63,000 miles on the odometer. The body and chassis appear to be in good solid condition and the paint appears to just need a good detail and polish to bring it back to its former glory. The leather interior is also in good condition. Having been in storage for some time the car could do with minor recommissioning before it is used again. The car has most recently undergone restoration work in 2020 by Cotswold classic car restorations near Cirencester which included front wing repairs as well as an engine and carburettor service. The sale includes a current V5 document, two sets of keys and a folder of history including original Riley instruction manual, parts manuals, Riley members club magazines and a number of old MOT’s.Estimate: £4,000 - 5,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 1935 Hillman Minx SaloonReg: BLY 98Chassis no. M40829Engine no. M40075 Hillman and Herbert were founded 1876 first making sewing machines but soon expanded into making bicycles. The company was advertised as makers of every-kind of bicycle and tricycle and went on to be the world’s largest manufacturer. When Hillman wanted to start a motor company he turned to a young Breton, Louis Coatalen Chief Engineer at Humber, to form a partnership and design the first cars. In 1907 the Hillman-Coatalen was started and at first offered a 9-litre and a 6-litre car. This was followed by a smaller 2.3 litre in 1908. Coatalen left the firm in 1909 to go to the Sunbeam Car Company. In 1910 the firm dropped the Coatalen name and was known as The Hillman Motor Car Company Ltd.The Minx was launched at the 1931 Olympia Show and was to become their best-known model and became one of Britain’s most popular cars. It was powered by a 1185cc 4-cylinder side valve engine and had a full synchromesh gearbox in 1935. BLY 98 was purchased by the present owner in 2002. The car was subject to a full restoration, of which there are many photographs on file. The bodywork, which is in generally good condition and sound, was resprayed in blue with black wings, and now shows some signs of patination and the interior trimmed in light tan leather. The owner states that the car drives well, and the mechanics are good. The file contains paperwork going back many years and includes the well documented photographic restoration. 1988 Land Rover 90 County Estate D TurboReg. no. F607 SMUChassis no. SALLDVBB7FA366495Engine no. 19J21553CTransmission: ManualMileage: 140,613MOT: ExpiredAlthough not initially called the Defender, this iconic model was first produced from 1983 and was simply named the 90 or 110 depending on the wheelbase. After the Series III, Land Rover opted for coil springs for an improved ride, they updated the interior, modernised the exterior and widened the axles amongst other things meaning that their 4x4’s were no longer just works vehicles, but recreational too. This original, unrestored 90 County estate version features fold down rear seats and those iconic County decals on the exterior. It is fitted with the better of the engines available at the time, the 2.5 diesel turbo with a manual gearbox. It has factory County rear side windows and a front middle seat allowing seven people to ride in the truck. The Land Rover is running and driving but considered a project due to needing improvement and some body work attention. The green paint has light corrosion in places whilst the chassis could also do with some welding and at least one of the front strut towers could do with replacing. The interior also requires a good clean. Mechanically the vehicle seems to be sound with a strong engine, gearbox and healthy electrics; a perfect running project for an LR enthusiast. It was last MOT’d in 2021 and digital history shows mileage back to 85,000 miles. The sale includes a current V5 document showing just five previous owners.Estimate: £5,000 - £7,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 1957 MGA RoadsterReg. no. UVM 242Chassis no. HDK 13/32092Engine no. E96649Transmission: ManualMileage: 14,172 (Indicated) The sleek look of an MGA over its TF predecessor results in a very different car all together. With a low seating position and aerodynamic body, it’s a beautiful little package. The sporty roadster is powered by a 1500cc inline four-cylinder B-series engine coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox. This 1957 car is a lovely example of the earlier model and holds a fantastic history of ownership and touring. The car remains a nice example to this day with the red paint shining bright on what appears to be a solid body. The interior looks to be in good order and our vendor drove the car to our site on a beautiful winter morning. It seems to be ready to be enjoyed as a weekend classic or to continue taking a new owner touring. Detailed ownership history is included with the car and it suggests that the first purchaser was from Dorset, owning the car for around 27 years. It was then sold in the mid-1980s as a project and consequently fully restored including some zinc coated panels and an engine rebuild. The ground up restoration is documented in the history file with images and the cars current condition is a testament to the gentleman who did the work all those years ago. It took third place in the MG class at a club meeting at Silverstone and was sold there in 1986. Mr. Kingwell of Winchester then owned the car from the 80’s until 2020. Kingwell took the MGA to over 250 events during his ownership, from shows to European tours taking the sports car to great circuits and completing demonstration laps at places like the Nurburgring, Spa Francorchamps and Zandvoort. The car took part in four RAC/MSA Euro Classics 3-day tours and six RAC/Norwich Union Classics tours. The roadster is in original condition aside from having 72 spoke wire wheels, part electronic ignition and a spin off oil filter conversion. The sale includes various V5 documents as well as green card car registration. Many of its pre digital MOTs are included as far back as 1987 when it showed 77,000 miles on the odometer, suggesting the car has been around the clock with all the fantastic