AN AMERICAN NOVELTY "BLINKING EYE" MANTEL CLOCK, c.1900, modelled as a negro banjo player, the spring driven movement with 3" paper dial having Roman numerals and inscribed Paris, the gilt bezel inscribed Pat. May 10 1859, the tole painted case raised on leaf moulded oblong base, 16" high. Provenance: Blinking or moving eyes were a popular feature of several different American clock designs. This example although unmarked may have been made by Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company, Connecticut and retailed in Paris
