The case of architectural design with pierced brass side grills, on bun feet, the silvered dial with Roman numeral chapter ring and blackened steel hands, with two winding squares, engraved Purvis, North Audley St, Grosr Sqr, the 8 day brass twin fusee movement, with anchor escapement, with bell strike, signed to back plate, 26cm highAlexander Purvis is recorded as working in North Audley Street, Grosvenor Square, London from circa 1820, and most probably for a decade or so before. He was still known to be there in 1845. Provenance: The clocks in the following lots were purchased from various retailers by the Late Sir Anthony Hilgrove Hammond KCB. There are signs that the striking will work as when the hour hand is wound, the clock strikes.
