Menu for the Banquet at The Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles for the Officers and Passengers of the Graf Zeppelin during the World Flight of 1929. A menu (15cm x 23cm) comprising a card cover and a paper insert, bound together by a blue and white tasselled cord. On the front cover, at the top, is a silhouette of the “Graf Zeppelin” in silver against a light blue background, at the bottom are the crest and name of the venue, and in between the text reads “Banquet in Honour of Dr Hugo Eckener The Officers and Passengers of the Graf Zeppelin Tendered by Los Angeles Examiner and Affiliated Hearst Publications at the Ambassador, Los Angeles During the course of the epoch-making Hearst-Zeppelin Around the World Flight.”(sic). On opening the menu, there are some comments and names written in pencil. The centre pages show the menu on the right , in gothic script, each course dedicated to an individual on the flight, on the left of the page is a Japanese Kanji, the signature of Lieutenant Commander Kusaka Ryunosuke (Kusaka being the family name). The menu has some marks and stains on the cover, and the tasselled cord has cut up the centre-fold by 2cm. Important Note: Lieutenant Commander Kusaka Ryunosuke had graduated from the Japanese Naval Staff college in 1925 as a specialist in Naval Aviation. By 1941 he had commanded 2 of Japans Aircraft Carriers (Hosho and Akagai) but was promoted to Chief of Staff of the 1st Air Fleet in April 1940, taking part in the strategic and tactical planning for Pearl Harbour and subsequent operations. Promoted to Vice Admiral in 1944, he survived the war.GC
19th C LARGE CHINESE IRON RED & GILT DRAGON BOWL Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty period large hand painted iron red & gold gilt bowl depicting flying dragons amongst flames and lingzhi form clouds with gold flaming pearl. Bottom holds red six character calligraphy Qianlong (1736-1795) reign mark, and is of the period. Measures 4 3/8" height x 10 3/8" diameter (11.1cm x 26.3cm). Total weight of 1508 grams.

A collection of thirty six Cantonese mother of pearl gaming counters mid. 19th century, in the form of exquisitely carved fish in three different sizes, the twelve largest realistically carved with scales and a circular design of love birds to one side and a flower head to the opposing side, 3in (7½cm) wide, twelve similar with love birds to one side, 2¼in (5½cm) wide and twelve smaller with love birds to one side 1¾in (4½cm) wide (36).
