Y A REGENCY ROSEWOOD AND GILT METAL MOUNTED SIDE CABINETCIRCA 181587cm high, 91cm wide, 23.5cm deepCondition Report: This is stamped to the top of the right door by the retailer 'WILKINSON LUDGATE HILL 5580'.There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.There are losses, observations and restorations including: broken wood dowels inset to the underside of the marble top, with corresponding holes to the top of the cabinet; the back and base are of panelled construction and is ebonised; traces of glue to the top of one ring turned foot; some staining to the hinge area of one door; some cracks; staining shadows around the gilt metal mounts to the frieze; some vacant holes to the interior of the doors; there is small evidence of worm.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition. An important WWII SOE Jolly Roger sailing standard,comprised of blue and white cotton fields separated by a red cross, each field embroidered with symbols, from top left clockwise a yellow flower and a leafy branch, a caduceus, a constellation of dots over a wavey line, a black skull and cross bones, the red cross centred with a white sailing boat, 91 x 71cm From the SOE vessel 'Catina' part of the Force 133 flotilla called 'the Levant Fishing Patrol', captained by Dr Darrell Wilkinson, which carried out operations in the Adriatic during WWII. Their operations formed part of the basis for the 1961 film 'The Guns of Navarone'.Accompanied by photographs and copies of correspondence relating to Dr Wilkinson, together with an extensive history presented by his descendants, and a USB with digitised copies of the images and letters.Provenance: Marlows Military Auctioneers, Military Antiques Sale, 30th of July 2020, Lot 209. Ode 16, autograph manuscript, title, introduction and 4pp., foxed, browned and creased, original paper covers, title and last f. margins crudely repaired with tape, browned, sm. 4to, [c. 1750].⁂ Wilkinson in his introduction to the Rev. Mr Attwood gives a brief autobiography of his misfortunes. "Bred to the law" and practising as an attorney in London, Wilkinson was sued on behalf of a relation and had to retire to Cornwall and work as a teacher, leaving his wife in London. In search of another more lucrative job and rejoined by his wife, Wilkinson returned to London and addressed this variation based on Horace to Attwood in the hope of some charity, naming himself as "A Stranger in Distress".

London proofed octagonal barrel, the top flat inscribed with the makers legend 'DEANE ADAMS & DEAN 30 KING WILLIAM ST. LONDON BRIDGE', borderline and foliate engraved frame, also marked 'ADAMS PATENT NO 10,915R', five shot cylinder with decorated leading edge, one piece chequered walnut grips terminating with a domed butt-cap with trap, retaining much original finish, faded and stained in areas, replacement foresight and hammer safety spring, contained in a correct green baize lined and partitioned mahogany case with a Wilkinson & Son trade label in the lid, accessories include copper bodied flask by Hawksley, a correct 54 bore double cavity mould stamped with the Adams registered design emblem, ebony handled nipple key, cleaning rod, pewter oil bottle and cap tin, the case with solid partitions and good lining.
