A First Quarter 20th Century Fan, the monture an attractive pink Mother of Pearl, the leaf, mounted à l'Anglaise consisting of a white Brussels bobbin lace surround enclosing a painting on silk? of an elegant lady wearing a pink robe à la Polonaise feeding white doves. Signed to the right ''H Varennes''. The verso is decorated with scrolling, garlands of flowers and tiny birds in flight. Contained in a cream card fan box with satin exterior marked in gold inside the lid for J Duvelleroy, 167 Regent Street London with the additional detail ''Manufactured in Paris''. Guard length 9 7/8 inches or 25cm.. Clean and sound. The silk exterior of the box is worn.

A Late 19th Century Painted Fan, the ornate and substantial gorge perhaps indicating origins in Spain, complementing the scene of a lady appearing at her window overlooking the square of a Spanish pueblo, her attention drawn by the swordfight below, presumably in respect of her hand. The victor would appear to be the suitor to the left in plumed hat and cloak, as his opponent's sword lies on the stone. The verso is plain cream silk. Both gorge and guards are heavily decorated pierced white mother-of-pearl, the recto with substantial gilding and silvering to the reserves, enclosing a white mother-of-pearl figurative cartouche, showing two 18th century couples in their evening grandeur dancing in a clearing. This scene is backed with very thin mother-of-pearl. Together with an unlabelled card fan box. Guard length approx. 9.75 inches or 25cm. Some of the MOP backing in the gorge scene has been crudely replaced. Repair to lower guard.

An Attractive, Large 1890's Cream Gauze Fan painted with branches of lilac blossom in shades of purple and white blooms with delicate flowers. Mounted on pink mother-of-pearl, signed indistinctly with three names to the right, and ''95''. The verso is plain. Together with A 1880's Bone Fan with cream silk satin leaf, the monture gently incised, the gorge with a central flower, the stem to the left and further foliage to the right. The leaf is well painted with three small brown birds in flight, a wasp just slightly ahead. The verso is plain; and a simple bone fan, late 18th to early 19th century, the double turquoise leaf embroidered to one side with silver sequins, the top edged in silver foil. . The lilac fan has staining to each far side, and some foxing, plus damage to the monture including a repair to the upper guard. The satin fan has one small brown mark to the centre gorge. Fan 3 has rubbing to the folds.

A Good Solid Century 1880's Tortoiseshell Brisé Fan with the addition of pierced gilded metal guards adorned with mother-of-pearl, turquoises and garnets, designed with formal ovals and patterns. Fifteen wedge-shaped inner sticks and two guards. Metal chain acting as a loop, with a further ring attached. Guard length approx. 8.25 inches or 21cm.. A ribbon present but not correctly threaded. One guard missing 2 turquoise stones, the other missing one garnet. Existing turquoise is discoloured in various places.

A Fine and Rare Bucks Lace Fan from around 1900/1910. On a monture of pink mother-of-pearl, attractively gilded, the crisp and clean leaf is a rare example of Buckinghamshire Bobbin lace. The design of flowers and ribbons, with different fillings and quite open net, gives this fan a very light and airy appearance. Guard length 9.25 inches or 23.5cm.. Very clean and sound.

An Unusual Pale Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, dated 21.8.1911, mounted with a mixed Brussels lace leaf, the needle lace of particular complexity. The monture has interesting features: the upper guard is shaped, gilded, and dated just below a monogram. A gold shell decorates the very tip. The lower guard features a small bird. The leaf, with reserves of Brussels bobbin lace, incorporates a panel of cream silk gauze, which has been painted in soft pale blue to show sky and water, two couples in 18th century dress seen taking a stroll towards steps leading to a stone bridge and elaborate building or pergola, this section of the leaf being worked in Brussels Point de Gaze needle lace, forming the stones and urns and decoration to the balustrade, the pointed roof and the window at the top. Contained in a wood fan box with duck egg blue exterior and metal catches, the interior lined and padded with ruched cream silk. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm.. The upper guard has a repair at the shoulder. The lower guard has a replacement panel of white MOP to the outside which does not match the original. One bone rib has been reinforced at the shoulder. No splitting noted to the painted panel.

