A late Vic R Naval officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered blade, 31½”, by Wilkinson, no 33588 (for 1896) on backstrap, etched on one side with flat topped crowned fouled anchor, and on the other with the R Arms with supporters and motto, all in roped oak wreath panels, regulation brass semi basket guard with crowned fouled anchor, prominent lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, in its brass mounted brown leather (replaced) scabbard, with unusual belt loops, Wilkinson logo on the locket, and spring catch into hilt. Basically GC (few rust patches to blade, hilt a little mis-shapen) £150-250
A Geo VI officer’s broadsword of The Highland Light Infantry, DE blade 32½” with central fuller, by Wilkinson, no 67292 (for 1938), etched on one side with crown, regimental badge and title scrolls and on the other with crown and GVIR cypher, all in thistle panels, undress hilt with plated crossbar and slightly tapering screw on pommel, wirbound fishskin grip, in its brown leather FS scabbard with plated throat mount and long chape with ball tip. Basically GC (some wear and light pitting to blade) £150-200
A Victorian 1845 pattern Infantry officer’s sword, blade 32½” by Henry Wilkinson, number 23503, etched with the usual crowned “VR” and panels of foliage, also a crest of a griffin’s head with anchor over “L.G. from I.S.H.” and in scrolls “39 Regiment, Primus in Indis”, with regulation brass hilt, in its very worn leather FS scabbard with a leather bayonet frog. QGC (worn overall). Included is a letter from the Royal Armouries with photocopy of the entry for sword No 23503 in the Wilkinson ledger showing that it was completed in February 1880, with no mention of any special engraving, the purchaser’s name indecipherable. £60-100
A 6 shot 60 bore self cocking bar hammer percussion pepperbox revolver, by Wilkinson, 8" overall, fluted barrels 3½” with Birmingham proofs; with scroll engraved German silver frame and butt strap, signed “WILKINSON & SON, LONDON”, and numbered “164”; the bag shaped butt having plain dark walnut grips. Good Working Order and Condition (the nipples and hammer rest ring slighted knocked); in its original blue velvet lined fitted mahogany case with brass lid escutcheon, containing Sykes copper powder flask, steel pincer mould (worn), turnscrew, pewter oil bottle, small cap tin (worn), bristle brush, and key to case. Good Condition Plate 10 £800-1200.
A pair of 34 bore double barrelled over and under percussion boxlock side hammer pistols, by Wilkinson, 7" overall, barrels 2½” with swivel ramrods and London proofs, the top flats signed “WILKINSON, LONDON”; scroll engraved frames with safety bolt, and “elephant trunk” hammers; finely chequered walnut grips with rectangular silver escutcheons and steel butt caps with trap. GWO & C (slight bruising to one side of one grip); in their original green baize lined brass bound fitted oak case, with brass lid escutcheon, having trade label of James Wilkinson & Son, 27 Pall Mall, London, containing a short loading/cleaning rod, French copper flask embossed with leaves and tendrils, with central panels depicting a goat beneath a tree, nipple key (AF), and key to the case.
