A French ormolu and porcelain mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with the backplate stamped with the serial number 31488, the pink porcelain dial decorated with painted flowers to the centre and gilt and coloured swags between each numeral, with black Roman numerals and brass spade hands, with pink porcelain panels to the shaped base and a further curved panel below the dial depicting the head of a female, the ormolu case with shaped sides and with chased and matted gilt floral mounts and surmounted by a matching mount depicting a winner's wreath, an Olympic torch and a quiver of arrows, seated on a carved, shaped gilt-wood base, height 36cm, including base.

Japy & Co for Harrods, an Edwardian French mahogany mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with the backplate stamped with the trademark for the movement maker L.P. Japy & Co along with that of the clock maker Richard et Cie, Paris, the round white enamel dial having black Arabic numerals and decorative pierced and engraved gilt-brass hands and signed Harrods Ltd, the mahogany case having a shaped glazed panel to the front, brass decoration to the edges and with a cast-brass floral cresting to the top, standing on shaped cast-brass feet, height 41cm. * Biography; Richard et Cie of Rue Bondy 32, Paris, were one of the most well-known makers and retailers of clocks with a retail outlet at Cannon Street, London. This trademark indicates the clock was made, or finished, by them as opposed to just being retailed. * Notes L.P. Japy and Co is possibly Louis Japy who, in circa 1890, became part of the Marti, Roux, Japy freres concern set-up earlier at rue Turrene in Paris; see lot 845.

Leroy & Fils, Paris, an ormolu and porcelain mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with the backplate stamped with the trademark of the movement maker Japy frères, along with the name of the retailer Leroy & Fils, Paris, 1212, the round pink porcelain dial has gold Roman numerals and is decorated to the centre with a winged putto above nautical items, with brass spade hands, the ormolu case having a decorative cast shaped base with the main body having scroll shaped side mouldings and surmounted by a cast cherub sitting on a shell within waves and holding the reigns of two sea creatures, height 32cm. * Biography; Japy Freres was founded by Frederic Japy of Beaucount, born 1749 who first made movements for the clock industry at his factory in 1777, becoming the largest and most commercially important clockmaking concern in France. The business continued after his death.