A Late 19th Century Brussels Lace Fan, the Point de Gaze needle lace leaf mounted on resin or ''blonde tortoiseshell'', The upper guard adorned with entwined white mother-of-pearl initials, possibly AG. The leaf is designed with a regular top and side border in heart shapes. The main body of the leaf, the ground of hand made net, features large floral sprays, several with clustered flowers, perhaps lilac, and variously shaped leaves. Guard length 11 inches or 28cm.. Several very slight breaks in the net ground.

A Similar Large Late 19th Century Brussels Point De Gaze Needle Lace Fan Leaf, dismounted, featuring three large sprays of roses, complemented by several large and detailed clusters of smaller flowers, and leaves. Depth top centre to bottom, 8 inches or 20.5cm, span approx. 24.75 inches or 63cm but hard to measure see condition report. Together with A Circa 1900/1910 Mixed Brussels Lace Fan, the leaf with central needle lace motif of flowers mounted onto pale pink mother-of-pearl sticks, bone ribs, the monture lightly carved, gilded and silvered. To each side, bobbin lace flowers and panels. The shaped metal loop is finished with a knotted cream silk tassel. Guard length 9 inches or 23cm. (2)The lace leaf has been washed and is therefore crumpled which makes it hard to measure accurately. It has still a slight mark, and there are a few holes in the ground where ribs may well have been positioned. The fan is generally in good order, one hole noted in the central net panel.

A Late 19th Century/Early 20th Century Mixed Brussels Lace Fan, the central flower a Point de Gaze needle lace rose and smaller flowers and leaves. To each side, a large bobbin lace flower with raised inner petals, contained within a swag reminiscent of Ghent Valenciennes. The remainer of the bobbin leaf is filled with leaves and flowers. The mother-of-pearl monture, with a light pink tinge, is carved, gilded and silvered. A rope effect gold metal loop holds a cream silk knotted tassel. Bone ribs. Contained in an unlabelled card fan box covered in cream silk. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm.. One central rib is broken but holding well. The leaf has been removed and washed white. The fan box is sound but the silk is stained blue on the front edge of the bottom section, and the silk is worn in places.

An Early 20th Century Mother-of-Pearl Fan with an embroidered net leaf, most likely Limerick lace, the pearl the green/pink of burgau. The design, of flowers and leaves, fills the whole leaf. Guard length 8 and 3/8 inches or 21.5cm. Together with Another Mother-of-Pearl Fan of the same period, the leaf of Brussels Mixed lace, having two side panels of net featuring sprays of Point de Gaze roses with raised petals. Centrally, a large bobbin lace flower, matching those along the top border. Guard length 8 inches or 20.5cm. (2). The Limerick fan leaf has been dyed pale beige. The pink MOP fan has two repaired guards, metal panels, one of which is engraved with the initial J.

A Large Circa 1900 Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture lightly carved and slightly pierced, gilded and silvered. The bobbin lace leaf is of Flemish Rosaline, the name deriving from the small flowers joined by brides which always feature in the design. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm. Good.

An Attractive Floral Black Lace Fan, most likely Chantilly, circa 1900, the leaf incorporating a central painted gauze panel painted with a fairy-like maiden in blue flowing gown, large wings unfolded, these being highlighted with minute silver sequins. The monture, quite plain, is of resin or ''blonde tortoiseshell''. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm. Together with A White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture carved, gilded and silvered. The Brussels Mixed Lace Leaf features a Point de Gaze needle lace flower spray applied to net to the centre, the remaining leaf worked with typical Belgian bobbin lace flowers and leaves. Guard length 8.5 inches or 21.5cm (2). In good order, slightly rubbed gorge and the shoulder of one stick has slight wear. A one-inch split noted to the ground, to the lower left near the first stick in. Break to the loop. The lace leaf on fan 2 has most likely been remounted after washing.

Ghent Valenciennes, A Very Fine Handmade Bobbin Lace Leaf, circa 1900, mounted on plain pink mother-of-pearl sticks and continuous ribs. Mainly guipure (with brides), a small central shield-shaped panel features design on net, which contrast well with the more open work to the reserves. Many of the flowers and leaves feature very fine fillings. A fine quality produced by a very competent lace maker. Guard length 9 inches or 23cm.. Very good in terms of the leaf. The MOP ribs have at least 2 discreet MOP splints repairing breaks.

