A PAIR OF LARGE PORCELAIN AND MARBLE INSET BLACKWOOD THRONE CHAIRS Late 19th/early 20th century, the arched back rest centered with a circular yellow ground famille rose panel, one depicting the story of Lady Zhaojun; the other The Five Elders of Huichang, within a border of shou symbols, the back carved and pierced with birds and flowering foliage, the shaped double width seat inset with a rouge marble panel, the shaped apron decorated with deer, bats, flowering prunus and other auspicious motifs, raised on mythical beast carved carbriole supports on ball and claw feet, joined by double coin stretcher rails 111 x 108 x 59cm Condition: First example: Structurally appears sound. A chip and repair to foot on back leg, dowel protruding slightly. Sun fading to arm rests, top rail, seat and back rest. Some light scratching and wear to the porcelain, including a small area of yellow glaze loss above the pine tree (see image). Marble seat appears intact but there is an area of white abrasion to the left hand side (see image). Metal clips holding back panels of porcelain are modern replacements. Some occasional mother of pearl losses, primarily on the border of the seat and other small areas. A ring mark to the left hand arm rest. Second example: There is some slight movement in the joints, side aprons also with some movement. Some light fading to top rail and coin base. Two small, likely natural, fissures to the front of the marble seat terminating at the front and with some very small chips where the marble meets the wood frame (see image). Very occasional mother of pearl loss, including the bat at the centre of the top rail; to one of the fruit in the pierced section beside; the right hand side border of the seat.
