A large Victorian bow fronted mahogany chest of two short and three graduating long drawers, the drawers fitted throughout with cock-beaded borders enclosing flamed veneers, with turned handles, all except one centred with a mother-of-pearl roundel, flanked by embedded column sides with scrolling capitols, raised on tapering fluted legs flanking a shaped apron base, 128 cm high, 128.5 cm wide, 55.5 cm deep.

Gilt crowned star bearing facetted silver overlay mounted with oak wreath surrounding “2ND SOMERSET REGT” strap with drooping scroll “DEFENDEMUS”; gilt VR cypher mounted to domed gilt centre. Two loops to reverse. Service wear, top pearl of crown and rear wires to crown now absent. GCOriginally raised 22.3.1759 at Bath. Redesigned as 2nd Somerset Light Infantry on 12.2.1876 and became the 4th Bn. of the Somerset Light Infantry 1.7.1881
German Third Reich Government Official’s dagger and knot by Alcoso, Solingen circa 1939-42.A fine rare example with simulated mother of pearl grip and silver plated mounts. Eagle’s head ornamented pommel, crossguard and langet bearing an eagle and swastika facing same way as pommel. Plain polished double-edged blade etched with maker’s scales logo. Reverse of ferrule, crossguard and scabbard throat with matching number ‘2’. Housed in its finely pebbled plated scabbard with fine oakleaf bands supporting both loose suspension rings. Complete with original aluminium wire portepee (knot). VGCIntroduced in March 1939; production ceased in mid 1942.
