Joseph Wilkinson, Wigton.(1710-1790) A GEORGE III 30 HOUR BRASS DIAL, OAK LONG CASED CLOCK, having a flat hood with square door between turned columns, long trunk door on plain base with bracket feet, the brass dial with cast spandrels, date aperture, Roman hours and Arabic minutes, 186cm, (73in) high, sold with weight and pendulum.

Barrels re-finished.

A good post 1902 officer’s presentation sword of the Royal Horse Guards, straight fullered blade 37” by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, numbered 44349 (1913) on backstrap, etched with crowned GVR cypher, crowned RHG monogram with 8 battle honour scrolls, owner’s monogram C.G.V and “C.G.Vaughan from the Commandant and Officers of the Permanent Staff, Cavalry School, Saugor 1913” regulation plated hilt with applied brass design incorporating crowned RHG monogram, studs and twirls, buff leather liner, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard with brass ornamental chape and fluted bands with hanging rings. Very Good Condition Plate 28. Note: C. G. Vaughan was appointed Hon Lieutenant and Riding Master to the Royal Horse Guards, 22nd October 1913. Good biographical details of service sold with the lot, also a photograph of Riding Master Vaughan from the Household Brigade Magazine and a copy from Wilkinson Sword Register of the sword details.
A good Elizabeth II Royal Air Force officer’s sword, straight fullered blade 32½” by Wilkinson Sword Ltd, no 92852 on backstrap, etched with crowned Royal Arms and crown and eagle badge within foliate blank scroll panels, heavy gilt half basket hilt incorporating crowned ERII cypher and crown over eagle badge, wirebound sharkskin grip, eagle’s head pommel and backstrap, gilt and sky blue dress knot, in its gilt mounted leather scabbard. A Victorian field officer’s broadsword of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, plated, double edged claymore blade 33” by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, numbered 28419 (1887) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher, regimental badge, “Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders” and owner’s crest and motto “Stand Sure” within thistle scrolled panels, plated honeysuckle pattern hilt with buff leather backed scarlet cloth and blue silk liner with tassels, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard. A late Victorian officer’s 1821 pattern sword of The 17th Lancers, faintly curved blade 34½” by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, numbered 38144 (1900) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher, wreath, regimental badge “17 Duke of Cambridge’s Own Lancers” and owner’s name R W V Bruce, within angular scrolled panels, plated scroll pattern bowl guard, wirebound diced composition grips, in its plated scabbard. Good Condition (blade repolished over pitting) Plate 28. Note: Robert William Vesey Bruce was commissioned in 1900, served throughout the Boer War, was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Queen’s medal with 4 clasps. Promoted Captain in 1908, he served in WWI, became Major in 1916 and retired on half pay at the end of the war.
A good pair of officer’s 14 bore percussion holster pistols by Wilkinson, London, 14½” overall, round twist barrels 9” with flattened panels at breeches and single fixed rearsights, scroll engraved locks with safety bolts, varnished walnut fullstocks with horn fore end caps and chequered butts, silver barrel wedge plates and small silver escutcheon with family crest of stag’s head within oval belt and motto “Val Y Gallo”, scroll engraved steel mounts including domed butt caps with hinged traps, swivel ramrods. Very Good Working Order and Condition, retaining nearly all original finish, in their green baize lined fitted mahogany case with brass carrying handle in the lid, bearing the trade label of James Wilkinson & Son, No 27 Pall Mall, London, and containing a good 3 way copper flask by Sykes, 15 bore steel pincer mould, nipple key with pricker, horn handled screwdriver, brass powder measure, some balls in chamoix bag, and pewter oil bottle, the whole in Good Clean Condition (top panel of lid slightly shrunk, some external marks) Plate 33
An unusual single barrelled 14 bore flintlock sporting gun by J Bulleid, Bristol, c 1830, 47” overall, nicely browned 3 stage barrel 31” with octagonal breech, made up of alternate strips of twist and damascus pattern, the breech with 2 gold lines, gold poincon of “J. Bulleid, late Wilkinson”, gold inlaid “Bristol” in gothic script, and with platinum touch hole, flat stepped lock with pigeon breasted cock, V shaped rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, the plate engraved with scrollwork and “J. Bulleid, late Wilkinson”, walnut halfstock with chequered wrist and cheekpiece to butt, silver fore end cap and barrel wedge plates, engraved steel mounts including unusual squared trigger guard with extra scroll grip, brass tipped ebony ramrod with concealed worm.
