A mixed group of early twentieth century art deco period floral decorated wares, c. 1910-30. Comprising of: a jug, a covered sugar box, a covered mug, a vase, a plate, a serving bowl, and a covered bowl. Makers include Alfred Meakin, A J Wilkinson, Wade and Grindley. Ireland.- Present (The) State of Ireland: Together with some Remarques upon the Antient State thereof. Likewise a Description of the Chief Towns, first edition, title within double-rule border, engraved folding map, woodcut initials and head-pieces, 2 advertisement ff., lacking final 2 blank ff., closely shaved, touching title border, a few headlines and affecting some text on L6, maps with a 2 short tears at folds and chip to foot, occasional damp-staining to fore-margin, bookplate to pastedown, 19th century calf, gilt, gilt arms to upper cover, some scuffing to lower cover, [Wing P3267], 8vo, by M. D. for Chr. Wilkinson at the Black-Boy in Fleet-Street, and T. Burrell at the Golden-Ball under St. Dunstans Church, 1673.⁂ A scarce work that includes a few references to America and is principally concerned with arguing English dominion over Ireland. Provenance: David Constable (1795-1857, gilt arms to upper cover); Kinnaird (armorial bookplate).
Feminism.- [Drake (Judith)] An Essay in Defence of the Female Sex. In which are inserted the Characters of a Pedant, a Squire, a Beau, a Vertuoso, a Poetaster, a City-Critick, &c...by a Lady, first edition, engraved frontispiece of 'The Compleat Beau', title within double-rule border, light offsetting onto title, contemporary panelled calf, splitting to joints, spine ends chipped, 8vo, for A. Roper and E. Wilkinson at the Black Boy, and R. Clavel at the Peacock, in Fleetstreet, 1696.⁂ The first English feminist tract, also attributed to Mary Astell but now generally accepted to be by Judith Drake whose husband wrote the commendatory verses at the beginning. The treatise is a defence against male accusations of ignorance, vanity, enviousness etc. of women and also addresses the faults of men, particularly satirizing some of hercontemporaries.

Nock, Gun Maker To His Majesty, No. 4518, Circa 1709-95Converted from flintlock, with twist leaf-sighted barrels, signed along the rib between the two top barrels, each barrel cut with seven spiral grooves, case-hardened breech-block with gold line and engraved with a starburst on top, border engraved tang decorated with foliage and a Britannia shield, and with a starburst in the sighting groove, signed serial numbered flat bevelled lock with stepped tail, highly figured half-stock with cheek-piece and chequered grip, border engraved blued steel mounts comprising butt-plate (rust patinated) decorated with hanging game on the blued heel tang, trigger-guard (loss of finish on the tang) with a recumbent stag in a landscape on the bow, trigger-plate with large pineapple finial, rear ramrod-pipe en suite, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, original brass-mounted ramrod, and some original finish: in original lined and fitted oak case (one partition loose) with accessories including rare brass charger, gang mould for fourteen balls, three wooden ball holders, brass-mounted powder-flask with bevelled elongated body, and leather flint wallet, the interior of the lid with illustrated trade label (minor damage and old stains) for circa 1789-1804, the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks 49.5 cm. barrels Footnotes:ProvenancePiers Mostyn, Bt. A British 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword, George V, by Henry Wilkinson and numbered 53525, complete with brown leather sword knot and scabbard; together with a 19th century sword stick, fullered blade 25 in., blued and gilt at the forte, malacca cane with silver plated repousse top mounts. A British 1888 pattern bayonet, Mk II hilt, by Wilkinson and date marked for 1900, steel mounted leather scabbard; together with a transitional rapier, slender blade marked 'Francisco' to the deep fuller, steel hilt double shell guard, diamond-section finger rings and knuckle bow, oviod pommel cut with a diamond detail. A Victorian Silver Tea-Caddy, by Henry Wilkinson and Co., Sheffield, 1838, in the George III style, bombé and on four scroll-cast feet, chased with a foliage and rocaille cartouche with an engraved coat-of-arms, the cover with baluster finial, 13.5cm high, 9oz 9dwt . Fully marked on one side and on cover. There is wear to the marks with some only partly visible. There is otherwise overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points and engraving.
