* WILKINSON SWORD CO. A WEBLEY .455 'WG ARMY MODEL' SIX-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER, serial no. 11782, 6in. barrel signed on the sighting flat 'WILKINSON SWORD CO. PALL MALL. LONDON' and engraved with the initials 'W.M.W.' on the underside, frame marked 'WEBLEY PATENTS' and with 'W&S' winged bullet trademark, bird's head butt with chequered hard rubber grips (one chipped), lanyard ring, and reblued throughout.
Photograph of Patrick Bronte in old age, in an oval gilt frame, 4.75" x 3.75", On the reverse is the following which was presumably the original Museum designation "Rev P Bronte; Various relics including an oval photograph framed and glazed, a small china blue and white plate often used by him and a sword stick. The photograph was owned by Martha Brown and was bought from the Ratcliffes from whom came also the plate. The swordstick is accompanied by a framed certificate from C Stansfield who sold it to Mr Dixon. It was given by Mr Bronte to John Hudson the elder of Haworth who repaired Mr Bronte`s boots for many years and was bought by Stansfield John Hudson the Younger his son", Included in the lot is "Emily Jane Bronte and the authorship of Wuthering Heights" by Alice Law publ by the Old Parsonage Press. PROVENANCE; Acquired from the Collection of the late Mr Robinson Brown (late of Haworth) Sold by Sotheby Wilkinson and Hodge of Wellington Street, Strand in their auction of The Museum of Bronte Relics on 3rd July 1898 lot 105. The catalogue a copy of which is included in this lot states the following: "A large proportion of these relics was given by members of the Bronte family at various times to William Brown (father of Mr Robinson Brown), Sexton at Haworth Church during 20 years of the Rev P Bronte`s incumbency, and to his niece Martha Brown, who for many years lived in the Bronte family. Those relics which were not inherited from these relatives by Mr Robinson Brown, he acquired from Mr A Gledhill, Keithley; Miss Nussey; Mr W Scruton, Bradford and others; a few were purchased by him in the locality." The collection had for some years been displayed at the Temperance tea rooms in Haworth.

Original Bizarre / Early Whisper Variant - A large Clarice Cliff shouldered ovoid vase circa 1929 hand decorated with a deep band of abstract panels between dark blue, black, green and orange banding, large Bizarre mark, height 25cm. Condition - No chips, cracks or restoration, light crazing and oxidisation to the dark blue. [Original Bizarre 1928-1929. This is an example of the transitional period of Original Bizarre showing striking similarities to the 1928-9 patterns Winsome and Whisper - repeating panels of a geometric design. The old Wilkinson vase was a very early one, referred to on shape sheets as a number ‘4’ (12 inch), ’4.1/2’ (10 inch) or ‘5’ (8 inch). PT].
Mr Fish - A Clarice Cliff Hors D’oeuvres dish circa 1935 of rectangular form hand decorated with two stylised fish beside seaweed all within green and black line banded borders, Royal Staffordshire A.J. Wilkinson mark only, measures 21.5cm by 10.5cm. Condition - No chips, cracks or restoration, few minor paint scuffs.
Forest Glen - A Clarice Cliff advertising plaque circa 1935 hand decorated with a small cottage to a landscape within black and blue banding, hand painted Forest Glen by Clarice Cliff Wilkinson England, Height 6cm. Condition - No chips, cracks or restoration. [The usual Delecia style sky could not be created on such a small piece but uniquely it has a black ‘frame’ never added on actual examples, which gives it great impact. The backstamp is not in Clarice Cliff’s handwriting but that of the day-waged paintress who produced the piece. LG]
