A very heavy and imposing black marble/slate mantel clock the gilded detail face with Arabic numerals, the two-train movement by Japy Freres striking the hours on a gong and regulated by a spindle above the 12 o'clock position. The case is flanked by scrolls and features fluted pillars with Corinthian capitals, the lower frieze depicting Angels in flight. The winding/regulating key is present as is the pendulum but the suspension springs to the pendulum require attention. A presentation plaque appears to have been removed from the plinth. The clock is 18 3/16" wide, 6 15/16" deep and 15 7/8" high, approx.
