A late 19th century Dutch (?) courtsword, slender foil type blade 29”, by Wilkinson, Pall Mall, the elaborately embossed brass hilt having large shell guard with crowned “W” within wreath of oak and laurel, and wire bound ribbed mother of pearl grips. J Hoskin was listed as the ship's chief steward in the Sydney Morning Herald 12/11/1890 but no information is given as to the reason he was awarded this ring.
