Y  A GEORGE IV/WILLIAM IV LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S LEVEE SCIMITAR OR 'MAMELUKE' AND SCABBARD OF THE 15TH (KING'S) HUSSARS CIRCA 1830, BY MOORE LATE BICKNELL, OLD BOND ST. LONDON The 30 1/2in. curved blade inscribed KINGS HUSSARS beneath a crown and with maker's inscription, ivory grip, bullion knot and with a gilt-metal mounted shagreen scabbard 92cm in length overallCf. John Wilkinson-Latham, British cut and Thrust Weapons (1971), p. 18, pl. 16 for a similar levee scimitar and a discussion on this type of sword, also from the 15th Hussars.Note: The King's Hussars were raised in 1759 by George Augustus Elliot as a regiment of Light Dragoons and number 15th in 1760. After 1805 Light Dragoon regiments were designated Hussars. The regiment gave sterling service through two centuries, notably the Peninsular Campaign and has one VC, issued to Charles Ernest Garforth in the First World War. Of notoriety, the regiment supported the local militia in the Manchester District at the Peterloo Massacre in 1819. In 1922 they were amalgamated with the 19th Hussars to form the 15th/19th Hussars, surviving in this form until 1992 and are now part of the Light Dragoons. ENESCU GEORGE: (1881-1955) Romanian composer, violinist and conductor. A good A.L.S., Georges Enescu, four pages, 8vo, Rue de Bruxelles (Paris), 17th January 1906, to Madame Wilkinson, in French. Enescu writes 'Comme vous avez toujours daigne vous interesser a mes faits et gestes artistiques je me fais un devoir de vous annoncer.......qu'on joue chez Colonne ma nouvelle symphonie que j'ai terminee cette annee-ci en Roumanie et ce la dimanche prochain je donne aussi deux recitals de violin le 2 et le 8 fevrier a la salle Evard, dont voici le programme qui peut-etre vous interessa a lire, afin que vous voyez que je ne reste pas inactif' (Translation: 'As you have always deigned to take an interest in my artistic acts and gestures, I make it my duty to announce to you…..that Colonne is playing my new symphony which I finished this year in Romania and this next Sunday I am also giving two violin recitals on the 2nd and the 8th February at the Evard Hall, of which here is the programme which you may be interested in reading, so that you can see that I am not remaining inactive'), further expressing his regret that she will not be able to attend, and hoping that she is now in better health, before concluding 'En attendant la joie de refaire un de ces soirs un peu de musique chez vous, daigne toujours croire, chere madame, a mon devouement tres respectueux' (Translation: 'While waiting for the joy of making a little music again one of these evenings at your house, always deign to believe, dear Madame, in my very respectful devotion'). Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Enescu. VG Enescu's Symphony No. 1 (Op.13) was completed in 1905 and received its premiere on 21st January 1906 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris as the fourteenth concert of the 1905-06 series of the Concerts Colonne, conducted by Edouard Colonne.
Taxidermy Northern Pike (Esox lucius) – is a very large taxidermy cased Pike in bow fronted black case set in naturalistic setting. Label top left: “caught by D.S. Wilkinson, Oulton Broad, 1st September 1959, 30lbs 6oz”. no taxidermist label by possibly by “Something fishy”. Case dimensions: 121cm long, 23cm deep and 48cm tall.

A canteen of silver plate / EPNS cutlery, mostly by Henry Wilkinson & Co of Sheffield plus some from T H & S, contained in a very impressive oak fitted cabinet. The cabinet has double opening doors to front, with brass hinges and lock (fully operational and key present) as well as brass hardware including campaign style inset handles to sides. Inside are a set of five drawers, again with campaign style inset handles and fitted blue baize interiors. Contains approximately 17 large forks, 17 smaller forks, 17 large knives, 14 small knives, 17 fish forks, 17 fish knives, fish serving knife and fork, 10 large spoons and 9 dessert spoons. Case measures approximately 52cm x 41cm x 37cm high.