A Late 19th Century Medium Size Brussels Point De Gaze Needle Lace Fan, the monture of a bright and shiny slightly pink mother-of-pearl, plain other than chamfered guards. Barrel rivet. The floral lace leaf, with handmade ground, is designed with large roses, smaller leaves, and several panels of lattice fillings. Guard length 10 inches or 25.5cm. Contained in a cream card fan box, unlabelled.. Clean and bright, original thread colour. Box a little battered but serviceable.

An Unusual Lace 19th Century Brussels Point De Gaze Lace Fan, the monture a soft pink mother-of-pearl, lightly carved, gilded, with coloured highlights to gorge and guards. The needle lace leaf design incorporates three traditional flower baskets containing roses with raised petals, the baskets themselves worked with tiny detail. Two further features, one to the right with a jug, and to the left a trug containing gardening implements, are uncommon and were most likely specially commissioned. The leaf is bordered with complex motifs incorporating multiple delicate filings. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm.. Generally good but with several small areas of damage to the net ground.

A Late 19th Century Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture unadorned, the needle lace leaf of Brussels Point de Gaze with a detailed butterfly worked in the centre. A large spray of roses surrounds the butterfly, with further large roses to the side, the reserves worked with trailing tendrils of stems and leaves. Skilled workmanship, handmade ground. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm.. Good, lace crisp and unwashed.

A Late 19th Century White Mother-of-Pearl Fan with bone ribs, the leaf of Brussels Bobbin Appliqué, the design featuring three large roses, small and medium flowers and leaves filling the background, made to feel light and airy with the addition of tiny dots. The simple silver metal loop is finished with a cotton cord leading to a knotted silk tassel. Guard length 11 inches or 28cm.Together with A Later White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture carved, gilded and silvered, the leaf of Brussels Point de Gaze needle lace with a few unusual features. Six roses of a similar design feature across the leaf. To the top and bottom right, three small roses have raised petals. The lower section of the leaf is worked more openly, and here and there bands of roundels with complex fillings fill in between top and bottom borders. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm. (2). First fan, one gorge stick needs to be re-secured. Tiny dent in the upper guard near the shoulder. Second fan, the upper guard is broken an inch above the rivet but the overlap is there for repair. A sliver of MOP missing, but a repair would most likely be feasible. The leaf has possibly been washed.

A Late 19th Century Plain White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the deep leaf of Brussels Point de Gaze needle lace, worked centrally with initials surmounted by a coronet with seven pearls. The body of the leaf is designed with gently meandering stems of small leaves and roses. The metal loop is fitted with a simple cream silk tassel plus a silk loop with which to keep the fan closed when not in use. Guard length 011 inches or 28cm.. Good. The leaf has been stained a dark beige at some point.

Two Early 20th Century Lace Fans, the first of plain pink mother-of-pearl, bone ribs supporting a cream silk leaf of Maltese bobbin lace. Formed with two bands of lace, the upper section is designed with flowers formed from wheatears, alternating with roundels filled with a lattice, the upper edge scalloped. Centrally, the characteristic Maltese Cross. On the lower, wider band, meandering stems and leaves emerge from both sides to meet in the middle. Fitted with a cream silk tassel. Contained in a green card fan box, the inner lid stating ''Dickens and Jones Ltd. Fan Specialist. Regent Street, London W''. Guard length 7.7/8 inches or 20cm. The second fan consists of a tapelace leaf, backed with a fine net, with design and fillings that most likely indicate Branscome lace. Gold sequins are embroidered here and there. The upper guard is carved and pierced with cornflowers, lightly coloured in blue. Guard length 8.5 inches or 21.5cm.. The Maltese fan is in good order. On the box lid, in pen, it says “Lace from Kit & ????”. The second fan's tassel is wearing thin.

