A late 19th century French gilt brass 8-day 'Marine' Mantel Clock, the circular dial with black Roman numerals within a frame modelled as a ship's wheel, anchor and crossed cannon, set of a rectangular black base with presentation plaque inscribed to Captain Tynte F. Hammill R.N., 10in (25.25cm) high. Note: Captain Tynte Ford Hammill, R.N., C.B. (1852-1894), born Bridgewater, Somerset. Captain Hammill was commander of the Monarch under Admiral Fairfax at the Bombardment of Alexandria. He also served at Port Said and in the Soudan and took part in the Egyptian expedition for the relief of Gordon. Died of Maltese fever at Gosport.
