A large early 20th Century carved and ebonised teak Buddha,standing with right hand covering heart, mother-of-pearl inset eyes, 224cms (88in.) high.NB: This teak Buddha was acquired in 1985 from a Gosforth family, whose ancestor, a ship's captain, brought two from Burma in the 1880s. One fell off into the Tyne and is now in the South Shields Museum. This one was retained by the family, who leaned it against an outside wall when they moved into The Grove, Gosforth in 1936.
