A large and impressive polished marquetry mantel clock commemorating the round the world flight of the Graf Zeppelin LZ-127 in 1929. Of wavy ‘Napoleon’ shape, the dial in the form of a map of the northern hemisphere, the pierced chrome hands with Zeppelin tip (minute) and star (hour). Above the dial the head and shoulders of the Captain Dr. Eckner , in a wreath, on either side palms. And below the outline of LZ-127, at the base to the left are the hangers at Friedrichshafen. To the right a scene of pyramids with figures and camels. In the centres an escutcheon inscribed ‘Zur Erinnerung an die Weltfahrt 1929 ded Luftschiffes Graf Zeppelin unser Fuhrung von Dr. Eckner’. Single pedestal base with wooden feet. Size overall (max) 58cm high, 94cm width. 8 day clock movement with Westminster device (no key, movement needs attention). Externally VGC illustrated on Plate 6.
