Archibald Knox, a pewter mantel clock: having an eight-day duration movement with a platform cylinder escapement, the backplate stamped for Lenzkirch and numbered 581011, the round dial having a copper chapter ring with black Roman numerals and a blue and green enamel centre, with spade hands, the pewter case of stylised plant form with two blue and green enamel cabochons set to the lower part and stamped to the underside with the model number 0370, height 20.5cm. * Biography - Manx-born Archibald Knox, born 1864 died 1933, was the most well-known of the designers used by Liberty of London with this model 0370 being one of the most popular designs. They are often fitted with the German Lenzkirch movement as is this example. Knox was a man of great talent and a fine watercolourist. He designed the gravestone for the founder of the Liberty store, Arthur Lasenby Liberty.

Mougin, striking on a bell, the crimson porcelain face with reserves having Roman numerals in black and with a band reserve decorated with trailing flowers, and with a porcelain panel below depicting courting couple in elegant dress, flanked by tapering porcelain pillars with reserves with flowers and pink bows, standing in nicely formed paw feet, the upper portion with a wreath encompassing a bird's nest with a cluster of eggs, flanked by a bird to either side, the pediment being a pink porcelain urn with a reserve decorated with flowers and with gilt finished foot, lid and cone shaped finial. The clock movement marked A.D. Mougin, Deux Medailles, 2053 48. The clock being 15 3/8 high, and 19 3/4'' high including shaped gilded plinth and ebonised base for a dome.
