Daughter of Joséphine de Beauharnais and Alexandre François Marie, Viscount of Beauharnais, she became Napoleon's stepdaughter in 1796. She married Louis Bonaparte, Napoleon's brother in 1802 and when he was crowned king of Holland in 1806, she accompanied him to the Hague. By 1810 the marriage was over. She had three legitimate sons, one would become Napoleon III, as well as an illegitimate one.