A Very Attractive Circa 1900 Brussels Needle Lace Fan, the Art Nouveau designed leaf mounted onto slightly pink mother-of-pearl sticks and continuous ribs, the guards and gorge carved, pierced, gilded and silvered. The crisp needle lace leaf is designed with large, intricate, stylised flowers and leaves along the top border, the main body of the fan featuring meandering stems and smaller flowers in different sizes and varieties. Handmade ground with the addition of tiny dots. The plain metal loop is fitted with a good cream silk knotted tassel. Contained in a card fan box covered in cream silk, the inside lid printed with J Duvelleroy, 17 Passage des Panoramas and 8-11 Boul'd de la Madelaine'' (Paris). Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm.. In very good order, original thread colour, crisp leaf.

Two Attractive Lace Fans, first quarter of the 20th century, the first with mother-of-pearl monture in shades of green and pink (Burgau), mounted with a chemical lace leaf (machine, not hand worked) with a design in the floral style of Brussels Point de Gaze. The second fan, the monture of dark tortoiseshell, is mounted with a handmade lace leaf, mixed Brussels, the central rose of needle lace, the leaves bobbin lace, and the reserves bobbin. Together with a cream card fan box with gold decoration to the lid exterior (2). The MOP fan has a repair to the lower guard. The tortoiseshell leaf has been removed for washing and is not sitting correctly.

A Late 19th Century Brussels Bobbin Lace Fan, the leaf mounted on white mother-of-pearl, the design of flowers and leaves. Together with A Black Lace Fan, backed in cream, designed with vertical lattice and floral sprays, the leaf mounted on carved and attractively pierced wood sticks, and Another Brussels Bobbin Lace Fan, the leaf mounted on tortoiseshell, with tortoiseshell ribs (3). A lot of dark orange glue staining on the Brussels leaf, mainly on the guards. Some ribs not secured in place. The black lace fan has some minor wear to the top edge. Some slight splitting to the lower edge of the cream fabric back. The final fan has some brown glue residue.

A Large Brussels Bobbin Lace Fan, the lace enclosing a white gauze panel painted with lilac, pink blossom, and a single bee seeking pollen. The monture, of good white Mother of Pearl, is lightly gilded to the top of each guard, the gorge sticks each with a single flower.. Metal plate repair to lower guard.

A Good Late 19th Century Brussels Bobbin Lace Fan, the guipure lace mounted on a sturdy white Mother of Pearl monture. A central design of flowers enclosed in a fern wreath. Contained in a card fan box attributed in gold inside the lid to J Duvelleroy, 167 Regent Street, London. Guard length approx. 9.75 inches or 25cm.. Clean (the odd faint foxing). One bone rib broken sound.

A Very Light and Pretty White Machine Lace Fan, replicating Brussels Point de Gaze design, enclosing a central painted and signed silk panel featuring a lady in pink open robe and extravagant hat waiting by a stile as if for an assignation. The signature, by her feet, is indistinct. The monture, of pink/green mother-of-pearl, is gilded and silvered in a floral design. Circa1900-1920's. . The leaf is sound, the lower guard has broken and the section is available.

A Circa 1860's Green/Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan (Burgau), with very attractive engraving to the monture, a shaped gold metal loop and diamanté to the rivet. The leaf, mounted against a strong ruby silk satin, is a good example of Brussels Bobbin Appliqué, with floral sprays and leaves in different forms, side and top borders and central scrolling. The verso is plain. Marked on the verso for GESLIN PARIS. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm.. The leaf is clean and good colour, as is the silk. The monture has had some professional repair to both guards and four inner sticks, causing the fan to splay a little.

Lot 5160

Two Late 19th/Early 20th Century Fans, the first a small pink mother-of-pearl example, a Brussels/Bruges bobbin lace leaf mounted on bone ribs. The second fan, much larger, the monture of shaped wood painted matt white, and silvered, is to be noted for the intricacy of the upper leaf. Each stick runs the full height of the fan, and has slots made to thread the narrow cream ribbon which forms seventeen horizontal bands. The ribbon ends are trapped between each guard and the final stick each side. Backed with a lightweight cream gauze. When closed, the looped ribbons lie proud of the backing, to the recto. Guard length 13.75 inches or 35cm.. The ribbon work fan has a slightly ragged upper edge on the gauze and a few areas where the fabric has had some repair.

