An Australian diamond set bangle by Steve Bower, of hinged oval ebonised wood form, inset with round brilliant-cut diamonds and beaded swirls, with yellow precious metal mounts, signed and stamped '750', with date code for 1990, maker's mark SJB, a single stone pendant by the same maker, signed and stamped 'SILVER', and two freshwater pearl collar necklaces, each with cord suspension, the fittings stamped '750', bangle total diamond weight approximately 0.15ct, inner diameter 6.3cm (4)Condition report: Bangle only: Scuffs, scratches and nicks to ebonised wood body and yellow metal fittings of bangle, with a curved deeper scratch running from the body to the yellow metal clasp. There is also a circular fracture to one side of the body and small areas of whiteish staining/discolouration to the other side. The yellow metal beads have surface wear and both the clasp and hinge are functioning. Diamonds are well matched and fairly bright and lively, in closed-back settings, some stones with fracture inclusions and small surface fractures that are visible under magnification. Marks are clearly struck. Width approx. 1.45cm.

Some of the pearls are bouton in shape and the lower pearl drop has pitting to the surface. Diamonds are mostly well matched and fairly bright, occasional stones with small chips/fractures. The central pearl and baton above/below are tilting to one side and the threaded aperture directly behind is also tilting to one side. This causes the detachable fitting to sit at an angle to the mount when worn. The detachable fitting is functioning but the visor catch may be later replaced. The mount has surface wear, scuffs and nicks throughout. There is a small dark solder repair to the tip of the bale fitting and an area of brown glue residue to the tip of the lower pearl drop. Pearls are untested as cultured/natural and their origin is therefore unknown. Pearls graduate from approximately 3.8mm to 2.6mm in diameter. Largest diamond weight approx. 0.04ct. The mount is not marked and metal standard unknown. Gross weight approx. 6.6gm.

A citrine and seed pearl fringe necklace, the fringe of graduated oval mixed-cut citrines suspended from a seed pearl single strand necklace, (one citrine deficient, pearls untested for origin), length 34cmCondition report: This necklace is short in length and some seed pearls may be missing to one side, where the seed pearl strand is detached from the clasp. One outer citrine is also missing. The citrines have general surface wear, chips and fractures and some stones have straight whiteish colour zoning that is visible to the unaided eye. The seed pearls have variable tints and are mostly baroque/uneven in outline, with fractures, creases and scuffs to the surface. Some of the seed pearls have dirt residue to the surface and may require gentle cleaning. The clasp is tight fitting. Gross weight approx. 10.8gm.

IV. 7', in fitted case with 'STAR OF SNOWDOUN, Zech. iv. 6; Luke xi. 9, 1859' to lining, (half pearl untested for origin, fitting later replaced), brooch length 7.9cmFootnote: One of several brooches commissioned in 1859 for female members of the Drummond family, the 'Star of Snowdoun Purity Brooch' celebrated the inauguration of The Virgin Martyrs' memorial in The Valley Cemetery, Stirling. Funded by the Drummond family and sculpted by Alexander Handyside Ritchie, the memorial depicts marble sculptures of two women covenanters, Margaret Wilson and Margaret McLaughlan, who were sentenced to death by drowning in the tidal waters of the Solway, for their faith, on 11 May 1685. A third girl, Margaret Wilson’s younger sister Agnes, was spared because of her age.This brooch features a half pearl, to symbolise purity and the Christian name Margaret, three forget-me-nots, to commemorate the women involved, and a laurel wreath to represent martyrdom, in tribute to those who died for their religious beliefs during this period in Scotland, sometimes referred to as 'the killing times'. Three similar brooches can be found in the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum.
