A 19th Century gilt brass cased mantel clock the eight day movement by Japy Freres of Paris the circular painted porcelain dial with central river landscape decoration inscribed Ernest Miroy Paris within a chapter ring of Roman numerals over a further painted panel depicting two figures in an interior flanked by further river landscapes raised on lions paw feet and carved giltwood stand CONDITION REPORTS Some light surface scratches. A build up of dust in areas. Accretions. Small areas of tarnishing to the brass. The raised white dot of enamel below the number 11 has partially come away. The gilt wood base has some wear and there are splits to the silk lining on the base. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use. See photos for more details.

Additional InformationNeither clock tested, no guarantees of working order, the first with general wear and tear throughout, some spotting and dirt to the dial, scratches, applies to the second clock also, this clock also has a significant gouge and damage to the top, with crazing to the veneer.
LENZKIRCH; a late 19th century German mahogany cased mantel clock of architectural form with carved foliate detail, the chapter ring set with Roman numerals and with brass spandrels, with presentation plaque 'Presented to A.H. Jackson by his brothers Sep. 2 1891', the movement stamped and no. 118797, height 36.5cm.Additional InformationNot tested, no guarantee of working order, chapter ring would originally have had a plated finish but that now has been lost and a copper colour coming through, general light wear, some small rubbing to the colouring of the numerals, some scratches, etc, case generally ok with only some light wear and some scratches to top.

(30cm.) high., *Condition:Winds and runs. Strikes correctly. Gilt metal mounts regilded. Brass inlay lifting slightly in a couple of places but good overall. Dial VG. With key.
A 19th century French brass mantel clock, with three train movement striking on two gongs, cross hatched gilt dial with silvered Roman chapter ring, the upright case with red side glasses, all over cast and engraved Baroque decoration of foliage, classical ruins, caryatids and grotesque masks, the platform top with two tigers with their prey, raised on four mask scroll supports with turned feet, 11¼in. (28.5cm.) high, movement a/f. , *Condition:Pendulum suspension cord broken and requires replacement. Minute hand loose on dial. One striking hammer detached and the other bent. Surface rust to gongs. Movement will require repair. No backplate. Case good but dirty.
A French 19th century gilt metal cherub mantel clock by Baume & Lezard, the gilt metal case in the Louis XVI taste, with ornate scroll, rocaille, foliate and floral decoration, surmounted by a seated cherub artist seated upon rockwork, the white enamel 3 1/8in. dial with black Roman numerals, signed 'BAUME & LEZARD PARIS', the Vincente & Cie eight day movement with outside countwheel strike, striking the hours and half hours on a bell, signed 'BAUME & LEZARD A PARIS' AND NUMBERED B577, with bob pendulum, 14¼in. (36.25cm.) high, dial cracked., *Condition:Dial cracked in several places and has chip at 12.30. Clocks winds and runs, strikes correctly. Some spotted tarnishing to gilt cherub, a little wear to gilt on edges and raised detail. Lacks cover panel to movement to rear.

GOTHIC REVIVAL BRASS MANTEL CLOCK, CIRCA 1870 the twin train movement striking a bell inscribed GV/ 1507, the triangular brass case mounted with an agate set finial above three flower roundels set with coloured glass cabochons, the whole raised on shaped square feet 21.5cm wide, 27cm high Literature: Charlotte Gere, Charlotte & Michael Whiteway, Michael, '19th Century Design from Pugin to Mackintosh', W&N 1993, p. 118 where a similar example is illustrated. Note: Talbert trained as an architect before becoming one of the leading exponents of the Reformed Gothic style. This clock, designed circa 1871, was illustrated in 'The Illustrated Catalogue of Gothic & other Artistic Domestic Furniture, Fittings, Decorations, Upholstery & Metal work', published by Cox & Sons in 1872.

Roman numeric dial marked J W Benson, with exposed cog work revealing the 8-day movement, in a Neo Classical polished bronze case, with brass additions, an inverted front and further plaque reading The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Sheffield 16th August 1875, the back plate numbered 64, striking on the hour and half hours, in a break front case, 42cm H.The clock was probably made for the opening of Firth Park when Edward Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra formally opened it, on the date above. James W Benson (1826-1878)had several Royal Warrants, with premises in Cornhill, Ludgate Hill and Old Bond Street.
