A Late 19th / Early 20th Century French Brass "Four Glass" Mantel Clock, by P. Japys et Cie, No. 2072, the 3.5ins diameter cream enamel dial with Arabic numerals and floral swag ornament, to the eight day two train movement striking on a gong and with mercury compensating pendulum, contained in brass and bevelled glass case, on bracket feet, 12.5ins high The clock presents in condition commensurate with age and general usage. There is some slight discolouration to the gilding on the exterior but again this is patination of age. there is no obvious sign of previous damage or repair. All the glass is free from any obvious sign of cracking or chipping and likewise there is no obvious sign of previous repair to the dial. The dial is free from cracks and chips and the gilding to the bezel is in good order the black Roman baton numerals are clear and concise and have not been restored in any way. The mechanism appears complete and original however we cannot guarantee the originality of all components. The clock winds, runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. Both of the mercurial tubes are half full. The key is present. the gong strikes. Prospective bidders are advised to study all images carefully prior to bidding

A 19th Century French Gilt Metal Cased Mantel Clock, No.2163, the 3ins diameter dial with white and blue enamel cartouche with Roman numerals to the eight day movement striking on a bell, contained in drum pattern case with bead mounts, surmounted by scrolls and leaves, flanked with a seated cavalier on gilt metal mounted alabaster base of shaped outline and inset with oval porcelain plaque and on paw feet, 19ins overall x 15ins high, on ebonised plinth base and with glass dome (cracked)Externally the clock presents in condition commensurate with age and moderate usage. The glass dome has quite a severe crack in two places - a Y-shaped crack at the rear right hand side and the base itself also has some scuffing to the finish where the case has been on and off over the years. The clock itself - the gilding is mostly present, it is missing from the top of the clock and certain parts of the gentleman figure but in our opinion it is 80% original gilding is present. There is also gilding missing to the base and bottom of the clock. The marble plinth appears to be in reasonable condition showing no obvious signs of damage or previous repair. The dial presents in good condition with no obvious signs of cracks, chips or restoration and the enamel baton numerals are clear and concise. The mechanism appears to be complete but we cannot warrant the originality of all components. The clock winds, runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. The pendulum is present but there is no key. Prospective  buyers are advised to study all images closely prior to bidding.

There is some patination to the brass, which is dull, but there is no obvious sign of any damage or previous repair. The dial is in good condition, the gilding is intact, the front cover glass is intact and free from any obvious sign of cracks or damage. The pendulum is present and appears to be original. The mechanism is complete and the clock winds, runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. We cannot warrant the originality of all components. The rear cover is not present. Prospective bidders are advised to study all images carefully prior to bidding

Darin stehende Minerva, die römische Göttin der Weisheit und klugen Kriegsführung in selbstbewusster Pose, gekleidet in einen Brustpanzer über langem, von Goldblüten gemustertem Gewand sowie weißem Mantel und Helm mit Federbusch. Mit ihrer rechten Hand einen langen Speer tragend, mit den Fingerspitzen der linken Hand nach dem Medusenschild greifend. Polychrome Malerei mit Goldstaffage. Entw. Johann Joachim Kaendler, 1747. Rücks. aufsteigende Blütenzweige mit farbig staffierten, sog. Vincennes-Blüten. Hoher, verästelter Bronzestamm als Träger für das kartuschenartig gerahmte, runde Uhrengehäuse. Verglastes Emailzifferblatt mit schwarzen arabischen Zahlen. Speer passend erg.; Blüten teilw. unw. best.; Figuren-H. 37 cm. Gesamt-H. 48 cm x 35 cm.Die Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen gab der Manufaktur Vincennes-Sèvres in Paris den Auftrag, derartige Blütenzweige zu fertigen. Luxuriöse Arrangements aus wertvollen Porzellanfiguren in Verbindung mit feuervergoldeten Bronzemontierungen waren eine Spezialität der "Marchands merciers". Diese in Paris ansässigen Händler für Luxusgüter hatten die Privilegien, die importierten Waren zu "kombinieren und durch die Transformation zu materialübergreifenden Ensembles noch aufzuwerten". Diese Stücke fanden Aufnahme in höfischen Sammlungen und gelangten auch als Kabinettstücke in den Besitz reicher Finanziers, um bei Festveranstaltungen die Räume zu schmücken. Die Figur der Minerva schuf Kaendler ursprünglich für eine Cascade bzw. Wassergrotte mit dem Urteil des Paris.Vgl.