touring it has done. A folder of parts and servicing invoices are also included.Estimate: £20,000 - £25,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. The engine is started using a hand operated lever and the drive shaft operated through one leg of the swinging arm. Chang Jiang Motorcycle Combination Model CJ750DReg. no. Not registeredFrame no. 5908323Engine no. NF2P 78 FMV-2 59060391Chang Jiang means long river and was the name given to the Russian built Ural M-72 after China took over production in the 50s. The Chang Jiang 750 is basically a copy of the Ural M-72 equipped with a 4-stroke, 746cc flat twin side valve flat head engine that is built on the same principle as the original BMW boxer engine. These bikes came in three versions the M1 the M1M and the overhead valve M1S. All were shaft driven and the M1M and the M1S had 12-volt electrics and a reverse gear that made it a very maneuverable combination for a solo rider. This combination has come from a deceased estate and has not been used for several years. The engine turns over, using the kickstart but the bike only has one carburetor, so no attempt has been made to start it. New Chang Jiang motorcycles are still available to buy in the UK and the Cossack Owners Club is an excellent friendly club for help and information.Comes with - an illustrated parts catalogue, an instruction manual and keysEstimate: £1,000 – 1,500To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. It is unrestored and has retained many of its original parts. 1932 Wolseley Hornet ‘March’ Special – the demonstrator car for 1932-34Reg. no. GX 9443Car no. 106315 (recorded by Barry at the time of discovery, original plate still present))Chassis no. 264-65 (recorded by Barry at the time of discovery, and on chassis plate)Engine no. 228/A65Kevill-Davies & March Ltd was a partnership formed in 1929 between Lord Freddy March and Hugh Kevill-Davies, an association which began when both were employed at Bentley Motors. After a short but successful career as a racing driver, Lord March was firmly established in the current motoring scene. With his artistic ability and natural understanding of line and symmetry, it was not surprising that he developed his ideas by styling sports and touring cars of the period. With the assistance of Rivers Fletcher, what has been described as the ‘March Line’, was produced in 1932 on the Wolseley Hornet Special chassis. There would seem to be no precedent for the long elegant wings at the time, since most sporting cars were produced with cycle-type mudguards, but from late 1932 long flowing wings were in vogue. In 1967 Barry Trevarrow recorded a Wolseley Hornet Special, minus two front wheels, abandoned in ‘Peacocks’ chalk pit in Wiltshire, which had been partly destroyed and vandalised. Jack Nichols had recovered the engine in 1967/8, local scrap merchants stripped the alloy off the body and Barry recovered as much as he could carry at the time, including part of the windscreen frame, the dashboard, the spare wheel carrier, wings and ‘March’ horn badge. Over the years Barry traced and recovered most of the mechanical parts but efforts to trace any documentation proved unsuccessful, due mainly to the fact that the car had been ‘cleared’ as unclaimed goods from RAF Upavon at some time in the 1960s by a local resident. Twenty years later Barry returned to the pit and rediscovered the chassis complete with firewall and identity plates. In 1986 Barry was able to take possession of the chassis and therefore he had possession of the whole car. In February 1988 Barry found the engine block and two wheels; the original engine block is present but is not part of the restored engine. Over many years, a great deal of research into this and other March Specials ensued, correspondence in the folder includes letters to and from The Earl of March, Rivers Fletcher and Michael Worthington-Williams.GX 9443 the ‘33’ version, was the prototype for a production run of under 25 cars, and probably coachbuilt by Whittingham & Mitchel. GX 9443 had been first photographed in July/August 1932 by Charles Bowers who did the publicity work for Kevill-Davies & March Ltd, (endorsed by Monty Bowers who was present when his father C.K. Bowers took the photographs) and was used by Autocar in their driving test August 1932. It was the demonstrator car for the company who sold cars as the ‘March Special’. The demonstrator had special features, the most prominent of which included a special ‘March’ badge on the horn, mounted in front of the radiator, and spare wheel carrier with the word ‘March’ engraved. The first March Hornet was GX 16, the second version was GX 9443, and this demonstration car was shown in all subsequent adverts. In the Light Car and Cyclecar of August 12th GX 9443 was featured in a full-page driving report complete with ‘rear tank protected with wooden slat armouring’.Barry’s long-term research supported his early hypothesis that this car was GX 9443, for example the ‘standard’ March did not have this type of horn or the double arched scuttle and the demonstrator had chromed wheels, horn and chromed hinges. Interestingly GX 9443 was also tested in Wiltshire in August 1932. According to Rivers Fletcher, The Earl of March’s own demonstrator was built in aluminium, yet all production cars were in steel. Did the Earl of March own GX 9443?The car has been partly restored over many years, the bodywork has been skinned in alloy and a new bonnet made to the original pattern. The engine has by repute been rebuilt and most parts are present to finish the restoration of this exciting and historically important motor car. In the file are the original chassis plate, original ‘March’ horn badge, a set of three rebuilt SU carburettors, ‘March’ spare wheel spinner etc. plus a huge quantity of literature including two original Wolseley Hornet Spare Parts Lists, another for a Hornet Special, an original Hornet Special Instruction Manual, a current V5C, various correspondence and research on other March bodied cars etc. There are also various spares including front and rear axles, three engine blocks, a radiator, etc.
