One typed letter, four postcards, and one Christmas card signed, c. 1951/76, the typed letter on letterhead dated 21st July 1975, a brief note to [Michael] De-la-Noy refusing an offer to be interviewed for Good Housekeeping to celebrate his birthday the following year, ‘It would give offence to all those to whom are refused interviews and my doctor has also ordered me to cut down on such engagements’, a few manuscript corrections, signed ‘John Betjeman’ in an unsteady hand, one page, 4to, the postcards addressed to Gerald Finzi, Michael De la Noy and two typed to Geoffrey Grigson, one to Grigson, ‘I would like to give you a not bad Lawson riverscene in thanks for the pleasure received from ‘Britain Observed’ and Gerald Wilkinson. You have enriched the autumn of my life’, the Christmas card with a reproduction of a painting by Memling, variously signed ‘John Betjeman’, ‘J. Betjeman’, and ‘John B’ (6)
A German Third Reich Police Officer`s Sword, the 79cm single edge fullered steel blade stamped Eickhorn with squirrel logo, the stirrup hilt later painted gilt, with wire bound black plastic grip and black metal scabbard; a Society Ceremonial Sword by Wilkinson Sword, London, the double edge steel blade etched with roses, the brass cruciform hilt with wire bound black plastic grip and steel scabbard with leather frog. Two British WWI period bayonets, by Wilkinson, 1907, 2nd pattern, with 17in. fullered blades, wooden grips, steel scabbards and canvas frogs; together with a 19th Century French bayonet, with 20 1/2in. blade, engraved to back `Mrce d`Armes de Chat-Aout 1876`, part wooden grip and steel scabbard. A George VI Royal Artillery Officer`s Dress sword, by Wilkinson, London, the 34in. fullered blade etched with name, crests, crowns and scrolls, numbered `67485` to back of blade, the hilt with wire bound grip and chequer cut steel back, open scrolling steel knuckle guard, and steel scabbard.
A George V Infantry Officer`s sword, 1895 pattern, with 32 1/2in. etched blade, decorated with Royal Cyper amongst scrolls, makers name etched `Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London`, the hilt with wire bound shagreen grip with chequered steel back, pierced and engraved guard with Royal Cypher, leather knot, complete with leather covered scabbard and frog.