Circa 1860's A Black Chantilly Lace Fan backed with cream silk, and mounted on green/pink mother-of-pearl (burgau). Diamante to the rivet, gold metal loop. The bobbin lace is worked with a central floral spray and well-designed and detailed borders. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm.. Good, clean.

Lot 5164

A Good Late 19th/Early 20th Century Brussels Point De Gaze Needle Lace Fan, the leaf mounted à l'Anglaise on mother of pearl ribs, the strong design featuring sunflowers with raised stamens. The monture, a pretty shade of green/pink, probably burgau, is also gilded, with small flowers and leaves on the guards and shoulders of the gorge, a line of foliage also passing down the length of each stick to the left side. Guard length approx. 10 and 5/8 inches or 27cm.. Very good, clean, firm. Note imperfections to the MOP to the rear of the gorge sticks.

A Good Late 19th Century Brussels Needle Lace Fan Leaf with geometric design, mounted on mother-of-pearl ribs, on green/pink mother-of-pearl (burgau) with piercing to the upper guard, a panel left bare for initials. The form of the repeated lace design is reminiscent of an open brisé fan. The inner designs are a complex creation by the lace designer, with multiple fillings, and in the centre are entwined initials, ''S?''. Guard length 11 inches or 28cm.. One rib and gorge stick have parted company but are present, breaks and some loss to ribs.

A Good Circa 1900-1910 Brussels Bobbin Lace Fan, the leaf with a background of black net, applied with six exquisitely worked butterflies or moths, wings outspread, approaching flowers. Superb detail to the creatures, using whole and half stitch, a variety of fillings, relief for the eyes, and a cobweb effect above and amongst the flowers. Embroidered with silver sequins and spangles to provide highlights. The monture, of dusky mother-of-pearl, is shaped to undulate and is adorned with tiny daisies. Diamanté rivet, black wood ribs. Overall height approx. 11 inches or 28cm, the leaf raising slightly proud of the guards. Contained in a good woven floral brocade covered fabric fan box, lined in rose pink, marked inside the lid, in gold, ''Manufactured in Paris'' and J. Duvelleroy Paris, by Appointment, London 167 Regent Street''. Very good excepting the tarnish to the majority of the sequins. Firm clasp to box.

Initialled ''SH'', A Late 19th Century Brussels Bobbin Lace Fan embroidered with silver sequins, mounted on light pink mother-of-pearl. The upper guard is fitted with the entwined initials ''S H'', which are repeated in gold on the lid of the cream silk covered card fan box. Shaped head. The box is lined inside with cream silk and the inner lid is marked in gold for ''Ernest Kees Fabrique d'éventails, 8 Boulevard des Capucines, Paris''. Guard length 12.25 inches or 31.5cm.. The box is sound, the exterior silk somewhat scuffed and grubby. The fan ribs appear in several cases to have been re-secured to the gorge sticks.

A Late 19th Century Lace Fan, the intricate monture of light pink mother-of-pearl, carved and pierced with thin sheets of mother-of-pearl backing that offsets the delicacy of design. The fine quality handmade Belgian lace leaf, possibly with an element of Ghent Valenciennes, is beautifully designed with a central floral feature and two side vignettes, the whole incorporating several different flowers and leaves, and clever use of shading. Contained in a card fan box covered in blue paper. Guard length 11.25 inches or 28.5cm. . Small repair to the lace leaf, top centre.

Lot 5174

Two Ostrich Feather Fans, one from the late 19th century with white plumes, the other early 20th century with long feathers shaded from coral to light pink. The first fan, mounted on white mother of pearl, has a detachable feather on the upper guard to use in the hair, and is fitted with a small pencil on a cord, for marking a dance card. Height at the centre 17.5 inches or 44.5cm. The colourful fan, with a '20's monture of light resin, is much larger, and the feathers curl over at the tips. Overall height 26 inches or 66cm.. Generally good for both fans. On each a rib appears to have been re-secured.

