A large continental carved hardwood mantel clock, fashioned as a bird of prey on a rocky outcrop, the dial bearing enamel roman numerals, 59cm tall Condition Report: Generally good. Some areas of repair where wood has been re-glued, but no major structural damage. Clock is working order with key.

Having a pierced dome form top with a Roman bust finial, raised on a rouge marble base. Two key wind movement marked "Lerolle Paris 550" and bearing the Japy Freres circular seal and also marked "P.Lth 58" at the bottom of the works.
A Regency small eight-day fusee mantel clock movement Murray and Strachan, London, circa 1820 The circular four pillar twin chain fusee rack-striking movement with anchor escapement and signed Murray & Strachan, Royal Exchange, LONDON to backplate, the frontplate stamped with serial number 5614 , 9.2cm (3.5ins approx.) diameter. James Murray was born in 1780, he gained his freedom of the Clockmakers' Company in 1815, was elevated to the Livery in 1817 and is thought to have worked until his death in 1847. He is perhaps best known as a maker of marine chronometers and other precision timekeepers; James Weddell took three chronometers supplied by Murray on his third Antarctic expedition 1822-4. The partnership between James Murray and Strachan is recorded in Bailie, G.H Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as operating 1820-4.
