Lot 290

A 19th century French boulle mantel clock, the 14 cm dial with silvered chapter ring, the red tortoiseshell and gilt brass case with ormolu mounts, Old Father Time above the dial, cherub surmount, Napoleon oval plaque to the base with Thuret signature above, glazed side panels, the movement signed Ls. Moinett and with Japy Freres stamp, no pendulum or bell, 47cm. Thuret is listed in Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes as working in Paris circa 1855-1900. Louis Moinet (1768-1853), worked with the esteemed clockmaker, Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) as his technical secretary and was a highly esteemed horologist, inventor, scholar and as a maker of precision instruments became President of the Chronometry Society in Paris.

A French 19th century porcelain and ormolu mantel clock, the polychrome dial with blue Roman numerals, the Gothic case with knights to the niches, the porcelain panels depicting French kings and queens, the movement by P.L. numbered 1106, striking the hours and half on a bell, pendulum, 51cm One porcelaine panel missing (rear right side base) see picture.Otherwise in very good condition, showing no damage or repairs.The movement winds, sets and chimes, although only ticks for a few minutes and then stops - in need of attention.