A Good Japanese Folding Fan, Ogi, circa 1870's, Meiji period, with ivory monture, the guards decorated with gold lacquer, featuring birds and insects among floral stems, and inset with shibayama, with white mother-of-pearl flowers and berries in coral. The plain gorge sticks are gently serrated at each side. The double paper leaf depicts a hunting scene, one hunter seated on a horse bedecked with red skirts, a hawk or other bird of prey held ready to release. Slightly ahead, his beater, with a white dog. The rural background, with local habitation, ends with mountain ranges. Gold borders to the top and bottom of the leaf. The verso features a pair of birds pecking for food in the bushes beside a river, the male much larger than his mate, with long tail feathers. A large hydrangea bush and smaller plant with pink flowers attract insects. Fitted with a bi-colour silk cord ending in a large double silk tassel, both in shades of cream and deep purple. Guard length approx. 10 5/8 inches or 27cm.. Sound, some rubbing to the folds and general foxing to the paper.

An Early 20th Century Chinese Fan, the sticks and ribs of tortoiseshell, the cream gauze leaf embroidered in pastel silks with a dragon and pearl. The verso is plain, the leaf mounted à l'Anglaise. Fitted with a heavy cream silk tassel. Together with A Simple Pierced Bone Fan of the tea ceremony variety; and A Fixed Fan or Face Screen entirely of tortoiseshell, shaped, and pierced, the central detail including a double-headed bird or beast. Formed in two sections, the screen and the handle. Length approx. 8.25 inches or 21cm by 5 inches or 12.5cm at the widest point (3). Slight foxing to the first fan, and some splitting to the leaf at the bottom edge.

A Good Early to Mid-18th Century Chinese Painted Ivory Folding Fan, Qing Dynasty, the simple monture with mother-of-pearl tips to the guards, each etched with a slender bird, with the addition of mother of pearl thumb guards. The remaining guards, and the gorge sticks, are painted in red, gold and green, in the fashion of Imari porcelain. The double paper leaf is painted with men at work, one carrying his wares or delivering luggage, by means of a pole balanced across his shoulder. A seated figure with fixed fan observes. To the right a large bird to the foreground is of disproportionate size. The verso is plain, save for a floral sketch. Guard length approx. 10.75 inches or 27.5cm. Together with Another Chinese Ivory Fan, of a similar period, the guards carved with flowers and leaves within an upper panel, above and below which the fan is painted in red. The gorge is carved and pierced in bands, some with a lattice, others with circles or shapes, divided by painted bands of designs in red. The cream leaf is simply painted with a central oval, in silver, enclosing a spray of pink roses and smaller yellow and blue flowers. Guard length approx. 11 inches or 28cm (2). First fan, the monture is sound with indications of white MOP thumb guards having originally been present. Both fans in good used condition

Lot 5283

A Very Unusual Crochet Miser's or Stocking Purse in reticule form, the central opening being across the width rather than the length, with a circular silver metal reticule frame attached, the top of the frame being a white mother-of-pearl panel with cut steel centre. Press-button clasp. Finished with a short silver metal chain. The body of the purse, which appears unused, and crisp, features a design of tulips and leaves, the same colours of cream and salmon used at each end but in mirror fashion. Each end has a weighty decorative cut steel fringe with various shapes of bead. Overall length 15.5 inches or 39.5cm.. Very good, clasp is firm, the bag is clean, some small losses to the steel fringing and a bit of rust to the inside of the frame lid.

Four Small and Very Fine Miser's or Stocking Purses, early 19th century, to include a raspberry net example, the money sections striped in shades of cream, green and brown. The ends are finished with an opalescent acorn, matching the centre of the gold metal slider. Possibly mother-of -pearl. The second purse in green net is embroidered with ruby silk and further decorated with gold beads. The silk tassels are formed from mainly green silk with some ruby threads Two gold metal sliders. The third purse, stripes alternating with salmon and silver metal threads, is finished with looped tassels of dull metal beads and two lightly engraved silver metal sliders. Finally, a visually striking silk purse in chevron design, each end a balance of cream and chestnut, the central panel predominantly in brown, with lines across that alternate between cream and yellow thread, seen on close examination. The gold metal sliders are embossed with flowers and leaves. . All appear sound except the second, green beaded example which has a large split in the central net.

