A Wedding Bodice and skirt from the 1880s/90s, the boned bodice has a square tucked lining in silk with a lower satin bodice with has a lace decoration front and back the gathered silk sleeves are of a trumped shape which has a central split, there is a lace Rossete on one shoulder, boned bodice by Madame Hanley of Chester. A Lace and Tulle Wedding Skirt in tiers, the pattern has tiny white beads and spots interfaced with satin roses, the underskirt of silk is completely shredded 1880s (could be replaced) and a small pearl dress. A silver plique a-jour enamel brooch/pendant in the form of a fairy/pixie, set with marcasite and green and red enamel details, oval cultured pearl dropper, length approx 60mm inc drop, width approx 42mm, roller clasp and bail to reverse, stamped 925, 10.5gms total gross weight approx. Condition report: Good- all stones and enamel present and intact, minor wear only
George Formby (1904-1961). His banjo ukulele, and the first to be played in a George Formby film, Off the Dole [1935]. After singing 'If you don't want the goods, don't maul 'em', George said, "It is a good ukulele". Bearing label for Will Van Allen, New Revelation Banjos, although this instrument may well have been made by Jack Abbott Snr.'s company in the early 1930s. 17 frets with mother-of-pearl dot position markers, 14 tension hooks, flange resonator. The instrument bears an engraved plaque with George's quote from Off the Dole (above). Complete with carrying case. The original vellum is mounted to the inside of case, and is inscribed, 'Mr. Formby', and, 'Mr Wu's a W. Cleaner'. Condition: Wear in accordance with age and usage, note the two rubbed marks to the back of the body, which were caused by George's buttons rubbing against the instrumentProvenance: Originally included in the 1961 Beryldene Estate sale, but withdrawn by George's fiance Pat Howson; it was then purchased by Rex Blaker (second owner); Stan Evans (third owner); our vendor (fourth owner). The instrument comes with an entry form relating to its loan to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery; scanned stills showing the instrument being handled and discussed on several television shows (including Richard & Judy, 1991); a newspaper clipping from the Daily Post, 1998, showing Stan Evans playing the instrument; a newspaper clipping from the Manchester Evening News, 1991, showing George's sister Louisa de Hailes posing with the instrument
George Formby (1904-1961). His banjo ukulele, Dallas Model C (C/2364), 16 frets with mother-of-pearl dot position markers, 10 tension hooks, flange resonator. Complete with original carrying case bearing inscription, 'Low' (in George's hand), and mounted envelope, inscribed, 'Uke in D, Low' (again in George's hand), which allowed George to identify the correct instrument as he didn't read music. The case includes a sealed/unopened packet of George Formby strings. Condition: Wear in accordance with age and usageProvenance: Originally purchased by George's brother Frank Formby as Lot 449 in the 1961 Beryldene Estate sale; it was then purchased by William Logan (second owner); Alan Randall (third owner); Mike Metcalfe (fourth owner); Bob Norton (fifth owner); our vendor (sixth owner). The instrument comes with a signed letter of authenticity from William Logan, dated 29 March 1995; two signed letters from Stan Evans (on behalf of The George Formby Society), addressed to Bob Norton, 1993; a copy of the Indemnity certifying that the instrument (Serial No: C/2364) was indeed Lot 449 in the Beryldene sale held by J. Entwistle & Co., 1961