A Victorian Brown Leather Sewing Companion lined in mauve silk and fitted in the lid for various ivory tools, the base compartment empty for the storage of work in progress (a few odd items inside); A Small Domed Leather Case fitted for tools, but empty, bone motif on the exterior; A Decorative, Shaped Case in pale mauve leather, the lid decorated with mother-of-pearl, the inside fitted with various sewing tools and a silver metal thimble, and A Red Leather Shoe with fittings inside (4). All used, first item catch difficult, no major issues to report.

Ten Mother-of-Pearl Sewing Items, to include a slender needle holder carved with flowers, shaped lower end, and a dog perched at the top; a similar needle holder, larger, carved more classically, the top section as feathers; a small and pretty pair of steel scissors, the handles of pearl; a small box marked ''needles'', containing small black packets of needles; a bone spool with pearl top; two rectangular thread winders or Chinese gaming counters, both carved, with a pair of love birds to one side and entwined initials to the other, plus three circular counters, also with birds, fruits and initials.. A chip inside the first item; the larger needle case has, for no apparent reason, the interior hole blocked up. The box has three chips to the lid and a crack to the bottom front right.

Four Good Small 19th Century Coin Purses with metal frames and differing designs, to include a pale yellow example worked with lilac wisteria and green leaves, having a shaped silver metal frame and with ornate yellow silk tassel. Inside, a note in old ink with provenance, and dated 31/01/84 and an address, of Sandall Grove, Doncaster, stating that ''these purses were worked by Grandmother Hudson's Great Aunt her name was ''L????'' they are mounted in solid silver''. No silver marks noted on this example, nor the next, which has a plain silver metal frame, the bag formed from woven beadwork in turquoise blue on a white ground, some areas worked in gold, silver and brown beads, the floral lower edge being the most colourful. Finished with two tiny tassels in matching beads and lined in cream kid; a third woven beadwork example with decorative frame, being of gold metal, inset with yellow and turquoise stones and white mother-of-pearl. The beadwork has an opaque ground with designs in navy blue, yellow, green, and russet. Lined in cream kid; and the final coin purse, lined in tan suede, with shaped gold metal frame embossed with tiny flowers, the beadwork ground in turquoise with darker beads to the central design and pastels for the border flowers.. Some slight damage at the join of frame to beadwork on the purse with MOP frame, where they tend to wear, and the same on the fourth purse.

Three Good 19th Century Coin Purses with gold metal frames, the first with a heavily embossed frame and tiny gold metal chain, two decorative gold metal bobbles at the bottom. Worked in a mix of silk and metal threads, the purse is designed in bands in coral, black, white, with designs incorporating those colours plus a hint of yellow. Unlined, and very firm. Next, a woven beaded example, the frame distinctive with an entwined serpent at each side, the slender top panel lightly embossed. The glass and gold metal beads are designed as flowers and trees. Lined in teal silk; finally, an early coin purse with a curved gold metal frame, a mythical winged beast to each side panel. One section is inlaid with white mother-of-pearl. The body of the bag, worked in green silks and gold metal thread, resembles spider's webs. Coiled metal thread tassel.. The first purse feels crisp, as new. Purse three is missing the panel of MOP to the second side of the frame. Tassel tarnished. Old price label for 375€. No marks noted for gold.

Two Attractive 19th Century Coin Purses, both with compartments inside, covered in pink Mother of Pearl. The first, looking rather like a visiting card case from the outside, is formed in diamond-shaped panels. The interior, covered in royal blue moiré silk, opens in concertina fashion with the catch on the longer sides. The smaller coin purse opens with a handbag style metal catch and is fitted with red glazed cotton interior. Accompanied by a modern white mother-of-pearl fan-shaped pendant and a plastic hair comb fitted with a curved fan at the top. Together with a spectacle case decorated with thin mother-of-pearl paillettes and pearls and seven hat pins, three with turquoise glass bead tops and four with similar in black, and a black machine lace and fabric fan, embellished with gold sequins, the leaf mounted on serpentine sticks.
